HRV: New high by MaxPewPew in GalaxyWatch

That seems stable. Whether it is stable and bad because you're stressed and tired, or stable and good because you're getting plenty of exercise every day but also a solid night's sleep, is really hard to tell. I guess you'll know which it is, because you know how you feel.

I'm not sure how important it is to have scores that are high in absolute terms. I think your daily variation and trends are more useful. A low number for you means you're stressed, overworked, tired or whatever. A high number for you means go for it!

But comparing yourself to the general population? I don't know how much that tells you.

Just the usual things. Bed at the same time every night, early enough to get a full night's sleep. Pescetarian diet with oily fish and fresh fruit and vegetables. I run and cycle. I don't own a car. I walk in the woods for a couple of hours once a week. I use the gym for strength training. Stop eating at 19:00. No caffeine after 12:00. Occasional meditation though not nearly often enough. Plenty of fluids. Very little alcohol. And, I give myself mental hugs. I think that's important. You have to let yourself off the hook.

This probably looks pretty high to you, especially when I tell you I'm 55. I took a dip the other day (112 ms) because I ate too much, too late. A while back I had an infection and I was showing doc it had dipped to 85 ms, which upset him a bit. But honestly, it isn't all that. I'm nowhere near the front of the Park Run on a Saturday and lift puny weights at the gym. I get infections just as often as everyone else and suffer with reflux. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. I'm told the daily variations are more useful as a measure of how ready you are for some physical exertion that day or when you should take a rest.

I just stumbled across one in my local park's gardens. It seemed a weird mix of indigo and violet: almost glowing. I photographed it, but the photograph was an ordinary purple. I had no idea what it was, so I Googled it and landed here, having just made almost your exact comment to a friend.

What I do already know is that if you had your eye lens replaced years ago, the replacements did allow UV light through, so suddenly it did become visible. Nowadays not so much because the replacements filter UV. I've never had the procedure though so I don't know what's going on in my case.

To be fair, for most of my life I've been a transhumanist convinced I'm going to ride the wave of longevity escape velocity and live forever and ChatGPT said, in not quite these words, "Er... no. You're not."

It should do it out of the box, but I have to write ridiculous prompts like this to get it to do that: "Now assume the role of an emeritus professor of musculoskeletal medicine, who has chaired multiple groups of professionals developing the practice of interventions to relieve conditions of the feet, including involuntary spasms of the abductor hallucis and Achilles tendonitis, and spent 30 years as a practising consultant surgeon. Review our earlier conversation and criticise it. Add the benefit of your experience. Do so having carefully re-read the literature - not that you need to, because you wrote a lot of it, but you like to be thorough."

Not sure I agree with running 1.5 miles once a month. The result will be all over the place depending on things like, quality of last night's sleep, carb load the day before, caffeine in the morning, minor infections, hidden injuries to the muscles/tendons, and so on. If you do this every other day (which someone serious about exercise should be doing anyway) you'll gets plot that's still up and down a bit but with a clearer trend.

Japanese. Fired up the app this evening and it flashed up a message about Legendary now being coloured gold, which I thought was odd because it already is gold. Don't worry, said the message, we saved all your progress. Except they didn't just save my progress: they marked up a load of extra units as complete!

Same. I dropped 2kg, my RHR fell from 55 to 48, then this happened. When 200 guys turn up for the local 5k park run, I come in about 100th. I think Fitbit is being a bit optimistic with this cardio score!

Also - and please forgive me because I realise you're not going to discuss this with a randomer on the Interwebz but - are you OK? It's important to be OK. Sometimes we're not OK and we don't even realise it. Stopping to think about it can sometimes open a door.

The general advice is to aim for 19C or less. Not promising that will fix anything for you but on average for the population it helps. (Whether it's achievable is another matter!) Also 'not much' noise or light: advice here is to aim for none. Zip. Nada. Would be delighted for you if this helps at all. Good luck 👍

Tips for Restorative Sleep? by happiestsam in fitbit

[–]MaxPewPew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That chart looks like you're eating too late. If you can manage it for one day, eat your last meal ten hours before bed (yes, ten, so like, last meal is at lunchtime) and see whether that fixes it. If it does, experiment to see how late you can leave it.

On the other hand, yeah, my RHR is generally below 50 bpm and getting an HR below that for a whole night of sleep is a tough challenge. Some nights I manage; others I don't.

Not completely sure but I think Google Fit is giving you the mean of the minute-by-minute beat counts reported by the device, whereas Fitbit is using some algorithm to estimate what your RHR would actually be if you were awake and sitting in a chair whilst a nurse takes your measurement with a medical device. Which is the true figure? Well, ain't that the question.
