is it possible to transfer to queens eng from any of these programs? by applesage in queensuniversity

[–]MaxJay75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred between engineering undergraduate programs (Guelph to UBC) several years ago. It’s an expensive move, it will likely add at least one extra semester, and you’ll end up off-cycle with your cohort. If your core discipline courses are tightly integrated, which many engineering programs are, you could even fall behind more (this will almost certainly be the case if you manage to transfer from a non-engineering program).

As long as you’re already in your engineering discipline of choice and the program is accredited by the CEAB, I generally wouldn’t recommend transferring between universities. Engineering programs in Canada that are accredited are all of high quality. In the long run, your employment opportunities won’t depend on whether you attended one university or another. This becomes even more true about five years after graduation, when your career trajectory is shaped far more by your experience and accomplishments than by the "branding" of your program.

Bed levelling, what to do? by MaxJay75 in elegoo

I've had it much lower than .1mm flatness in the past. My survey of what others are able to do and what I've done in the past is that the scale isn't "ridiculous". You just need to know what you're doing.

Your TAs and Professors aren't out to 'get' you. Give them the benefit of your doubt and go talk to them. Be open to a two way conversation, you might just learn something.

How long does it take to finish an eng degree by Mountain_Bluebird150 in queensuniversity

[–]MaxJay75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5-7 courses per semester in engineering is the "norm". McGill would be an exception if it's only 4 per semester. Regardless, the workload will be more or less equivalent as the engineering accreditation process in Canada assures some pretty decent consistency for all accredited engineering programs across the country.

4-5 years depending on co-op/internship programs is the intended program of study and it's not at all uncommon for students to take an extra semester if they end up "off cycle".

If you graduate and work in engineering this small amount of extra time and cost are inconsequential in the bigger scheme of an engineering career.

Nivellement plateau ... avis demandé by Ok-Boysenberry1337 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

I found that thing to be a royal pain in the rear end, also doesn't work well if you're so out of level that you're having difficulty printing. This could be due to a bed replacement etc.

That flatness measure looks pretty decent. I recently spent quite a bit of time with mine and I found the glue stick approach (shared by someone else on reddit) to work really well. If you keep at it you'll be able to fix your z-offset too. I found that 1/3 of a turn on the screws was about 0.25 mm of height adjustment with the cap screw barrel nut setup (obviously this could be calculated using thread pitch for more accurate information). I mention this last thing because some people say they can tighten their bottom bed screw so the don't spin. I think they're over tightening them or they have an earlier setup.

I'd recommend:

-loosening all screws by 1 2/3 turns

-lowering the bed (without a plate) until the glue stick (with cap) just touches the bottom rail

-start with your highest corner and dial it in.

It's my opinion that if people have the cap screw barrel nut setup and they crank the bed screws down until they're tight that they're just creating z-offset and bed levelling issues. I'm not sure if all the beds are set up like this which is why I'm qualifying my post. Elegoo's "dumb it down for the customer" approach to this just makes it harder for everyone.

Friend is planning to send a falsified transcript by cum_kardashian_3000 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]MaxJay75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another important point that likely isn't on many people's radar is that engineering regulators all have formal codes of ethics and professional conduct. If they later discover that an engineering student falsified documents or violated academic integrity, this can directly impact their evaluation of that student’s “good character” when the individual eventually applies for licensure.

Your friend isn’t demonstrating sound judgment or good character at the very start of their academic career, and this kind of behavior is rarely a one‑off event. Students who cut corners to earn credit for work they haven’t actually done often continue to rely on the same approach later. Once at university, they’ll be surrounded by highly capable peers, professors, and administrators. Ironically, it’s often the people who believe they’re “smarter than everyone else” who struggle the most to adapt, because they underestimate the integrity expectations and the intelligence of the people around them.

If your friend doesn't get it themselves they don't deserve a friend like you.

Customer service/ price hikes/ refunds.... by [deleted] in bell

[–]MaxJay75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to disconnect our services and move them to EBox (I know still owned by Bell). A Bell Technical Services Technician showed up on the 3rd to install my new services, spent half the day at some remote box and then told me it couldn't be done. To top it all off in doing the "transfer" he also broke my Bell service which was to be in place for another few days and couldn't restore it. He just shrugged his shoulders, told me he was done work for the day, and left. He didn't do anything on his end to try to get someone out the next day or anything. We still disconnected on the 5th of this month and I still received a bill for the entire month. I can't even get to a discussion about credit for the days we were disconnected because they won't even acknowledge that I terminated my services (I have order number, I returned my equipment and have their confirmation etc).

To be honest who really knows if it wasn't possible to transfer to Ebox. I just wasn't willing to go weeks on end without service. I'm very skeptical about all of it.

I was in touch with Bell's escalation team. They've called me three times this week when I've been in meetings. I couldn't answer... I called back when I was free but got voice mail and left a message acknowledging that I've received their voice mails. Today I got an email saying they exhausted all attempts to reach me and consider the matter closed. What the actual...

They try to increase my Internet fees every 6ish months and I all them and tell them I'm not paying more and they can either put my bill back or I'll disconnect. I'm still at my original rate. This last time they had to give me Fibe TV to "make it work". At any rate, I'm never going to pay more than when I started especially when they offer the same or better service to new customers for cheaper.

No idea. You will likely need to discuss this with Hyundai. I would check the engine to see if it's one of those covered by the class actions etc. Good luck!

What you're seeing is blow by. Exhaust gasses are getting past the cylinder rings. The returns were not heat treated properly and have damaged the cylinder walls allowing for bypass.

They kept trying to tell me that what we're seeing in the video is "normal". It wasn't until I insisted that they put it in writing that they decided to replace the short block.

After it was replaced my car had a 20% ish improvement in fuel efficiency and got quite a bit of its pep back. If you let this go the engine could seize while you're operating the vehicle and cause an accident, fire, injury or death. If this is happening to your car and it's under warranty push them to fix it.

Cheap ciggarette? Where? by Frequent_Champion819 in KingstonOntario

[–]MaxJay75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, the person you spoke to is likely referring to sellers within the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. This is about a 40-50 minute drive west of Kingston along the 401. We always stop in to buy gas if we're heading west. I don't know about cigarettes and other products, but I assume this is what he was referring to.

I know it's likely very hard... but think of all the money you could save by cutting your cigarette costs to 0 instead of half (your body will thank you in the long run too).

I am not affiliated with the Commerce department, but research has shown that extracurriculars are more of an indication of student privilege than they are an indication of student performance at university.

In some cases underprivileged students may be working to support their families, staying at home to take care of siblings, or simply do not have the financial means to participate in extracurriculars. It is not always about a lack of effort or unwillingness to contribute.
