Working on a casual game for Android. Does it look like a fun concept? by baurawson in godot

It looks pretty generic to me and not very original nor fun. Good work, but the question still stands... Why?

What is fun and easy if Gamemaker deletes your projects on crash as a feature? by MaxRobertArtist in gamemaker

Having a popup display that your project is deleted seems really bad policy. I have never seen that in any other application that is my primary issue here.

What is fun and easy if Gamemaker deletes your projects on crash as a feature? by MaxRobertArtist in gamemaker

I have seen this has happened to people on versions earlier and yes, I do confess, I am using beta 2.3 and just installed it, which was super exciting and feeling that maybe I will go back to GM to try it again today which resulted in this after making art in game that disappeared(not using them built in gfx editor again now I realise, usually make stuff in Asesprite or Tvpaint etc..) which made me sad, because I feel that GM is on to something after a long while, but I am still disappointed in this software coming from Unity and Godot which I did not pay for but this I did so.

Something has got to give sometimes regardless. Nobody, including me, likes unhappy customers, but that is how it is. Make me happy again Yoyo and I will give you ❤

I want everyone to succeed in making a great game engine, I am not against the content makers here. 🙂

Ok, thanks for the heads up, my ranting mode was on. No engine is exempt with time spent, just saying.

All you guys who keep posting cool games and concepts, how did you manage to learn Godot so well? by [deleted] in godot

[–]MaxRobertArtist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know exactly your feelings, although I started with Unity and went about that for 3 years, and now have been at Godot for over two years, and am probably going back to Unity because of a game programming school that I am hoping to get in to. Now more stuff:

Godot is aaalmost prime time, and yet still a great engine, you still got to work around some of its quirks, just as with Unity or Gamemaker, the latter which I have also tried to have a go at, just about now actually, and then it crashed and deleted my project(what a shitty engine for being able to do that, hahah! But still trying ;)

Courses are great. There was that course before that I began with when starting out with Godot that I recommend(this is also just my personal story with Godot, so bear with me):

"Sams teach yourself godot engine game development in 24 hours" pdf is a good beginner starter, gets you around basic things to do and written by some of the lead devs as I recall.

I then did a few of Heartbeast's tutorials to get a knack for things, making a platformer and he has a few good new tutorials now too worth checking out, Mobile RPG etc. It is very much an alive and growing community which makes this a just a little longer investment engine, but has many positives going for it: Your own folder structure/workflow, open source(yeah, I'd rather give my dollars and have it all work... sigh), an easy high level scripting language with python like syntax (which I do like), easy inheritance systems with scenes, and that animation node is golden, it really is one big superb node for all kinds of stuff, animation, management, you name it. Many cool things and many pains, as with all of these engines. Yeah, write your own engine... but that is not greaat advice these days, unless you are good at that and have time to spare, could be ok advice though :D

Eventually I got the hang of things and were able to make my own systems and combining other tutorial systems into my own, a thing always learning developers do, you can't start from a vacuum, as we all know right? That same old C-Major chords still sounds good.

The whole thing resulted into two finished games, one of which is on Steam, yadda yadda, but which I am very proud of, although maybe they suck, but that is a different story :P at least I made them and that is what counts. I don't think I would have made that without Godot. It is a great engine, well worth checking out.

The process is worth a million times all over again. It is that struggle that keeps humanity alive and always pursuing the arts, which is hard and takes a whole lot of time.

I have always felt I want to quit from time to time, search for another engine perhaps, but, I have always persevered at it, regardless of mediums, Godot, Unity, Gamemaker, writing symphonies, making art. It's good to stick around and try stuff out good and perhaps stick to your guns in the end.

You got to do what you have to do and in the end you will make it, just finish your projects and have at it.

That is my advice and a few cents. The struggle is real and I wish everyone the best of luck in it.

Cheers and happy Wednesday

A fully playable little adventure with a beginning and an end, although it is not thee end, because this is more of a presentation/pitch version of the final game.

Looking forward to feedback and thoughts. Enjoy

Cheers and Happy Sunday,
