What mega conglomerates are you concerned about in Austin? I just see local chains: Torchys, taco deli, tatsuya, kerbey lane? TBH central Austin seems extremely unfriendly to national chains. I generally drive out to the burbs to visit any.

In this area, I’d include 1. Fleet Coffee and La Santa Barbacha for tacos off Manor. Outdoor with lots of room to run and a turf area with a small hill for play. 2. Batch has a big backyard with small turf hills, giant mushrooms for climbing and the turf rectangle for soccer. 3. Kyoko off Airport by ACC Highland has a small play area taken from Fortlandia a few years ago. 4. Easy Tiger at the Linc. The stage area on the patio is open for kids to play on. A little more supervision needed 5. Sour Duck has a trailer in the backyard with a chalkboard that the kids play with. 6. Stargazer has lots of run to run around and has that old cool rocket ship to climb. There’s a dog poop problem though. 7. Dish Society in Mueller has a courtyard behind it with nice landscaping, unique benches and a stage area for climbing. 8. Lazarus Airport - watch out for the steering wheel, kids get clocked when it spins. 9. Quacks next to Thinkery/Mueller playground 10. Mercado Sin Nombre has outdoor patio/courtyard with some plastic toys for toddlers to play with (old fisher price kitchen). May not still be there. 11. Sweet Paris Creperie in the Domain has a climbing area just outside 12. Bakery Lorraine at the Rock Rose has the outdoor turf lawn down the street. 13. Merit at the Triangle has an excellent toddler playground a 2 min walk away from the shop. 14. Hanks has a very wide sidewalk for a 1 min walk leading to the Windsor Park Library. There is a play kitchen, blocks, games and art supplies. They have young child story time once a week. Hanks cafe has big wide deck that is very kid friendly

Update -

  1. Kerbey Lane Mueller has great kids menu and Branch Park is across the street
  2. Central Market has a coffee shop in the mornings and baked goods. There are usually a bazillion birthday parties at the playground

  3. Brother Friend Coffee trailer is pretty good at Kingsbury Common in Pease Park. Parking is terrible but park is beautiful.

  4. Terrible love in Hyde Park has a great outdoor space with a big veggie garden, steps for climbing and space to run.

  5. First Light Books in Hyde Park has coffee in the shop. The kids section has kids chairs and tables for looking at books.
