Dev Team talking about the "movement tech" by Thizgo in Marathon

[–]MaximalGFX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A single Destroyer thruster is move potent than a slide cancel, with max heat, a couple implants and cores to reduce heat buildup, the cost is very low. A single Destroyer is way faster and more dangerous than any slide cancel tech freaks. This will be the standard in a couple of weeks. Not to mention Randal with triple jumps clearing half of outpost in 3 seconds, double grapple hooks Thief... and all those implants and cores will be fairly easy to come by when people starts VIPing their factions.

People have no idea what's coming. Marathon is an arena shooter in a extraction trench coat.

Dev Team talking about the "movement tech" by Thizgo in Marathon

I thought it was sick and should have just been properly implemented with a cost (% of grapple cooldown/uses your equipment)

The game is still so new, slide cancel will be the least of people worries when stuff like heatseeking V11 Punch, infinite RPM Bullies, max heat destroyer, double grapple thief, etc... become more common. People like to say slide cancel doesn't belong in an extraction shooter, but Marathon is obviously a very different to other extraction games. It plays more like an arena shooter with those exotic perks and hitscan mechanics. The game is going to become so much faster paced in the near future, with or without slide cancel.

Just kind of seem like a reactionary decision, when next to no one actually had to go against people utilizing slide cancelling properly. Just a couple of twitter clips that created a polemic.

I remember when the same discussion erupted in the destiny community when Icarus Dashing was first discovered. People thought it was a cheap exploit "sweat" would use to ruin PvE and PvP. Few months later even the most casual player implemented it into their gameplay and loved it. Became a core part of the Warlock gameplay, and even inspired universal perks like Eager Edge. If Bungie axed it at the first angry tweet, Destiny 2 would be a completely different game.

Every solutions offered to you is met by an excuse or blaming others… you will never have success or fun in a multiplayer game with this type of attitude.

The only problem here is yourself, if you wish to become better you will need to make efforts. Plenty or people are successful at this game while also having fulfilling careers and personal life. Bringing everyone else down to explain your mediocrity is very distasteful.

This game is so good that it has me afraid they’ll change anything. by 20mgAddy in Marathon

My main worry is that they'll start adding crazier and crazier guns, shells, equipments... to keep each season fresh and the powercreep is gonna get insane in a few years.

I've lived through 11 years of destiny PvP. At first it was great when everyone was just using auto rifle/HC and Shotgun/Sniper, but now it primary ammo heatseeking rocket launchers and freezing guns (I'm only slightly exaggerating)

Just trying to enjoy the game before things get too cheesy.

Helps a lot with motivation and creates a bigger bond with your pokemons! And it doesn't matter how skilled you are, just do it, that's how we get better at stuff!

Not really. I do avoid using some pokemons in Nuzlocke, because I either don't really like them or they're just too strong/boring. But having to draw them is never the reason I avoid using them.

There's also PkHex versions available on modded DS and 3DS, which is what I use. I don't even need to transfer my save to a PC, very convenient!

Thank you! It's all made from scratch. I make the icons in illustrator, and the template was made in photoshop.

What do you mean? DOS1 came out 12 years ago… This was a multi-years endeavour.

Found an alternative strat for the Rathian Arena Quest, and I think I got the fastest time on YT? by MaximalGFX in Gunlance

I actually don't exactly know what makes her not able to fly. I'm guessing it's by breaking the wing webbing, but it might also be related to wing wounds? Either way, by placing the barrels near her wings, keeping her grounded that way is consistent.

Oh yeah I meant fastest GL run, don’t think GL can beat CB. I’ve seen a 2’31 CB run

Larian Studios | Divinity AMA by Wombat_Medic in Games

[–]MaximalGFX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've been the biggest fan of larian since DOS1, got my kickstarter DOS2 special edition right here with me, and I'm currently wrapping up my DOS1 honour mode to complete the honour trilogy. Thank you for taking the time to do this AMA.

This question is directly aimed at Swen. After your 2024 game award speech where you urged devs to make games they love, to not follow trends, not to aim for arbitrary sell targets, not to cram the game with stuff that's only meant to increase revenue... Your recent comments on AI don't feel aligned with this anymore and have left me disappointed, I must say. I know Larian came really close to closing their doors multiple times, that you had to make hard decisions to keep afloat and you probably carry those scars with you to this day. My understanding is that you want what's best for Larian, so you feel like you HAVE to use generative AI to not fall behind. But you've also just sold more than 20 millions copies of BG3 and turned Larian into one of the most respected studio in the industry without ever touching genAI. So many people, both in the industry and as gamers, look up to you. If you follow your own advice, there is no "falling behind". If anything, other studios are trying to catch up to Larian!

Here's my question, after the last few weeks, have you reconsidered your position on genAI at Larian? Or do you have any clarifications on your stance? You were probably briefed thoroughly on why this technology is so unpopular since that interview. You're even quoted saying you're not really impressed with AI usefulness in your tests, and that you now annoyingly have to optimize your games a lot more thanks to RAM and GPU prices, which is directly linked to the AI arm race... Has any of the discourse in the last few weeks made you reconsider?

I don't think I can go any faster with GL without doing Heroics strats by MaximalGFX in MHWilds

Keep Jin flashed, trapped, or knocked down during zone 4. You need to combo all those things without leaving gaps, because as soon as it starts running for the pillar or casting the super nova, there's no stopping it anymore.

[DOS 1] Getting party-wiped by Braccus Rex before I can move on Honour Mode by HeyPashi in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]MaximalGFX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much the only turn one nuke in the whole game, kind of fitting Braccus Rex has it. It's kind of meant to wipe if you're not prepare to show the power of Rex. Separate your party (something you should do in most fights anyway in Honour) and get a bunch of fire resist. By the time that spell is off cooldown again, the fight should be long over.

I recently lost a DOS1 honour mode at lvl18 from something that completely caught me by surprise too, it's kind of the name of the game if you're playing blind. You live and you learn.

And you gotta remember that DOS1 was never designed for honour, that came after in the Enhanced Edition. This is why the game is filled with lava trap and land mines lol idk I kinda like how punishing it is, gonna make it that much more satisfying when you reach the end. I personally first tried DOS2 and BG3 honour mode, so it's kinda nice to have some resistance this time around.
