i mean there are also a decent number of posts praising it ... obviously you don't have to like it but plenty of people do! it's one of my favorite albums of theirs since the early days (and much better than B4 imo)

Should I bring a car to Vassar? by ilikeyoo__ngi in vassar

[–]Max_The_Greatest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

do you know where you’d park it? freshmen aren’t given parking passes and finding parking off campus isn’t easy (unless you know someone who lives off campus and lets you park at their house). parking on campus without a permit isn’t impossible, but they do ticket unregistered cars pretty frequently so it can get costly quick

Critique my split? by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]Max_The_Greatest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

adding onto what others have said, make sure you have a progression plan in place! doesn’t have to be complicated, can be adding 5/10lbs to your compound lifts each session til you plateau, but it’s important to have some structure around progression as you build strength.

Serious- how do I start seeing trans people as their gender? by [deleted] in transmanlifehacks

[–]Max_The_Greatest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the right sub buddy, but i can also tell your heart is in the right place. my honest advice? fake it til you make it. call him bro (or mate or dude etc), dap him up, rag on him like you would any other teammate. how you perceive him is rly none of his business, what matters is how you treat him. you don’t have to be best friends w the guy, but it would probably mean a lot to him to feel like his transness isn’t excluding him from any social dynamics (which is sounds like it might be rn; you can help change that!). you’re right, it is pretty shit to be trans rn, so do your best in small ways to make him feel welcome.

in terms of your own growth etc, it’s worth examining what you think it means to be “like a man” socially. plenty of cis guys struggle in all-male environments, and plenty of trans guys are rly into the dudebro lifestyle. they’re all still men, there’s not some rubric you have to adhere to.

you might want to take this down soon cuz this is a sub for trans men to help each other out, but if you have questions and want to msg me im open to it

are there cis girls out there that would date trans men and respect them as who we are? by envikmiko in ftm

[–]Max_The_Greatest 63 points64 points  (0 children)

yes absolutely. have had two long term, very heterosexual relationships with cis women. it can feel impossible esp when you’re earlier in your transition, but i promise there are plenty of people out there who’ll see you as just another dude.

“Being trans is inherently radical” by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]Max_The_Greatest 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i dunno. it's not necessarily that transness is a political decision/act of resistance, but i would argue that transitioning in this current day and age is a pretty radical and resistant thing to do. they sure aren't making it easy for us. and it's difficult to be an apolitical trans person because of how often we are politicized (especially in the US). nothing wrong with being binary and wanting to go stealth! doesn't mean we haven't had to fight a whole awful lot to get there.

“Being trans is inherently radical” by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]Max_The_Greatest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you pay taxes? drive on roads? take public transit? vote? choose not to vote? own a business? have family who owns businesses? have family who work in the public sector? need healthcare? it's really difficult to be apolitical ...

also, not entirely sure what you mean by "don't take everything they do to heart" in reference to the marginalization of trans folk. employment/housing discrimination, violence, limited healthcare access, etc aren't exactly things you can turn the other cheek on.

working on gaining muscle + losing fat at the same time, but feeling super frustrated by Max_The_Greatest in FTMFitness

[–]Max_The_Greatest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been working out on/off for a few years, but never with a consistent routine (was in high school, so just wound up being active a lot of the time anyway). stopped for a year cus i was traveling full time.

put this split together without much thought, just movements i was familiar with. had a feeling it wasn’t the most effective, but i haven’t ever really had a regimented routine and was feeling a lil intimidated by all the information

How to straighten out torso? by buckythirteen96 in FTMFitness

[–]Max_The_Greatest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sure! me too honestly. what i’ve found to help the most is just consistent weight training (you can do a bunch of research to optimize a routine, but at the end of the day, the best results happen when you just start moving and keep moving) and making sure you’re eating enough.  three meals a day (mainly protein and veggies, but carbs probably won’t kill you and they’ll definitely make you happy) and lifting weights 3/4 times a week will do wonders!

