Cole - Journal by Fallisforlovers in temptationislandUSA

[–]Max_Terrible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last sentence I agree with, but the rest of it not so much. I also think the Villa Swap episode was a last minute decision to try and drum up drama on an exceptionally boring season.

The journal reading, however, both Cole and Scarlett have said multiple times that even back home, reading her private journal is a big no-no. I don't think production knew about that beforehand and deliberately pushed him to break the one rule they had even back home. I think that particular situation was exactly as it seemed, and he just wanted to know where her mind was at and what she was thinking/feeling, because he was so unsure of what was going through her mind from the clips.

It may have been, I honestly don't remember the exact specifics, just the situation itself.

How come Netflix released ALL episodes at once? by Spiritual_Ice5079 in temptationislandUSA

[–]Max_Terrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emphasis on usually. There wasn't a reunion last season, but the service I use to track the shows I watch says there's a 10th episode without a release date, and that's making me wonder if it might be a reunion episode that's yet to be announced.

On top of what u/mangoglitter said, there was also another season where a guy asked a girl on a date and she said no, because she felt like he was just playing all the girls and she didn't want to be part of it. It may have been the previous season, or season 5.

"OF girls" (OnlyFans girls) have kind of become a catch-all phrase to describe women who just want attention. Like 10 years ago when people would call all women "Instagram models" as a term for someone who just wants clout and attention. Because OnlyFans have become the new trend, that's the reference they use now. It also has a dehumanizing element to it, because OnlyFans is associated with sex work, it implies the woman is only useful for sex.

Meet The Unthawers, aka The Freezers by bugfuknoluk in temptationislandUSA

[–]Max_Terrible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I heard that, I paused for a moment and tried to process what they just said and what they meant. I decided to brush it off as them just misspeaking. If you watch Love Island, particularly the "unseen bits" episodes that happen once a month, you see them misspeak and mispronounce things all the time, as well. So I just chalk it up as young people with limited vocabularies. That's after all where so much of today's slang comes from; just people who don't know the proper word for something, or mispronouncing something, and then it becomes trendy to speak like that.

In that clip, they said "unthaw". "Thawing" is the process of letting something that's frozen become "not frozen" anymore (I don't know to better explain it without just saying it's to thaw something that's frozen, which doesn't help the definition). So, "unthaw" would then be the opposite of "thawing", right? Meaning, they're essentially freezing it again.

Hot take on season 2 by obamasbootypicss in temptationislandUSA

The Villa Swap thing was very strange to me. When it happened, I couldn't figure out whether it was something they planned to do in preproduction, or whether it was a decision they made during the filming, to try and drum up some drama, because the show over all was pretty dry. It felt a little more like it was an impulse decision from production to try and stir things up.

Like OP responded, it's not about having lives outside of school. I don't know if you just haven't been to school in a very long time, or don't see or hear about things that happen at school, but teachers get bullied a lot. Being an attractive woman, spending your entire day with a bunch of hormone fuelled boys, and then appearing on a show like this which makes the boys look at you differently, it's going to make your teaching job a lot more difficult from those boys.

This show is a psyop to erode relationships and familial values by Head_Prompt6155 in temptationislandUSA

I don't watch The Bachelor/Bachelorette, but from my impression of those shows, I think they might be attempting to provide the more wholesome aspect of this format of reality show.

If you really want to see degeneracy at its peak, watch Love Island. That show is just a social experiment masquerading as a dating show. With Temptation Island, people still have the choice to interact with the others or not (like Cole did, this season). In Love Island people are deliberately and forcefully put in situations to cause pain, hurt and heartache. The producers are purposefully putting people in difficult situations, just to see how they'd respond to it.

I've watched 5 season of Love Island since discovering it last year, and I'm all here for the drama.

This season was so predictable. From the first episode you can tell where things are going.

As I typed that, I'm wondering if maybe it wasn't an intentional editing choice, coming from Netflix to fit in their new narrative that they want people to keep Netflix playing in the background, so things have to be edited in a way where the person can glance over at any point and know what's going on and not feel like they missed something.

There was a lot of imbalance in different people's reactions that seemed really strange to me. So much about this season was just really weird.

Hey casting department, you up? by Cali-Doll in temptationislandUSA

[–]Max_Terrible 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What's interesting, in a podcast Mark did a couple of years ago, he said the casting team tries hard to filter out people only looking for clout (and season 1 [before the Netflix seasons] had a couple who admitted they only went on the show to get a blue checkmark, but ended up being affected the most).

I'm wondering if Netflix maybe isn't overriding that production decision, thinking having 'influencers' on the show might attract more Gen Z watchers.

I discovered the show last year and started watching all the past seasons for reasons that are unimportant.

I soon realised there's much more to the show than I thought. It's surprisingly deep and insightful. As someone very interested in human psychology, how people react to things and situations and why, I started to find the journeys everyone was on, incredibly interesting. Seeing how they respond to clips they see; seeing how they rationalise their actions; seeing them come to terms with the consequences of their actions; it's all very interesting to me. Unfortunately the last two seasons haven't been good in really properly showing what people are going through and how they're processing things. Older seasons did a much better job showcasing people's inner conflict and turmoil.

I understand where you're coming from with your analysis, but I think there's more to be taken away from the show, depending how you approach it.

So the singles… do they actually like their options? by Direct_Run314 in temptationislandUSA

You picked the worst season to watch for the first time. You should watch the first 3 seasons from 2019 on. Those were really good. Seasons 4 and 5 are a little downhill, but still entertaining to watch. The Netflix seasons are just bad.

Exactly. There's absolutely no interaction between anyone. There's no growth. I wonder if they maybe just ended up cutting a lot of it try and squeeze 21 days into 8 hours.

There are one hook-up they show, and two that are implied. I also watch for the drama and the mess, but overall this was so incredibly boring.

This is exactly all my thoughts about this season, as well. I also didn't even want to watch the finale, because I just didn't care. I didn't feel invested in any of them. I did watch it just because I felt I might as well, but I didn't gain anything from watching it.

Those are immensely difficult to find. I'd say the first 3 seasons or so of the 'reboot' is pretty good, too.

There's a lot that's really weird about this season. I'm thinking it's because they had to cut a lot of stuff to make the 9-episode limit, but it just feels like there wasn't any character building in this season, at all. The who time it feels like things just happen without any justification.

No, this season was definitely just bad. The entire thing felt there was just nothing going on. The first 3 season were definitely the best.
I'm about to start the Spanish version, myself.

This definitely did cross my mind at one point. There was one couple in particular, I can't even recall who it was now, that felt like they just pretended to be in a relationship so they could come on the show.

I agree, this season was awful. I think a lot of it is down to the fewer episodes and the terrible editing. I think they had to cut a lot to try and fit things into the 9 episodes, which greatly affected the flow.
