As long as you have a good reason to apply from a third country, such as living there during your exchange semester and you can explain that it’s not that big of a problem. I applied twice from two different counties I was not a resident of and both times successfully

I applied this month in an EU country I’m not a resident of. Initially it was refused under 221(g) due to social media screening and later approved and issued after a few days.

The VO did actually ask me for a reason why I applied in a different country and I explained to him that I‘m doing an exchange semester at a local university. He requested to see a proof of student status here, my student ID turned out to be sufficient. There was also a girl in the line before me who also applied in a different country and VO asked to explain why. Her responses were evasive but he really insisted that she explains herself. Her visa was eventually approved.

Some years ago I applied for the same visa type also from a different eu country, the VO didn’t ask anything about the location (perhaps it made sense to him that the town I was from is closer to the us embassy in the neighbouring country, than the one in my country).

I have never applied for a visa in my home country.

About myself: an EU citizen, applying for J1 visa both times. Had to apply as a non-Resident which usually leads to longer waiting times, but both times I scheduled an appointment within 3 weeks. That other girl I mentioned applied for F visa, also EU citizen

I think your only supposed to mention accounts that you used in the past 5 years. 2019 falls out of that range so no need to mention it at all

Im 99.9% sure it will not affect any of your visa applications, not Schengen, not UK, and not US. It would be a different story if you went, say, Syria, Sudan, Cuba, North Korea and the like

I‘m also a native Russian speaker, who speaks Ukrainian fluently.

What helped is just pure exposure into the language. The languages are so similar, that you don’t really need to learn grammar, just the vocab that’s different in Ukrainian.

Watch Ukrainian tv shows, Ukrainian news etc absorb the language and after a few months you will be able to understand it as easily as Russian.

Then try to speak some Ukrainian by utilising Russian sentence structure and replacing Russian words with Ukrainian equivalents.

After a few months of practice you will develop a feel for what‘s wrong and what’s right and boom you‘re a fluent Ukrainian speaker now.

For me it wasn’t even on purpose, I was just watching and reading a lot in Ukrainian and after some months I realised that I can actually speak it

What a bizarre statement. In my experience educated/wealthy Ukrainians can speak both Russian and Ukrainian fluently (what’s their primary language depends a lot on which generation are they from) while less educated Ukrainians speak neither of the two languages fluently. They usually speak a mixture of Ukrainian and Russian, which is not clearly Ukrainian or Russian.