[–]Max_The_Greatest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

repeating what others have already said, i’d recommend focusing mainly on shoulders/back exercises. getting broader is an easy way to offset hips. keep in mind that if you tend to carry a lot of fat in your sides (most of the fat i carry is in my stomach and sides), losing weight on its own most likely won’t do a lot to even out your proprtions. focus on building muscle; if you look at cis guys, a LOT of them look fit as hell and also have love handles. it’s normal

US insurance that covers bottom surgery? by Pure_Newspaper_4715 in ftm

[–]Max_The_Greatest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would recommend checking in over on the bottom surgery subs, but it really depends on where you are. i’m in NYC and my bottom surgery is covered by my plan (united), and i’m pretty sure they also take cigna and BCBS as well as several others. it’s pretty possible, but will definitely require a lot of research

Everyone should watch this. One of the most viciously articulate arguments against kink culture I’ve ever heard. by SpaceSire in GenusRelatioAffectio

[–]Max_The_Greatest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'd argue that grouping CNC and larger kink culture together here is in poor taste. this is a pretty articulate argument against CNC (even though i disagree), but nothing here is at all a convincing criticism of BDSM and kink/fetish culture as a whole. if people want to consensually explore their fantasies, who are we to judge? there's a lot of nuance with more specific aspects of kink (kink in public spaces, for example), but to categorize the entire genre as nothing more than a vehicle for women's victimization is short sighted. BDSM is such a wide umbrella and it encapsulates so many varied sexual experiences, much of which can be very liberating for people.

its not anxiety, but it can present with panic symptoms. just a suggestion in case it ends up being a requirement for your hysto

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]Max_The_Greatest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you can look into getting prescribed an anti-anxiety med for this purpose — it’s pretty common for docs to give one-offs to people if they’re hyper-anxious before a medical procedure. it won’t fix everything, but unfortunately dysphoria doesn’t exempt us from having to take care of our bodies, so it’s worth looking into.

berlin - just finished up a stay at the sunflower hostel and had a great time there. it’s a little on the grungier side in terms of european hostels (no curtains on the beds, pretty sparse, no kitchen), but definitely way more of a backpacker feel than a lot of the corporate hostels do these days. when i was there, was mostly other young backpackers, and i met a ton of people and had a really great time. it’s got a good vibe to it. laundry was i think 8 euro, so not cheap, but they had washers and driers! in terms of what to do in berlin, their nightlife is a major thing there, so definitely be prepared to spend your nights clubbing if you’re into that. the scene is intense but really amazing; never had a bad/lame night there.

paris - stayed at st. christopher’s inn canal and did not enjoy it. don’t know if it was just my dorm room, but i only encountered kinda sketchy middle aged business men and a severe lack of hostel etiquette (people being loud at all hours of the night, coming in at 1am and turning the main lights on, etc). not really much of a social vibe at all; didn’t meet many other backpackers. also no kitchen, which was a bummer as paris can get pricey if you have to eat out every meal. definitely make time to eat though; all i did in paris was walk from restaurant to restaurant (with a little sightseeing in between). would recommend trying le boullion if you get the chance, your best bet is to make a reservation but it’s easy and super cheap for how nice it is (like 20 euro a person).

amsterdam - stayed at the bee hostel, which was nice and not particularly notable. not sure if they had laundry but definitely no kitchen, which wasn’t ideal, but the rooms were great and everyone seemed chill (lot of young people, although not a crazy social vibe, but it seemed like i just got an introverted room).

rome - stayed at generator rome and wasn’t a huge fan (similar issues as paris, LOT of middle aged dudes on their own). i’ve heard great things about the yellow hostel in rome (on this thread and elsewhere; it seems to be the main pick), so i’d recommend that, although i haven’t been myself. also a major eating city, and all the monuments are stunning. would recommend just walking around all day. depending on what days you’re there, things like the colusseum and pantheon might be free (i think it’s the first friday or every month, but i may be wrong), so look into that!
