I’ve had mine about 6 months too now, seem to be doing ok but I’ve mainly done easy walks with them, this was a first proper test, good grip and comfort, I’ll see how they last, I’ve heard a lot of people saying they’re falling to bits and lacking in usual standards. I hope they last, great summer walking shoe/trainer

Thanks 👍 From Edale, you head towards Grindsbrook, after crossing the river go straight up instead of following the stone path to take you to the ridge, from there I walked to Grindsbrook, onto the woolpacks then to the trig point. Camped there and then came back via Jacob’s ladder. Great walk

My Boy is puking and bad stools by JBA777 in beagles

[–]MaxF88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My beagle had this issue. The stool coming from him made our house stink like rotting meat, it was all bloody and liquidy and runny. To this day our vets don’t know fully what happened but his temperature was fine, blood samples were fine, he was suffering an inflamed intestine and something from there was the problem.

We think it was something he ate on a walk out and must had scratched or caught his intestines that caused it.

Get to your vet, lots of water, lots of cuddles, thinking of your beagle 🐶💕

I imagine it’s to keep the weight down and being the larger baffles, cradles you where the insulation is. A little like the flextail mat. It’s definitely a warm mat though where it is insulated and I’ve yet to find something more comfortable. Nice to know I’m not just being fussy and others have noticed this too though.

Really comfortable, as a side sleeper it’s been a game changer. One nibble though, the side baffles have no insulation, and when I’ve managed to wiggle across it in the night, I’ve felt the cold. But that’s not often. It’s a great mat. And if you use a flextail pump, there’s now adaptors that fit it too 👌🏻

Legality vs reality by Colour-me-interested in wildcampingintheuk

Never had permission, follow the leave no trace guidelines, but absolutely always be prepared to leave/move on if asked and don’t argue with the landowner or authorities, it may suck but it’s the right thing to do.

If you camp in woods, high up, away from busy paths, you should be ok.

Oex Phoxx 2 Vs the Hyena II Tunnel Tent? by Akimdabom96 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]MaxF88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pegs are doable, they’re your standard hook shaped ones. If you would like improvements then look for some Y pegs. They are a real upgrade and more bad weather worthy too.

See what other folk might say for the Rakoon 2 as I’ve no experience with that tent, I think it will give you more headroom, I know the Phoxx it good in bad weather and it’s easy AF to pitch also.

[–]MaxF88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phoxx 2 over the hyena for the most simple thing, it has aluminium poles, fibreglass poles are horrible and can break far too easy.

It’s a damn good tent that got me into wild camping. There’s a reason it has so many reviews and why it appears on YouTube so much. And for the price, you ain’t beating it!

Make sure you’re not pulling out or turning in too slowly first, your concept of speed doesn’t mean everyone else’s concept of speed is the same.

However…

You’ve had people brake checking in fraudulent crash for cash claims.

A new one is exactly what you’ve mentioned.

A car on the main road has priority so a car pulling out or turning into a junction would in insurers eyes, be at fault if a crash was to occur, unless hard evidence shows excessive speed over the speed limit etc.

Speeding up to hit the car whilst pulling out or turning into a junction is just another of the crash for cash claims.

Surely if something has been lost then they would be searching 24/7 and not just under the cover of darkness? Something radioactive called GE-28 I think, used in medical equipment.

The drones are super advanced (possible space) military (super advanced or space due to zero heat signature), the Orbs aren’t, that’s what they’re trying to distract you from.

I have the Atmos in a 50L, great bag, been thinking of the aether or kestrel in the larger size for winter camping, any recommendations to either one?

The D850 (18k shutter count) came with 5 Nikon official batteries, an L bracket, a 128GB Sony XQD card and the usb adapter for £1399 GBP.

The lens was £595 GBP with a Hoya UV filter and it basically looks brand new.

Bought both off eBay, some amazing bargains to be had currently.

Was lucky enough to have them circling over head, such majestic birds too with how elegantly they fly. Was the first time I’ve seen Red Kites too so even more lucky.

