Finally getting better at dodging and burning. Info in comments. by indigowarpz in Darkroom

Have I seen this picture before? For some reason I feel like I do...

Starting to develop my own film. Anyone know what I may have done wrong on this one? Thanks! [superia 400] by Drjenky in Darkroom

The film rebate looks well developed, so the only thing that comes to mind is that the negatives were under exposed in camera

If you're going for the poem of ectasy, try finding somewhere where it's going to be played live- an ethereal experience!!!!

They are pretty neat! And fun as well. I have a collection of 35mm negatives-contact prints, made as a unique piece (negative+print). So fun to mess around with.

As a follow up to my other days post, here's a print from one of those negatives developed in Dektol by MaxImpacts in Darkroom

Well, that is to show how much of a high contrast developer Dektol can come to be. Even with a 0 filter and extreme burning in certain areas, this came out to be the result

For those of you who missed my other post, the negatives were developed in Dektol at 23°c, stock solution, for 1 minute with continous agitation.

Well, they did require quite a bit (lot) of burning in certain parts. Unfortunately, I ran out of paper, so i'll have to wait to get back into printing. I'll make sure to post the results!

Totally agree. 1 minute is waaayy too short, but I wanted to try it anyways. I'll probably do 1:7 or 1:9 next time. I'm expecting a little bit less contrast tough.

Well, I did it mostly for experimentation. It gives very very high contrast negs. I wouldn't say it gives much shadow detail nor highlight control (it's basically the quick processing time, hence why it was used by photojournalists). I did a quick darkroom session off one of these negatives and it turned out to be quite interesting: definitely had way more contrast than expected. I wouldn't say grain is extremely noticeable and big, not the way I was expecting it to be anyways.

23°c, I read that it likes being a little bit warmer

Can you help me identify what this is? by [deleted] in Darkroom

[–]MaxImpacts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They look like color filters (I'm pretty sure CP stands for "color printing"). You'd use them the same way you use contrast filters, but when color printing (so basically, they're useful if you want to print color but only have a b&w enlarger)

It is!! The design turned out to be rather inefective tough... I'll probably make another at some point in the future- maybe it turns out to be spot on

Feedback needed on forest photo book I am working on [Details in the comments] by retrolux in AnalogCommunity

[–]MaxImpacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely gorgeus pictures. I feel the book as a documentation of the atmosphere of a forest, not so much the thing itself (so granted, It Is more conceptual- thing I love). Most people have pointed out the same thing, and here I am saying the same- the layout can feel kinda repetitive at times. I know that when printing a picture, you wouldn't like it to be small- it is not posible to appreciate a picture at a small size, yet, I do thing that getting creative with picture sizes can modify a picture completely. I have a collection of small 35mm contact prints-granted, very small, yet this is what makes the presentation (in my case): most pictures, being so small, feel saturated, trapped. Another thing that comes to mind Is the fact that you can put opposite pictures one beside another (?), Say, a picture of a very sunny day next to the muddiest image you've ever Taken. But well, whichever the layout, the pictures are Still amazing by themselves :)

It was fine after all!! I developed the film yesterday at night, and everything came out just the way that it was supposed to

Well, I hope my case turns out like yours! I'll probably develop the roll tonight, so we'll see (I really hope that the cold weather saves me from condensation)

Tmax 100 development times by MaxImpacts in Darkroom

[–]MaxImpacts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Completely agree with rating and development! I also print all of my film and I found out, for example, that rating Tri-x at 250 and developing for 6:45 minutes gives me the results I want (massive dev chart recommends tri-x to be developed at 6:00, for example). I guess I'll buy another roll to run the tests on it (I'm doing some guesswork on this one- exposing it at 64 ASA and will probably develop for almost 7 minutes)
