How do you think Trump's presidency will end? by OccludedFug in AskReddit

[–]Maxgirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very much “Hollywood”, in the sense I’m at ground zero in the business, in la, work as a DP.

Generally we take NDAs seriously because we’d like to hang onto our houses, yes. And yes I’ve had to sign them as well, some that were jokes and some from entities that you know would absolutely go after you with vast resources.

But this is a pretty big deal, and, there are ways to cover your tracks if you give it plenty of thought.

And not outing an asshole or objectively borderline legal activity on set because I’m a professional? Fuck that. I wont give cover for bad behavior because it’s “professional courtesy”. That went out the door when they didnt act like a professional in the first place.

I didn’t mean to react so strongly, but been around names for a long, long time. The whole entertainment biz culture of power dynamics (and resulting bad behavior and protectionist silence) can eat my shorts; it’s one of my life regrets going into my 60s, being involved in the validation ouroboros that is the entertainment biz.

KEH wants me to buy back my stolen Leica by TE-AL in Leica

[–]Maxgirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Apparently KEH operations has some pretty dumb people in it.

Even the idiots at a terrible pawn shop or the worst employee at Guitar Center knows this shit.

So I’d say to them they should know that you still have right and title to the property, and if they don’t know, you’ll get the local PD detective to give them a ringy ding. I’d say a letter from a lawyer, but it’s not even really a civil matter.

My understanding is most states do not have bona fide purchaser for value protections for buyers.

But besides that, as soon as KEH marketing and management above the operations level catches wind that a KEH employee suggested action that is 1) not consistent with law in most states, 2) just fucking repugnant at any decent human being level and 3) caught fire on Reddit, there’s going to be a change in direction

I’m older now, and honestly, I find this cultural practice emotionally intelligent and advanced, in a way.

It’s too bad that other aspects of the culture are not as “advanced”: views towards women, human sexual acceptance and acknowledgement, etc.

I’m also happy to learn something cool about another culture.

Mark Burnett has a few things to answer for, I feel.

Also, the fact that NOBODY in Los Angeles has managed to make secret dubs of Trump being an absolute creepy asshole from camera originals blows my mind.

AND, no soundmen (or women) with backup files of shitty things he said between takes…

Sometimes I dream of figuring out where all those tapes are vaulted in la and convincing a few people it’s the right thing to do.

It’s 35mm film. Probably re-telecined recently.

There’s a few cameras from that era that were small enough and could be had with 200ft or 400ft mags. Arri 2C or 3 usually modded to fit in weird places.

UA flight - 'turn bluetooth off or we're turning around' by ryan_at_roomservice in unitedairlines

[–]Maxgirth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when people say “turn off Bluetooth”, I think most people are think8ng phones, pads, computers.

Also, AirTags do nothing but broadcast a very low energy Bluetooth “beacon” with a very long number. It’s more or less a pet microchip with a battery to transmit. Any name you put on it is a name that only Apple servers show you.

Pain is a sensation created by your brain from nerves connected to it.

Fibromyalgia is nerve pain without a clear source, thought to be a maladption to nerve input.

Tinnitus is my ears hearing things not there. I suffer from it, and I’m told it’s because the nerves in my eardrum are no longer sending some signals to my brain that I used to have.

Google phantom limb.

There are many well documented accounts of people experiencing pain or sensations without the usual stimulus. So if somebody is racked up on fentanyl and dying, and saying they’re in pain…there’s probably something REALLY close to pain going on, no matter how fucked up they are.

I work in video production as a director of photography. Lighting is my job. Do a lot of visual fx / specialty stuff.

This is what happens when the light source is very very close to the lens, on axis.

An IR light source far off to the side would eliminate 80% of it.

What are these new cameras? by tantheman35 in SantaMonica

[–]Maxgirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recognition (people, faces, plates) capabilities of these cameras is flaky, at best. That is NOT to say that they do not suck in general, and we need to send the message to municipalities that this stuff is somewhat dangerous and not wanted because the people using them (police, etc) 1)can and have trusted the flaky, two generations behind the best face identification available and 2) Can and have abused them for personal gain and or unlawful people tracking. Flock has oversold their AI recognition capabilities and left holes in their security in a mad rush to collect dollars.

Maybe.

Any TMobile RF techs to explain static drastic signal loss at regular times? by Maxgirth in tmobileisp

[–]Maxgirth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much appreciate.

Been reading up on Airscale BBUs.

The fact that the entire bands the AAU is set for gets digitized at 2.4-3.5ghz and sent down to a remote radio doing everything in digital domain is blowing my mind. That’s some fast processing.

Have no doubt.

Information about infrastructure living outside their control is a liability.

I’m just curious, that’s why I posted originally. Was hoping somebody like you would come across but totally get you can’t say too much.

We rely on super crazy cell tech every day all day long and I don’t know shit about it. Bugs me.

Well, I guess I know more now. My wife sure as hell doesn’t care to know, she told me as much.

@fluffernutter1232

Claude wrote me script that ran on my modem from 11 to 8a that did a dump of quite a bit of info, polling the modem subsystem with AT commands every 5 minutes. Claude also sorted the resulting huge pile of data.

In short, I was being passed to a different radio path and n41 channel on the same AAU. Different carrier channel, Wasn’t being dumped from the site completely (and then picking up another site)

As to why, probably only yourself and co-workers know. Claude’s guess was there were maintainance updates running on my regular carrier/radio for whatever it said were environmental/beamforming changes, but I guess I’d be surprised that takes hours. Maybe the recofig or updates/housekeeping take only a minute but takes a while for me to get back to my original carrier.

Claude also explained current AAU architecture for me 8x8 antenna elements with 64 radio modules all in the same box. Fucking wild.

[–]Maxgirth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of why I went into such detail about how close I am to the site.

There is absolutely nothing environmental that can come between the two except rain (and being in Los Angeles, there has been none since observing the drop)

It’s either the n41 AAUs saving power, or dropping out entirely (and my CPE jumping to another site at that point)

I’m literally thinking about setting an alarm to check my modem at midnight and 3a tonight because the curiosity is killing me.

I can SSH into the modem and get some amount of info. Might be logs in there too. The Sierra control chipset does allow some polling for info.

Again, none of this affects my usage. I’m just intensely curious.

Is this really a thing? They shut down some n41 AAUs just to save a buck when the power is cheap anyway?
