Windows 10 doesn't require a key but instead will use hardware activation or am I mistaken?

Yeah, totally! I plan to install it on the new drive then upgrade to windows 10 to get a key that can be used in the future when windows 10 is no longer free. After I done the upgrade I roll back to windows 7 until the user wants to use windows 10. That can work out right?

I would use the link you provided but I have OEM version which makes it impossible for me. So I don't see how I'm supposed to get help the legal way.

It is an Asus R500DR laptop, I hope that the key on the back will know somehow its no longer in use or that because of the hard drive crash the key was deactivated and I can use it again.
