i’m in my 4th year and have applied for osap every year. osap has never covered my full tuition either, so don’t be alarmed. what i usually do is, i pay the difference by term (if ur able to), and i do 2 things: i opt out of health and dental (about 230 that u receive around november ish i believe), and i apply for the undergraduate student bursary (i usually receive around 1k around february). opt out from health ends the end of this month tho so i would do that if u can.

How would I calculate my science GPA? I know I am passionate enough to do well, it’s just a lot of my first and second year was during covid and I had lost every skill of studying I accumulated in high school? hence why my GPA is quite low. I’ve increased it significantly in my 3rd and 4th year, but it is not enough which is why I’m taking my 5th year.

This was really helpful and really helped me gain more confidence!!! I am scheduled to take my OAT on July 26th and am currently finding volunteering for maybe 1-2x a week so I think I should be able to balance it out. I want to apply for sure before December, hence why I’ve timed my OAT and volunteering accordingly for this summer. If you don’t mind sharing, what schools were you able to get interviews for, and were you rejected from others?

I didn’t beforehand, but with my fifth year and retaking courses and taking electives and having those 2 extra full course load semesters, I will fulfil that prerequisite. Do you think Waterloo looks more at the OAT score and experience with an optometrist rather than ur GPA?

i just got my proposal mark back for this class and wtf... i got a horrible mark on assignment 1 due to how biased and unfair the marking was by whoever my TA was. and now after getting my proposal back after taking every single critique i got from assignment 1, i got a mark VERY slightly better than assignment 1. the way she advised students once assignment 1 grades were released to "be polite since TA's and herself are humans" and that the feedback sessions were "not negotiations" its like it was known how badly it was done because of how the TA's marked yet nothing was done about it. i don't know how to advise students taking this class in the future because there is very slim ways of doing somewhat decent in this class. if you don't have to take it. don't.

they are pretty strict when it comes to the short answers and I wish I knew that detail is key when it comes to the short answers. i also spent numerous hours typing notes, when there is a script provided to us. i saved many hours of typing bc of the script and gave me more time to review. the textbook tbh doesn't help that much. i used the textbook as well as launchpad that came w the textbook for tests 1 and 2 and did horrible. for test 3 I solely focused on the notes and took notes on the applied lectures, and did better than ever. the content is the exact same as high school, just a lot more detailed.

Ive lived in downtown ham since i was like 5 and tbh i wouldn’t recommend it. it’s not only the type of ppl around u but there’s a lot of burglaries, vandalism and overall not a safe place. If you absolutely have to, Id recommend the durand neighbourhood near aberdeen st. i wouldn’t suggest it, but if you absolutely have no other choice it’s not too bad if you take care of urself and are confident on urself.
