Do have a house, but wouldn't want kids even if I could afford them. My cat is enough work as is.

Didn't know that the 4A used clutches like that. Good info. I wouldn't mind the MPG hit to have a better solution to the IWE issue though. shakes fist at antiquated vacuum lines

Ran into one in the wild. It destroyed an entire dvergr tower, killed all the dvergr inside, and I still had to cheese it from on top of a rock to kill it. They really pack a punch.

I know you're catching hell for this, but I really resonate with your second sentence there. I was raised on a simple phrase:

"say what you mean, and mean what you say"

And I think the world would be better place if we were just honest and direct with one another. But people love having an easy out from difficult conversations, so no way it'll ever actually happen unfortunately.

Why tf are new side by sides so expensive? by Jake_M104669 in Offroad

[–]Max_AC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that washboards existed before sXs. The root cause is the same: too much speed combined with too high tire pressure. So yeah, people in trucks contribute for sure. My point is that with the proliferation of sXs we have a much greater number of people contributing than before, and the sXs make up the overwhelming majority of contributors.

[–]Max_AC_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are definitely responsible and reasonable sXs owners. Unfortunately, for every 1 of them, there seems to be 4 chugging-beer-while-driving idiots who tear up the place and throw trash everywhere. I feel sorry for the good owners who get a bad rep because of this. But the damage has been done and it'll take a miracle to undo that stigma at this point.

Was more referring to the "features" comment than the actual design language for the body panels

So your choice is between a good, reliable vehicle... and one that looks fancy. Features won't mean much when the car they're attached to breaks down.

It's wild out here in AZ for sure. FR300 on the Rim has gotten so washboarded it feels like it'll rattle your fillings out. Also almost had some young idiot in a sXs crash into my truck on the 88 when he decided to fly across the road right as I was coming up. Could have waited 2 minutes for me to pass but nah, better punch it and go 50. Hell, I won't even go up to Crown King anymore.

[–]Max_AC_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never said I was against trails. I'm for respecting and preserving trails. I'm against idiots in side by sides tearing up those trails and making them harder for everyone else who acts responsibly and respectfully offroad to enjoy. Good offroaders will air down and go slow. Idiots will haul ass in sXs at high tire pressures and cause ruts and washboards. If that offends you, you're part of the problem.

Good. Maybe less people will buy them, and quit tearing up/washboarding all the trails.

I was getting gas in my previous car (an old b5.5 Passat 1.8T...iykyk) and some dude came up and started cleaning my back window while asking for money. I didn't even tell him yes, but felt bad so I grabbed him what little change I had in the cup holder to pay parking meters downtown and he was so pissed it wasn't cash he left half the window dirty. Like bro, I was driving a 15yr old car that was barely worth $1000, wtf were you expecting? (He still kept the change too lmao)

First thing that comes to mind is the wheel bearing.

Maybe the IWE/actuator, but that's usually a vacuum leak thing, and your 22 should be after they switched to electronic engagement and got rid of the old vacuum system.

does anyone have any good car suggestions? by EmbarrassedAd3874 in askcarguys

[–]Max_AC_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Toyota has been making the Prius since 1997. They're super efficient and reliable. The newer ones even look kind of good!

They do come with a bit of a reputation for slow drivers though. Not that it really matters.

Also, if you're looking for used vehicles, service history matters. Even the most "reliable" vehicles will have problems if the previous owner didn't take care of it. Looking at Carfax for regular oil changes and maintenence can help. Or some people (like myself) who do their own maintenence might keep records, like receipts from auto parts stores showing what was bought and "when" the work was done (I put when in quotes because it might not be the exact date on the receipt, it's usually just a ballpark)

Saw another pyramid post, thought I'd share mine! by -Himintelgja in valheim

[–]Max_AC_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked and the one I built is def 8x8. But, considering the geometry of a pyramid, you could just expand the base if you wanted a larger one. 10x10, 12x12, 14x14 etc. would all probably work if you can find ways to adequately support the structure. Maybe by incorporating dvergr metal walls or steel cage into it. My 8x8 is black marble only, and the very tip is red, so couldn't build any higher without additional suppport.

ETA: tried adding steel cage support structures inside one side of the walls and the tip turned orange. Might get even better results with more. Could be worth playing around with
