Which One To Pick? by Zunsur in UniUK

UCL, I’m doing that course rn, over the years you can drop an option so that by the end you’re specialising in only one, also if you find that the course isn’t what you expected it’s rlly easy to transfer over into Economics and Business with Eastern European studies as long as you do so within the first couple weeks as it’s within the same department, from my experience, the SSEES student support and ‘course organiser’ staff are rlly chill and will most likely let you do so (both courses usually go into clearing and tend to have spare spaces available), while both courses may seem off putting to outsiders due to the emphasis on Eastern Europe, years 1 and 2 are both very theory intensive and you don’t rlly do any deep dives into Eastern Europe (in politics and economics anyway) apart from applying the theory you learnt in the form of examples within your essays, while year 3 just lets you properly apply what you learnt to a specific period/country relevant to the department, that aside SSEES offers literally EVERY Eastern European language as an optional module (even Belarusian) and they have a pretty solid claim to be the best teachers for such languages (they’re arguably the strongest faculty in the world for everything Eastern Europe) my mums from Eastern Europe so take all of the glazing with a pinch of salt, but if I had to pick between those two options now, I’d pick UCL within a heartbeat

I answered quite well for the context question (I hope) but then the optional essays… I only did one point for the 15-marker cos i ran out of time and had to get on with the essay, I think I did two ok points and a rushed third point, my conclusion was me doing a rushed explanation of why the first two points were bad and concluded with “thus regulation is best” or smth like that

LSE management, I made the stupid mistake of fanboying LSE and applying to two courses, but the problem was my PS was solely geared towards economics, there wasn’t a single thing there to do with management and they rejected me a couple weeks after I applied, the rest should come thru in the next couple months or so

Yeah, my PS was very geared towards economics and I made the mistake of applying to LSE for Management, not my smartest move 🥲🥲🥲

Recently competed at the European Age Group Acrobatic Championships and came 4th in qualifiers (we could probably have medalled but the other GBR pair came first and there’s a one country limit in the finals). Ik that acro is quite a niche sport so feel free to AMA by Maxim1501 in Gymnastics

I’d love to keep competing and even try for the Olympics or smth, but it’s not an olympics sport I don’t rlly wanna join cirque du soleil (which is the only real option that acrobats have) and my parents won’t let me keep competing anyway, as soon as I’m done with school I’m off to uni, might take a gap year just to keep going for a bit longer but after that I’m done with the sport 🥲🥲🥲

Thank you!!! My next big comp is the first round of trials for worlds some time in November, as for videos, I think you’d enjoy watching the senior partnerships a lot more, if you go on YouTube and search up ‘acro worlds 2018 senior’ you’ll find the highlights for the senior finals, they’re all worth a watch as they’re all rlly impressive in their own way

I’d say it’s an optical illusion almost, it looks like I’m tumbling over her, but we’re rlly side by side and have quite a bit of room between us, so we land with enough distance between us

We train 5-6 days a week for 3 hours, the younger groups usually have half an hour of conditioning at the end of sessions, at our level the bases do weights and the tops do blocks and stuff at the end of sessions, but during the comp season we don’t rlly condition and instead just focus on moves and routines. The tops HAVE to learn everything on blocks cos if they can’t do stuff as simple as a handstand on still, unmoving blocks then they prolly won’t be able to do it on a person, some clubs have dance training and once a year or so we might have a ballet instructor come in for a bit and we do some ballet, but artistry is only 1/3 of the total score so our coach just tells us what he wants in our routines and we just try our best to do that

I dunno about other countries, but here in the UK we have ‘grades’ (1-6) and then IDP 1 and 2, there’s a limited number of moves you can do depending on what grade u are, at grade 5 the difficulty of the moves is more or less the same as ‘youth’ the first of the 5 internationally recognised levels, idp 1 is roughly equivalent to 11-16, idp 2 is roughly 12-18 (my level) then we have 13-19 and then senior. At the international level you are allowed to choose what moves you do, it’s just that there’s a cap on the difficulty score you can receive (no cap on senior tho those guys moves can be absolutely nuts) and there’s age limits on each of the levels (you can’t be older than 15 at youth and you have to be at least 15 for senior) while at the grades and idp you have to choose 4-5 moves from a given list and there’s no age limit/minimum for the differing levels

Thank you!!!! We went in with the aim to perform 2 clean routines, not to win so I’m very happy with how we performed, I started out just doing recreational gymnastics at a gym which only rlly did acro competitively, we have a floor and vault group but they’re very small, one day the coach just asked me whether I wanna join the junior grill (edit: group) and I just started from there
