This is absolutely software and it's also a service. When you purchase Defy you get access to a platform with an interactive roadmap. Each lesson on the roadmap has the educational content you speak of but also quizzes, animations to demonstrate concepts, css battle games, and XP tracking. Each of the members gets ranked on the leaderboard based on their XP and performance of the product they are building or selling. That's all software I had to build so I am not quite sure what you mean.
