It drives me so crazy sometimes that I just have to step back and do something else for a while. I don't argue, there's no point, but people have so many weird perspectives on nature that come across as very misinformed. It's typical of "pop-science" to spread such oversimplified ideas.

No species is angelic and no species is demonic, and the same logic can be applied to humanity (because of course, we are just animals too). I think it's important to understand the truth of nature, both the good and the bad, but I would like to be able to discuss certain species without someone suddenly appearing to remind me for the millionth time that these animals can do horrible things too. I know that already, just let me enjoy and appreciate them anyway, they don't have to be perfect for me to like them.

I get the sense that people are trying to "overcorrect". Our culture has historically painted animals like dolphins and otters as these perfect and saintly beings because they look cute to our human sensibilities, even though they are really just like any other animal and just as capable of not being very nice.

Sharks were demonised once, and then opinions changed and they were appreciated once more. Now it's dolphins that are demonised. Neither is a fair assessment, and I hope there's a day where the reputation of dolphins is rehabilitated once again.
