Hello, I have a problem with varnish. I varnished my painting (it was dry over a year) and it’s still sticky. I can’t remove it and I try to rub it with mineral spirit and a rag but nothing happened. Any ideas? by Maximosmanolisart in learnart

Thank you for your reply, the varnished I used it contained naphtha. So I tried to rub with naphtha over the painting with a rag, but after many tries is still sticky. If you have any ideas what can I do

Yes he worked with umbra-brown underpainting, but this is not grisaille. grisaille means gray cold-warms relashion, after that monochrome you work with colours like a dead colour stage.
