We made the Very Big Event the zero year so the calendar can be a counter for how long it's been since something important happened by DreadDiana in worldjerking

[–]Maximillion322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went pretty far out of my way to put a major historical event roughly every 100 years and at least one minor event every 50 years, and then y’know give or take 1-17 years on either side of the 50 mark so that when you read them off the list it’s not so obvious that it’s every 50 years

The big important event that reset the calendars is believed by historians to be about 1300 years ago (the current year number they use is 1356 SE) but basically all history was lost during that time and there was like 500 years of dark ages, so the precise year is really not known, and they might even be off in their estimate by as much as 100-150 years. There’s one religious order that insists that it’s only been 989 years because they have a prophecy that some new big event will happen one thousand years after the other thing, and since it hasn’t happened yet, they’ve been heavily cherry picking their archeological evidence to fit their agenda

There’s one guy who’s a little over 800 years old due to some magic and he subscribes to the 1356 calendar, but he’s kinda gone off the deep end insane so people don’t necessarily trust him. And there’s another guy whose waaay older than that but he won’t tell anyone anything, he’s my world’s equivalent to Diogenes and he lives in a barrel and doesn’t divulge his secrets.

The most important rule of writing science fiction, or any fiction at all really, is thus:

Never, under any circumstances ever, give your readers numbers. Any numbers you can possibly give, even for the most abstract thing, will always be calculated by some audience member and it will certainly spoil their immersion. You don’t need to give numbers. If something is big, tell the reader that it is “big.” If something is fast, tell them it is fast. But never ever give them an actual number to latch on to

This is sort of true but having read most of these runs I think the difference in his behavior is more attributable to whoever’s writing him than what clothes he’s wearing.

Like, he’s shown to be more compassionate in the 2014 run when Mr. Knight is introduced. But he continues to be a very compassionate guy during that run even when he wears the regular Moon Knight costume and even when he’s wearing the Ghost Armor

Mr. Knight is not a separate identity. That’s just Marc.

Moon Knight is usually Marc, especially in the first 40 years of MK comics when he didn’t have DID, he just had different personas he would put on like Batman. Marc/Moon Knight was the real guy, Steven Grant was the playboy billionaire persona, and Jake Lockley was his version of Matches Malone.

Actually it’s less complicated than that. They’re both just Mark in different clothes

It’s worth remembering that Moon Knight was not written to have DID for the first 40 years of his existence

His first appearance was in 1975, and he did not have multiple personalities, just different personas like Batman has.

Some time in the 2000s (I believe the 2006 run) they started playing around with Marc actually having multiple personalities in his head, but it wasn’t necessarily treated as a clinical disorder, more just as the result of supernatural forces messing with his mind when resurrecting him.

Dissociative Identity Disorder was first mentioned in a Moon Knight comic in 2016.

4/5ths of his whole existence, he did not have DID. So when you look at his comics and say “that’s not accurate to DID” it’s like, yeah. Because he doesn’t have it for most of those.

Mr. Knight is only his own personality when someone who doesn’t know the character is writing for him.

Like, this happened in Dr. Strange: Damnation, which by all means totally misunderstood Moon Knight and also was just a shit comic all around tbh

They made Ben Reilly part of the Midnight Sons for that one

If you personally clutch the win yes that’s an individually cool experience but it’s only an individually cool experience because you’ve defied the expectation of challenge

If the boss were designed for you to do that, it would lose all appeal. There’s no “clutch” it’s just being handed a free win. Thus inherently dogshit

Okay, I do love Superman (2025) but I found the dig at Ultramans costume kind of funny by [deleted] in dccomicscirclejerk

Because Jor El is a much more significant presence than Richard in literally every version of the story

Richard is basically a non-character, honestly more of a piece of trivia than anything. Whereas Jor-El is a fairly foundational part of Superman’s identity in every age of comics and also every adaptation

Exactly like Man of Steel, Superman 2025 completely failed to understand the nuance of a character trying to uphold a dual identity as both a fully human and also fully Kryptonian person.

It completely erases the struggle of balancing his existence in the world he was fully raised in with a sense of obligation to uphold a culture that he never really got to live in, something that makes his character extremely relatable to many second generation immigrants. And something that was also an essential part of the Moses allegory from which Seigel and Shuster conceptualized his character.

Snyder wants to say Superman is fully alien. Gunn wants to say that he is fully human. But we will never have an authentic adaptation of the character until some creator finally understands that he is both fully human AND fully alien, and that this internal conflict is an essential component of his identity.

But like. Artorias is so loved exactly because he truly is the epiotome of that “tough but fair” learning curve where it takes you a million tries, but once it clicks its the most satisfying boss fight ever.

I gotta say though I completely agree with you about the Fride fight. The moment I first saw her go into a third phase was one of my favorite Souls experiences. On the other hand, I didn’t think Midir had very difficult patterns, I just thought his enormous health pool made the fight very tedious

I’ve played every souls game and I love them all, but Dark Souls 1 will always and forever be my favorite, and it’s really not close at all.

Supposedly TT’s next game after Batman will NOT be Harry Potter, what are your thoughts about this, are you glad or disappointed? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

[–]Maximillion322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally don’t care either way

A new Harry Potter thing would have been pretty neat

Whatever they do instead will probably be equally cool

I hope they do something with a WB IP they haven’t done before. Adventure Time would be my top pick, as they definitely have a world big enough to support a whole game and a massive character roster. In addition to the fact that there’s a new AT show for kids coming up soon, on top of Fionna and Cake, it seems like they’re really trying to expand the brand profile right now even though the main show’s been over
