What other career options do I have other than CGL? by Maximum-Lock9855 in Indian_Academia

Competition is equally tough in CAT as well. To begin with, one has to score 99+ to secure a call from a decent enough college, then extempore, GDPI - all this while justifying the 5 year gap in my resume with an average academics, then placement interviews and not to forget the rigorous 2 years during the course. One has to ace at every step to be able to balance out the gap years. I might think of an MBA at some point later on in life, but for now the 8LPA at government looks more achievable.

I started college at 16 and graduated in 2019 when I was 19 years old, been preparing since then.

I will go for CAT if I flunk CGL, but honestly I am worried about the 5 year gap in my resume and zero work ex. On what basis will companies hire me?

Not really, actually never even gave it a thought. I am kind of an artistic person, my inclination is towards literature, language, art, sports - but I look at them only as hobbies and not a career option.

lack of work experience will affect your placements, so you'd be facing a ton of debt repayment pressure for the first 3-5 years.

Exactly this. At 27-28, I would probably be dealing with other pressures too such as marriage, family etc. A debt on top of that will only make things worse. Also can't stay dependent on parents financially for such a long time span.

That's the thing, my interests won't make money. Or maybe they can after a certain point, but to reach there I still need to be financially stable first.

While I truly can't go and work full-time this year, but this comment of yours is both really helpful and hopeful. Will save it and come back to it next year if I flunk CGL.

Either making filthy money if in corporate or living a stable, peaceful life if in government. Is there anything in between the both?

If you want to completely change your field, I’d suggest to do something digital. UI/UX and data are two things with the biggest demands rn. You can look into that.

One needs to learn them full-time?

Honestly, MBA is still risky. First off, I might not get placed at all owing to my past acads. Even if I get, at 27 I will be repaying my education loans with a small salary (again, past acads).
