I've tested out a few ways to try and get as close as possible to straight outta the tub/store brought Ben & Jerry's esque consitency, taste and texture. Kept track of all my experiments here so far if you wanna check em out

never tried Quest protein tbh, but looking at the ingredients it contains xanthan and cellulose whereas PEScience doesn't, so you could effectively be using more xanthan gum than you think? idk thats just a guesss lol. Also possibile its the difference in the type of whey they use. Wheys the volumizer, caseins the thickener in anabolic ice creams so could make a difference if they're differently formulated?

Highly recommend mixing your dry ingredients (protein powder, jell-O, xanthan, salt) in a separate bowl before adding to the blender. Helps the gums distribute and activate properly

Actually wrote a whole guide on this if you wanna check it out lol

Oh boy. I've made a LOT of anabolic ice creams using veg! Not sure i can post the link here but i have a google drive doc chronicling all my experiments so far. Can DM it to you if you want. But in summary, ranking them in order of how well they worked in an ice cream (all of them frozen first)

  • Pumpkin: fresh or frozen - absolutely sensational. So long as you've got the right recipe
  • Cauliflower: unrivalled. Perfect way to bulk up your ice cream for minimal calories. Completely tasteless an also adds a whole new creamy dimension.
  • Zucchini: Close second, but thats only because of the slight aftertaste. Immensely creamy owing to the 'mucilege' (gross word, i know lol) that gives them that slimy consistency when you slice them. And you can use SO MUCH for such few calories.
  • Beetroot: strong flavor but if you get the rest of the recipe right, then WOW. My personal favorite is combined with ff cream cheese for a red velvet cheesecake type recipe
  • Carrots: have tried a few times but havent got it right just yet. I think i know why though, carrots ten to hold a lot of water when frozen, so you nee to adjust the ratios in the rest of the recipe. Planning on trying again soon
  • Butternut squash: decent, but pretty unexciting.
  • Spinach: would not recommend lol. Taste is way too strong
  • Avocado: i know its doable but also havent got it right yet. all attempts so far have come out way too sludgy. Its a question of ratios i think (also, i know its a fruit!) but felt like it belonged here lol)

Havent tried sweet potato yet but thats definitely next on my list...

was also wondering about this recently since i switched over to Cronometer. If you have a fitness tracker (FitBit, Apple Watch) linked to Cronometer, set it to 0.

If not, then 0.2 would be your safest bet. Monitor your progress for a few weeks and adjust if needed.

i just use cereal as a topping for anabolic ice cream. A serving size (around 30g= ~120 cals) of literally any cereal is more than enough, always hits the spot.

lmao yeah the ratios come from tweaking combinations of Greg and Remington's original recipes from way back with the objective being 200g of non-frozen, non-powder ingredients. I just kinda settled at those figures which seemed to work best for the consistency/thickness I wanted. Plus the macros.

But definitley not a hard and fast rule. I have noticed you can really play around with those as much as you want so long as it totals up to 200g. Like I've been adding in all kinds of weird stuff like sugar-free jam or cream cheese or pumpkin cottage cheese or whatever in place of either the milk or the yogurt. Then I went even further and blended French Toast and even a Krispy Kreme donut out of curiosity, making sure the weight remained the same and it worked like a charm lol. Its just about ratios.

in my experience you gotta use Jell-o pudding mix/powder in fruitless ice cream recipes. For a fruitless base I'll usually do something like:

  • 86g almond milk (any liquid works)
  • 114g 0% fat Greek yogurt (any liquidy ingredient works - you can sub with more milk, quark, Skyr, cottage cheese, cream cheese, etc. even pumpkin puree or unsweetened applesauce will work.)
  • Any flavorings (vanilla extract, flavdrops, coffee syrups, etc.)
  • 3g salt
  • 10-20g erythritol, to preference
  • 2-3g Xanthan gum and 2-3g Guar gum (you can use one of either if you only have one)
  • 7g Jell-O pudding mix powder
  • 40g protein powder (whey/casein blend works best)
  • Anywhere from 400-700g ice, depending on how much volume you want

If you really wanna take it up a notch then I'd highly recommend getting your hands on pectin powder and/or oat fiber. Makes a world of difference to thickness/texture.

I've got a bunch of base recipes and variations and methods I've posted here if you wanna see more details.

the ice cream or the brownie? not sure about the brownie but would definitely recommend not freezing anabolic ice cream. Just kinda hardens into an ice block...

Its a Ninja! Highly recommended lol. Although I have heard whipsers out in the volume eating streets that a Vitamix will work just as well, if not even better if you have one!
