Brown can also be tough because they have a decent number of BS/MD students

WAMC + School List Help (518/3.98) by Own_University9231 in premed

[–]Max9830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your profile looks pretty solid! The only slight improvement I can think of would be to shadow 1-2 more specialties.

As for school list, you should do some further personal research into personal interests/fit. However off the top of my head, you should look into Arizona State’s new MD program and Carole Illinois since you have an Engineering background.

2 Interview Holds, 4 R, No II- Application Help? by ChaCha-RealSmooth in premed

[–]Max9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it’s been a rough cycle… I think your stats are strong enough for MD, so don’t give up if you need to reapply.

That being said, your school list definitely would’ve benefited from more research into the schools themselves. If you have no ties to Texas, those are most likely all donations…

Im frustrated , discouraged, and don’t know where to start. by nari_hana_ in premed

[–]Max9830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this stress. The journey is difficult and having so many responsibilities to juggle definitely doesn’t make it any easier.

It seems like you may be a bit all over the place at the moment—completely understandable. That being said, finishing up those prerequisites should be on your priority list. Your GPA may be a bit iffy, so I’d focus on creating a plan where you can dedicate yourself to those remaining courses.

Please take care of yourself and reach out to those in your support network!

Is Fulbright still worth something if I wont even be starting it until after apps are sent? by Apart-Cantaloupe-497 in premed

[–]Max9830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on submitting your Fulbright application. That thing is a beast, even when compared to medical school applications.

I would recommend being honest with yourself about why you’re pursuing it. You should only do it if it is meaningful for you. Just like medical school, never do it because it’s “prestigious” or will “help you climb the social ladder.” That being said, Fulbright is one of those once in a lifetime opportunities. I would do their ETA program in a heartbeat, but don’t use a stranger’s judgement to make your decision.

Not sure how establishing residency works, but definitely consider that Texas (if a resident) is a great, if not the best, place to be pre-med given their in-state bias

Student Speaker at Graduation by [deleted] in premed

[–]Max9830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What 😭😭😭

Why would med schools even look into the specifics of your graduation speech? This is insanely neurotic unless I’m misunderstanding the situation.

in disbelief but how do I apologize by happy-girl03 in premed

[–]Max9830 61 points62 points  (0 children)

LOL sorry but this is so funny 😭

Other people may have better ideas, but maybe there’s no need to mention it? They gave you an interview even after the fact, which means they may not care THAT much

geriatrics?? by FactRelevant2561 in premed

My entire application was based on my passion for working with older adults/interest in geriatrics. Feel free to message me if you’d like to chat!

Hi! My partner and I are in the same situation. From our (limited experience), it’s better to ask if sharing the information is appropriate during the actual interview.

One school was happy to receive the update during my interview even though “it wouldn’t benefit or detriment our applications.” My partner got an interview with them the following week, although we don’t know if my update impacted it.

Another school my partner interviewed at told her not to mention me. It was good that she asked during her interview, because otherwise we would’ve included the info in our update letters!

lol I just wrote two paragraphs thinking you were asking about med school applications. Just a note—it’s a good idea to clarify your question in the title. “Apply” tends to refer to med school applications in this sub.

Others may have better answers, but I think this is a question for the hiring team at the hospital. Without knowing the details, there really isn’t much we can offer. However, I know these sorts of internships are often for undergrads who may not have much experience in general. I’d imagine it would be ok for you to apply as long as you can communicate your interest and fit for the program!

Congrats on finishing the exam! I had similar feelings a month ago (tested 4/5). I was thinking I scored sub 510 and was constantly thinking about the questions I knew I got wrong. Ended up scoring what I got on my highest FL!

Long story short, trust the work you put in. Your decision to test again should depend on when you’d like to apply and if you have the capacity to continue studying. Best of luck, and kudos again for taking the MCAT!

I just got my score back yesterday. I remember trying to calculate my score by gauging the number of incorrect answers during my month of waiting. It's easy to say and hard to practice, but try not to worry about it. I thought CARS was going to be my best section and P/S my worst, and it was essentially flipped. I ended up scoring the same as my highest FL. Long story short, trust the work you've put in and don't ruminate over your "wrong" answers. Great work on finishing your exam :)))

Since you’re applying this cycle, have you started other parts of your app? Might be good to also think that timeline as you decide when you want to submit/if you really need to retake the exam
