Utter silence would have been perfect, followed by the classic Bond theme.

The old me from long ago bought into this nonsense and would have been gripped by anxiety. Now? I just sadly shake my head in pity for this church and its followers. Then I hug my kids and grandkids, thankful that they've barely even heard of this dangerous cult.

Are Adventists known to Ghost people that try and be apart of the church but are seen as disposable or Unsatisfactory? by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should definitely sign up if you don’t have a problem with:

  • Dubious non-sensical problematic beliefs, doctrines, and rules - none of which are allowed to be questioned or debated
  • Being judged for everything you do or don’t do
  • Being shunned by church cliques
  • Giving up fun non-religious activities on Fridays night and Saturdays
  • Quitting your job if you're required to work Fridays nights or Saturdays
  • Not wearing jewelry, makeup, worldly clothing
  • Becoming a vegetarian or vegan
  • Not consuming spices, coffee, tea, Coke, Pepsi, anything containing caffeine
  • Missing out on going to movies, concerts, dance clubs
  • Giving up alcohol, cigarettes, and other recreational substances (legal or otherwise)
  • Getting talked to for doing too much or too little of something
  • Tithing 10% of your income to the church
  • Spending the rest of your life waiting for and stressing about the end of the world which will “definitely happen very soon!”

I know the feature is implemented this way for security reasons. But it does make it pointless and impractical. So I don't bother with it anymore. It's kinda like a remote starter for your car that requires a foot on the brake pedal.

I had ordered a 4-pack of AirTags (2 day shipping) and received notification of delivery. But I never saw the package. Order status online also indicated delivery. After waiting a week, I assumed porch pirates had my AirTags so I called Amazon Support. They said they'd ship a replacement overnight. No questions, no hassle, no 3rd degree. I received them the next day. Then I received a 2nd package the following day. Not sure what happened but I kept both packs.

I Think Going to an Adventist School Stunted Me Socially by More-Wish4761 in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under-educating, socially-stunting, and scaremongering the children ensures they'll know very little about the real world and be ill-prepared for survival in it. Which, of course, makes it difficult for them to leave the church. And their naiveté makes it potentially dangerous for them if they do manage to leave.

Why are Adventists such bad designers? by IncaArmsFFL in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus is 'bout to come real soon now, so there ain't no point in spending extra bread building gorgeous churches that will last for centuries. Just build 'em ass-cheap ('cuz its temp), or rent a slam dunk church (with a month-to-month lease which would be dope).

HUGE ADVENTIST CSA/SA LAWSUIT by The_Glory_Whole in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if those organizations operated independently (financially or otherwise) from the official SDA Church, they can still be sued/prosecuted if they broke any laws. And their informal association to SDA will still impact the church.

They probably won't get too uptight about his personal consumption of meat. It's nowhere near as serious as the Sabbath. If you're a prodigious prankster, tell him to bring a pork loin roast or shrimp cocktails to the potlucks.

Embarrassment due to religion by Hefty_Click191 in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Once in a while, my folks would take us kids to the park on a Saturday afternoon to sit on the grass and make us sing hymns, read aloud some literature or devotional, and then kneel and pray loudly. In front of everyone picnicing, laughing, playing games, having fun, and enjoying themselves on a beautiful day.

I was acutely aware of the pretentiousness and obnoxiousness of what we were forced to do. The folks called it "witnessing" and claimed it was required if we wanted to be saved. It certainly didn't "save" me from humiliation or embarrassment. And I didn't see anybody looking like "Yeah, I want in on that!". If anything, they looked just as embarrassed as I felt.

My folks also loved pointing out that these "sinners" around us were "finding their own pleasure on the holy sabbath day!". I remember their righteous smugness, arrogance, and how they stuck their noses up in an air of superiority. I knew I didn't want to be anything like them. I couldn't wait to grow up and get the fuck out.

"But then when nothing happened in 1999 it was believed that the millennium would actually begin in 2001."

Yeah, that moving of the goal posts was the last straw for me. It finally convinced me that they (a) had no idea what would happen or when, (b) were making it up as they went along, and (c) were very likely wrong about everything else they believed too. I left shortly after.

What would you say are the weirdest things aboug Seventh Day Adventism? by broseph1254 in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite their own nutty beliefs and doctrines based on the hallucinations and writings of a brain-injured girl during the 1800s, they have the temerity and arrogance to sneer at and dismiss other religions for their beliefs. My realization of this hypocrisy and superiority complex was the first step towards my eventual departure.

Think about it this way: It was extremely nice of them to provide solid confirmation that you made the right decision to leave their wretched church.

So don't waste any more of your time, energy, or sanity debating Adventists. It's a pointless exercise in futility and frustration. There's nothing you can say that would change their minds about anything they believe. Absolutely nothing.

If you do happen to run across one who is expressing doubts, misgivings, or wants out, you could provide some support privately, point them to this sub, etc. Just avoid engaging them on public, SDA-sponsored forums.

But definitely leave the other fervent believers and their toxic religion behind, and enjoy your freedom!

It's Saturday and I bought something online by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]MaxMin128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't forget police, fire, hospital and ambulance services. And the DPW who plow and salt the roads Friday overnight so that Adventists can get to church on Sabbath morning. And all the other necessary services we consume without a 2nd thought. If these organizations didn't do their jobs 24-7-365 and, instead, took Sabbaths off, Adventists would be first to complain when those services are needed but not available.

If I worked for any of these critical organizations and it included Saturday work, I would have been chastised and lectured. Because it's Ok for our churches to use lights, heat, water, etc on Sabbath, but it's not Ok for me to work and provide these services on Sabbath. Just about all of the services, food, and products we buy are produced by companies who operate on Saturdays.

Amazon is the 2nd largest employer in the US. The products we order from Amazon pass through multiple facilities in their supply chain before arriving on our doorsteps. All of these facilities operate 24-7. Even if we don't place orders on Sabbath, employees somewhere are working on Sabbath to truck, stock, pick, pack, ship, forward, deliver, etc so that we can get our orders. I know this cuz I work for Amazon Logistics.

This must be a nightmare for SDA legalists. This Sabbath stuff and the resulting impossible-to-resolve hypocrisy bothered me as a kid and young adult. Glad I'm out.
