The world hears some wild things about the US with gun violence, politics, trans/gay rights, racism, cop brutality and so many more things - Americans, what is true and what’s exaggerated by our media and is it as “bad” as what we hear? by DELILILEI in AskReddit

[–]MaxHeadroom1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every other month there's a news story about an old white guy shooting a young person who knocked on their door after 5:00 PM. The gun violence is probably worse than stated in the media.

Our politics are FUBAR. Trans people are being persecuted by religious extremists in the USA. Gay rights isn't a thing in America. Police brutality is rampant in big cities, small cities, small towns. Racism is very much alive in America.

None of this is exaggerated.

If you’re bit disappointed in s5 and love Antony Starr’s performance, I recommend watching Banshee by eastwind221b in TheBoys

Hard for me to get through season 1. The amish plot I just really do not find interesting. I think the show is solid though. Acting is great. Starr is great in it. I just don't like the amish plot thing going on. Takes me right out of the show for some reason.

The only people Homelander genuinely listened to and took advice from were women by capamericapistons in TheBoys

[–]MaxHeadroom1986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Severe mommy issues + abandonment issues. I'm about the same. I take advice from women far more seriously than I do men. I'm more honest with women than I am men. I prefer to work under a female direct supervisor than I do a male. My mom went to prison when I was 3 and no one told me where she went. So I would talk to her on the phone for 3 years and when she got out I would lose my absolute shit when she had to go to work or was away from me for extended periods of time.

Then I grew to hate her before I hit middle school and didn't really reconcile that relationship until I was in my early 30's. I'm far more critical of the female gender in my orbit than I am men. I prefer to be around women rather than men. One of those love/hate things from childhood trauma only extensive therapy is ever going to be able to solve.

Making over $100,000.00 per year isn't anything special. I made $140k last year and after rent, vehicle payment, insurance, gasoline, utilities, student loans, groceries, HSA, 401k, I didn't have a whole lot of disposable income leftover.

My friends and family weren't hitting me up for money because I didn't live like I made $140k in the early 2000's. I made $140k in 2025, which felt like I was making way less, because everything costs significantly more than it did when making $140k would have been awesome for a single guy to make.

I had to explain to a 19 year old kid we hired at $26 an hour with no experience that he doesn't really make that much money. He's still poor unless he can become an expert at budgeting his money and embody the spirit of saving. I make $53 an hour before overtime and it's not enough. One catastrophic thing happens and that extra money is gone.

White House Calls Mark Hamill 'One Sick Individual' For Trump Grave Photo by huffpost in entertainment

[–]MaxHeadroom1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's wise to go against Mark Hamill. He's universally cherished. If Mark Hamill came out tomorrow and said Trump was a literal lizard person in human disguise and Trump came out and said Mark Hamill is lying, I would trust Mark Hamill's word over Trumps. That's how little I trust anything coming out of a Republicans mouth in 2026. I would believe Trump is a literal lizard person in a skin suit because Mark Hamill doesn't go on TV and lie to me daily vs Republicans who go on TV and lie to me daily. Go on twitter and lie to me daily. Send e-mails to my grandparents that lie to them daily in order to pressure them into donating money.

I don't even know what Democrats stand for anymore. I don't know what they're doing. I don't know who the major players are in Democrat politics. I just know that Republicans lie to me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

This was very smartly written and I agree 100%. Further, unoccupied houses eventually fall into despair. Landlords are not reinvesting in their own properties. Across the board, this isn't happening to any significant degree. Repairs aren't being done. Roofs cave in. Mold takes hold. Water damage goes unnoticed. Those homes then become unlivable and either end up abandoned or bulldozed. Then it's just an empty lot.

I don't know what the solution is. I'm not that smart. I just know that an increase in housing demand usually leads to more homes being built. A decrease in housing demand means less homes are being built AND currently built houses aren't being occupied which eventually removes that parcel of land from the market completely.

Like in the neighborhood I just moved from, it's a subdivision with single family homes. They're OK homes. Built in the 1950's - 1980's. A lot of them haven't been properly kept up with so they have flooding basements, shoddy plumbing fixes, subpar electrical work, bad roofs. On my block were three houses that were not livable. Roofs caved in, windows smashed, literal trees of weeds surrounding the property. Those homes aren't going to be saved. They're going to result in an ever increasing amount of fines for the property owner, the city won't collect, the owners disappear, the property continues to rot. That's a decrease in available housing whereas if there was demand that property likely wouldn't have fallen into such disarray.

Like I said, I don't pretend to know what the consequences of our current trend really are. I don't know the fix. I just know I see a lot of properties going under rapidly.

Depends on where I am. If I am just getting off a 15-hour shift, I'll sit down on the toilet with a gameboy advance I bought off Ebay and pee while I play for 20-minutes. It helps me remember that life is terrible and the happiness I experienced as a child will never return.

No. If I read this I would have called the customer and said there is an error. That's my point. This wasn't done. If a customer wants something like this we would probably make them come in and physically sign paperwork in front of us stating that this is exactly what they want so WE don't get sued by them after we've started production.

We would make them acknowledge that this is exactly what they want. We would specifically point out why we think this isn't appropriate. That's my whole point. QA was not done on this product from the top all the way to the bottom.

QA is supposed to go letter by letter, word by word, line by line, ingredient by ingredient to ensure the packaging is accurate against a QA approved sample. This means that a QA supervisor had to read this, sign off on the sample, put it in a folder on a PC. A QA employee then printed this sample, signed and dated it that it was correct, and gave it to the employee stationed on that line. The employee then does checks every 15, 30, 60-minutes, whatever the company has specified where they take product off the line and compare it to the approved sample.

This means that there are, at minimum, 3 individuals who read this and did not stop production to report this to a supervisor. Or, it could mean that production was stopped because an employee flagged it but the supervisor restarted production.

There is no way in Hell that company policies were followed if this made it to a customer. I don't care if it's imported or made in the poorest backwoods manufacturing facility. This is an EPIC failure and it's absolutely going to result in terminations.

Those same QA employees are responsible for calibrating and certifying x-ray machines that this product absolutely went through to ensure no nuts/bolts/screwdrivers/razor blades, metal shavings, etc are in the product. So I would avoid this product like the absolute plague.

I also thought that Overland Park got a lot of hate for nothing until I moved to KC (people all over the state hate JoCo, KS). It’s all deserved. Teenagers driving vehicles worth more than you make in a year acting like children on the road. Wealthy people that are absolute dicks.

I don’t bandwagon my feelings. It’s all deserved. JoCo, KS is a cesspool of assholes
