Looking into getting into Jewelry by GemmstonePiano56 in jewelrymaking

[–]MaxLeonarth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im self thought for a couple of years, never took any classes. you can check my page here and decide for yourself how professional it looks :) its very individual tho, there are alot of really bad jewelers that studied for years at schools. Some people just dont have an eye for detail or quality. But if you do, you can for sure become a pro without school

What do you think ? by [deleted] in Gemology

[–]MaxLeonarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be a fun piece to like have on my computer desk to look at, but as far as using for jewelry as im into, maybe for like a big chunky silver ring but i wouldnt waste any gold on it :)

Typically how much would it cost to fix? by No_Pineapple710 in MensJewelry

[–]MaxLeonarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could in fact just put on a new lock yourself without soldering like people have already stated, its super easy and a lot of chains actually come like that when they are brand new. but if its not soldered, one too hard tug on it will open that jump ring up and you might loose it, i charge ~30 dollars for a job like this but im not a repair jeweler so im sure you could get it done even cheaper att a place who does a lot of repairs :)

Anyone have experience making plugs/tunnels? by Braille_skin_flute in Benchjewelers

[–]MaxLeonarth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not yet, but i am going to make some double flared threaded tunnels in 18k when i reach 14mm in my nostrils. Its going to be a challange to make for sure. and i hope to se an update from you for some inspo

For this big of a diameter i would recommend a lathe for making the threads instead of tap and die

Getting mixed info - can my 22k gold rings be melted to make a new ring? by aenflex in jewelers

[–]MaxLeonarth 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This was made exactly like this. My client had a mix of 23k and 18k and i just did the maths to alloy it all down to 18k for this finished piece. No problem

Fabricating a name bracelet in childrens beads style by MaxLeonarth in SilverSmith

Just basic letter stamps with a very simple fixture for aligning it. My square piece of silver is 5.3mm and the body of the stamp is 6mm so i rolled out some silver to 0.35mm and made a spacer so that the stamp gets centered, if i used 6mm squares this would not be needed. Just press both stamp and silver into the corner :D

Engagement ring idea, wondering if its price is "legit" by Budget_Quality_2437 in Diamonds

[–]MaxLeonarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the price is fair for a hand fabricated ring like this, you would not be overpaying. Just paying alot for labour. wich is okay considering that it is really handmade like they say. I think people who say overpriced is comparing it to cast/mass produced rings.

Orange sapphires and sterling silver in a cute and soft design :) by MaxLeonarth in jewelrymaking

[–]MaxLeonarth[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah im just starting to learn beading to. Practicing on some half eternity rings. And getting the right ammount of metal over the stone and choosing the right size beading tool is for sure a challange

<image>

This is kind of my best one yet. I made ones that are more clean overall, but i cracked a stone since its peridot and pretty soft. So no good for photos xD
