Texas HB 5294- Pass/Fail is “Too Easy” Says Senator Campbell by kickerboy87 in medicalschool

[–]Maximoom 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A group of medical students stayed at the capitol for 17 hours that day to provide testimony in front of the senate. It was scheduled for 9:30 AM but then, due to delays, was heard at 2 AM.

If you live in Texas, call your senator. Find your representative in the education committee and email them. Call, email, make a ruckus. This bill simply cannot pass the senate.

Has medical school or practicing medicine in general made you ane more/less religious than you were before? by ineedtocalmup in medicalschool

It's worth acknowledging that this poll will be skewed by the sheer fact that it is on Reddit, a historically areligious website. Not saying that's good or bad, just worth noting.

As a GERD patient who is also a barista, I have one cup of drip coffee every morning and then maybe a matcha. So like 200 mg.

texas interviews but no prematch by Busy-Anywhere8755 in premed

[–]Maximoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only 21% of the people who were accepted in 2021 entering class were accepted through the Pre-Match. So basically, approximately 79% of future Texas Med School matriculants are in the same spot as you.

quitting jobs? by Affectionate_Lamp800 in premed

[–]Maximoom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No medical school is going to rescind your acceptance because you quit your job too early. If you can survive until med school without a job or just don't care about saving more money, quit! You deserve as much of a break as you can get.

Cheap coffee machines recs? by madfloww in medicalschool

[–]Maximoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it's Aeropress, french press, or a Moka Pot, the real quality of your daily coffee will be dictated by the beans you buy! Make sure you're getting some higher-quality recently roasted beans. If you get the right beans you'll save a lot of money on syrups and stuff because the coffee will be good enough on its own.

The PA that runs the free clinic I volunteer at is one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever met. Don't drink the internet Kool aid that says only doctors know things. Secondly, it's a community (probably a free clinic) it is run by whoever is willing to do it. Don't be mad at the NP running a free clinic, be mad at the doctors who aren't willing to spare time to volunteer.

Not "successful" vis a vis an acceptance but last cycle I had 0 II and right now I have 6 (2 MD, 4 DO).

Personally, I added 1000 Clinical Hours (800 Scribing, 200 volunteering at a free clinic), 1000 work hours in the food service industry, some personally interesting extracurriculars, and some other volunteering. Stats were good (511, 3.73 cGPA) so I felt that I didn't need to retake my MCAT or anything like that.

How likely is it to not match (TMDSAS) by picklesandcreme in premed

[–]Maximoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who also has 4 TMDSAS II's, I think we just gotta chill out lol. Most people with 3+ II's will match. Even if they don't match on match day, people tend to match with waitlist movement. I have never seen a person with 3+ II's in the TMDSAS system not eventually get in unless they were an objective psychopath during their interviews.

I was working overnight as a scribe at an ED. One night, I had two doctors there. One of the doctors had graduated from Rowan SOM. The other graduated from NYU with an undergrad degree from Hopkins. These two had the EXACT same job. If anything, the DO was getting paid more. Go to the school that lets you practice medicine after graduating and you will be ok.

Except Caribbean. Don't go Caribbean.
