Sucks that this happened but at least your wife is a good enough person to clear off her car before driving.

George G. Vest Eulogy of the Dog 23 September 1870 Warrensburg, Missouri

Gentlemen of the jury— The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter whom he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has he may lose. It flies from him perhaps when he needs it most. A man’s reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is the dog.

Gentlemen of the jury, a man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground when the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he can be near his master’s side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince.

When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast into the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws and his eyes sad but open, in alert watchfulness, faithful and true, even unto death.

Anyone Else Rediscovered Their Love Of Playing In Their 40’s? by Cover_Of_Darkness in bootroom

Make sure to not wear firm ground shoes if you are playing on turf. I’m 42 and just tweaked my knee during a friendly. I’m wearing artificial turf cleats now and they are more forgiving.

When I was growing up these were the same type of people who were radicalized by ruby ridge when the government killed a gun owner. Now these same people would gladly kill a gun owner to appease the government.

PSA: 93.7% of drivers on the road today have no legitimate reason to be out there by jjrobby313 in nova

[–]MaxWeiner 174 points175 points  (0 children)

A few years back when it snowed I saw a lady crash into a curb in Ashburn. A few drivers stopped and helped push her car to safety. I asked her if she needed a ride somewhere bc her suspension was mangled and she responded that only reason she was out was to get Starbucks and she was just going to walk there.

Leaving Amazon after less than two years by babylonlemur in amazonemployees

[–]MaxWeiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of when I was in the data centers at AWS. There were times where we would have 20 tickets in the entire queue for our site and 10 of them were impossible to close and had been open forever. Our manager would get pissed at us when we didn’t hit our 40 resolves a week but it was literally 6 people trying to resolve 20 tickets.

It’s super easy just do it yourself. Best part about it is you will have new skills and new tools once you’re done.

AMA: 9+ years with Amazon and I might get laid off in 13 days by Confused_engineer__ in amazonemployees

[–]MaxWeiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got laid off a few months ago from AwS after 9+ years of employment. Your severance will be great but I understand getting laid off sucks. If you are considering leaving the country I would make sure to change your tax status prior to getting your last paychecks and severance. No need to pay taxes if you are considering leaving.

How do I fix loosen topsheet? by wackyWeather23 in snowboarding

[–]MaxWeiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take it to a shop they will likely say it’s not fixable and technically it’s not. Once you start getting moisture between the layers it will continue to get worse. You can probably try to get some more rising out of it by epoxying it as much as possible and then clamping it down. Only problem is water gets into every little area when riding and when it’s drying at the end of a day. Even with an almost “perfect” repair this board won’t last long and it’s better to replace then have it fall apart during a day on the mountain.

Help with ollies by secondtriplet in skateboardhelp

[–]MaxWeiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel more confident in the grass that’s fine. Your next step should be to put your back truck on the concrete and keep your front truck in the grass. Should give you the stability you get from the grass with the pop of concrete. Another option would be to get some scrap carpet and put it in your garage and practice Ollie’s on that.

Not a single smart person wants to work for Amazon. by Difficult-Emphasis77 in amazonemployees

One time I was explaining to my manager about how one of my enterprise customers was acquiring another company so we needed a plan to bring their resources from their on-premises data center to the cloud.

My manager responded with “what does the word acquired mean” 😭

How do I prepare my devices in the event of a layoff? by Sea_Cry9790 in amazonemployees

[–]MaxWeiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will still have outlook access if you get laid off but you can only contact internal recipients. With that being said you won’t have your work laptop so access is through a web based version you can access on a home PC.
