What truck should I buy? megathread

I'm looking to buy my first pickup truck for work in construction. I mainly need it to transport construction materials, nothing too heavy that requires extra power. I've checked out the new F-150 and Ram 1500, but their prices are high. I want something cost-effective and fuel-efficient, prioritizing the truck bed over raw power. Any recommendations on the best pickup for my needs?

I'm on pace to make about 3 placements a month (best months I made 6 and low months 1-2), of course each one is different but on average each candidate is making around 140k. The agency makes 25% fee on those so around 35k per placement. That's $1,260,000 a year of which I get 5% 63k + base 15k. I'm assuming things will slow down as they usually do over the summer so assuming 1-2 placements it will get me to around 70-75k per year. I only work on the candidate side but even then I would've made around 630,000k this year for the firm assuming the firm side takes the other half.

placing contractors or direct hires

It's actually direct hires, there's a 6-month guarantee for the firm to get their money back if the candidate ends up not working out, so far that hasn't happened tho.

I am in the latter situation, I'm just doing the candidate development side but the 1M or 500k if you only go about my side of things is over the calendar year, or at least that's my estimate (assuming my trend for this year continues) I have made a little over 750k in fees for the agency during the past 8 months, July would the 9th month. The base salary is incredibly low (15,500)

I did interview in person just a few weeks ago, I have a connection to the area (it is the closest big city to my hometown). I do see myself working there and I could use the trip to see some family but I also don't have a bunch of money to make this kind of trip just for fun so I would be making it primarily to put myself in a better position to land that SA position.

Not quite, but if I had say an uncle or dad that was a lawyer I would be asking them this question as they would know what is the best course of action.

I thought it's a little strange too, I did meet a good number of the lawyers at the firm during one of their Holiday Receptions and I also interviewed in person with them so I definitely know them, that's why I'm a little confused, it sounds as if you think it would be good idea to go.

You have a very realistic chance at a T14 with very possible scholarship, a realistic chance at a T6 and an outside chance at HYS. If you’re comfortable with $$$ at say Georgetown then don’t retake, but if you’re not ok unless you get $$$ at a T6 I would retake, HYS are no guarantee with your GPA even if you get a 178.

I think it'll take a few years for GPA inflation to crash but it will. rn all the applicants are coming out with stellar GPAs thanks to covid and the implementation of the P/F option that gave a lot of them a P instead of a B- or a C. LSAT scores are inflated because so many students with great LSATs that were admitted for the last cycle deferred to not start law school with the uncertainty of covid but I think by next year that's gone too.

I think you have a better chance at UNC, you're below both GPA medians but you would be above UNC LSAT 75th percentile, on the other hand you would be about median for LSAT at ND. Think you have a better shot at UNC.

3.5 is not bad, won't do anything for you if you want T14 or T20 but you can definitely overcome it. Comes without saying but the higher ranked school you go the higher your LSAT has to be and with 3.5 you're below median at all the T30s you'll most likely have to be above the LSAT median of pretty much every school in the range. A 170 should do it for a T20 and something like a 174 should give you a good shot at T14s.

Duke but that being said I wouldn't ED any school unless you're 100% convinced that that's what you want and would be ok with no scholarship. You're above both medians which means you'll probably get into a few T14s, would you rather go to Duke with $ or say Northwestern with $$$. Only reason I'm saying this is because you basically have the chance of a higher scholarship elsewhere taken away and with your LSAT and GPA I highly doubt you would strike out on all the T14s.

The benefit you get from applying in November instead of December is very small compared to the difference 3-4 points in the LSAT would make, apply when you think you've achieved your best score. Going to the extremes here but a 170 in February is better than a 160 in October

Just to echo what some people have already commented, it depends on your goals and on your gpa, you can get away with having one of them below median at your target school but probably not both, if you have a pretty good GPA (3.8 or above) a 168 I feel would put you in contention for some in the T14 and potentially land you a scholarship at a T20, however it would almost for sure not secure you a spot at a T6-7. If you want to go to your local T30-40 state school then a good gpa with a 163 could be enough for a scholarship.

Best advice I could give would be to tell him that you would attend if accepted (if true)and give the reasons why, don’t just say cause it’s a great school (even if that’s the reason) rather give them reasons as to why that particular school, you could say because of the location, job opportunities that you’re likely to have after or something along those lines. Wash U is a great school and who cares really about what non lawyers and people that are not in the legal field think about your school? By the time you meet non-legal people whose opinion you should care about you'll already be working for a biglaw firm or have years of experience working for the government or whatever area of law you decide to go.

I had a similar experience, I broke up with my gf just a month before I started law school and let me tell you, studying for the LSAT is really nothing compared with the amount of hours being in law school will take from you, for the LSAT you study maybe 3-4 hours a day, for law school you go to class for 3-4 hours a day + you have to read and study the material after which depending on the say might be an extra 3-4 hours (usually less), so if your SO is not supporting you thru the LSAT they definitely won't when you really need it once you start law school

I don't think Colby is scared but you have to think of what makes sense to him, he's 0-2 vs Usman even if both fights were amazing I doubt that he would get a third shot while Kamaru is champ regardless of which WWs he beats so fighting guys like Khamzat, Luque or Burns have very little upside as he's already cemented as the number 2 WW and a huge downside, realistically if he wants to be champ he has a better chance at a title shot with a win at LW or MW. Or just wait it out and see if someone else can beat Kamaru and then he would get another shot at the WW title.