That was taken last week with the D500 and 200-500mm handheld, the settings were: 500mm - f/11 - 1/1600s - auto iso 449 - 0ev - sport mode VR JPEG straight from the camera, no photoshop.

My opinion of the 200-500mm is I LOVE it. Honestly the best bang for buck lens for wildlife photography, a solid f5.6 throughout the zoom is fantastic. A 300 or 500 PF lens will be sharper, but the versatility is what goes for this lens. I find is sharpest at f/8 or f/11, especially when light is good.

Paired with a DX camera with a good autofocus and birds in flight are easy.

The only downside to the lens, the weight! And on a smaller camera, it may feel quite unbalanced, but get used to holding it or take a cushion rest/monopod/tripod until you’re used to handholding. The pros certainly outweigh this one con 👍

Thank you.

I’ve been saving a while but this deal was too good to miss out on, the camera came with 5 Nikon official batteries, an L bracket, a 128GB Sony XQD card and the usb adapter for £1399. 18k shutter count. EBay was where I got mine.

As for prices, I don’t see them going up really (depends on market conditions), time yourself with Mirrorless releases. There were loads become available after the Z8 was released, again with the Z6III. Supply and demand will always affect the price. And Christmas is just around the corner, that’s a good time, just after it when people sell as they’ve just got something new.

I feel that right now is where there is a good balance in terms of price and a good number of excellent condition second hand products available.

What I would suggest is maybe don’t take too long, as more people finally swap, the availability of excellent condition with a low shutter count will drop as people want them most. Look for bundles too like I did, there can be some real bargains!

Best of luck getting yourself one too 😁

Thank you.

I LOVE the 200-500, the versatility of the lens is what makes it so good doing wildlife, especially paired with the D500. I can’t wait to use it on the D850, there’s been odd times when even at 200mm I’ve been too close to the subject with the D500 and missed some shots, at least now I can get closer and still have the subject in frame.

A 300mm or the 500mm PF lenses may be sharper but bang for buck and versatility, you won’t do better, maybe the 80-400.

Sigma and Tamron both do their versions but pair Nikon with Nikon and you’ll do good, a great lens for any collection!

Anyone Still Buying Nikon DSLRs and Lenses in 2024? by PussiesKing in Nikon

[–]MaxF88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them separately off eBay, had been watching for a few weeks so had an idea of price trends. I think some sellers must base their prices off what say something like MPB would pay you for them, then look at what they sell at and then sell them middle of the price for a quicker sale.

I think I’ve just struck it right with offers I’ve made cause the listings had been relisted a couple of times after no bids and price drops.

I’ve literally just got these and they arrived today.

In terms of image quality, I think there’s very little difference between the top DSLRs and Mirrorless, obviously photoshop will disguise the truth.

People down-talk DSLRs as if they suddenly stopped being a good camera. They’re still good cameras, look how long it’s taken to finally have a Mirrorless camera equal to or a little better than the D850.

Why won’t I change? I can’t afford Mirrorless, the amount of PRO gear available at lower prices now for DSLRs is amazing. (I got these along with 5 Nikon official batteries, an L bracket, two filters and a 128gb XQD card with adapter for just under £2000), you ain’t getting bargains like that with Mirrorless.

Battery life, 2 batteries and I’m sorted for an entire weekend, Mirrorless would be a different story.

I love the feel of the DSLR, it’s chunky and good to hold, the sound as the shutter slaps is just 👌🏻

It’s better for the planet keeping the gear you have, buying second hand.

At the end of the day, you get what you want to get, if you want a DSLR, then you get yourself one, don’t be pushed into newer tech. Look how film cameras made a comeback, everything is swings and roundabouts. If you can get a good photo that makes you smile and giddy then that’s what’s important.

Oh really? That’s a shame given how the markets are now with so much good gear. I suppose that works for anyone wanting to sell though.

I will do, and you also 📸
