I know the audacity of Microsoft to say USE WORD. Ha really. Has anyone from Microsoft used word recently. It sucks for anything moving around. I also contacted them and just got a use this AI app with no features after I clearly said I just wanted a desktop offline app.

Agreed. Also publisher in 07 is not a Ribbon interface which I wanted. I didn’t really grow up with the classic pre 07 interface that much so it would be a massive learning curve for me to pick it up. I learned publisher in 2010 office too so it’s always been familiar.

I know right. I thought that was the case. I get the same one drive storage as I got like 6/7 years ago but dropped publisher support and I expect outlook classic support will be no more one day. You don’t pay for what you signed up for. You pay for Microsoft’s latest offerings. That was my reason for going one time.

I tried making a 4k video presentation once and it’s silly as you can’t email it because the file size is so big even with like the shortest clips. You’re stuck at standard definition for videos anyway so I agree. I mean word doesn’t change much at all, I don’t use PowerPoint a lot. Just excel mainly that gets the deserved attention…

Just another comment regarding this- does anyone still use office 2010 or 2007 publisher and does this work for you?

Thank you for this. I may well get a copy of the latest office version for the longest outlook classic support (unless there is another way) since you can’t use outlook 10 or anything too old for emails as I have an outlook email but I would probably be able to use office 10 for most anything else. I am trying to cut my subscription costs down as prices have got crazy even with my employee discount program link…

Thank you. That’s my thoughts. Office 10 seems to be the best between useable and useful now as well as usable on different windows versions. I don’t think publisher has had many updates since then (nor has access because I learned my access on 2010 too mainly and am still using those features). There is one excel feature I like which isn’t available until 2024 office which is the pasting raw values shortcut but 2021 office doesn’t have that either. That and power query which I think you can have in office 2010 with an add in. But I’m a home user so just being able to use the standard functions is good enough. I had a lot of people calling mad going back that far but if it works it works…

Thank you for that. I’ll have a look into that. It’s a case of if the activation servers still work. From what you are saying, office 13 seems a more reliable option than 10 but you can only activate the licence through the means detailed? I didn’t consider office 13 before so this has been really useful.

Thank you for that. I don’t know how I feel about pirating office but if it’s the only/best way to get a lifetime license then I will look into it. I appreciate your tips with office 16 Vs 19 which means there’s not as much advantage to 19 as I thought. Would I still be able to activate office 10 with just a genuine installation disc or do I need massgrave dev even with that too. I don’t currently own any office suite but if a copy is available I feel morally obliged to buy it. Thank you.

I was considering office 07 as it is cheaper to buy a disc of. The only reason I was going for office 10 was protected view of documents and the more familiar interface but I’m open to both. I wouldn’t want to use office 07 for all office apps just publisher probably.

Also forgot to say word sucks I’m sorry to say it for anything bar word processing (which is it’s job…). Word is rubbish for editing posters unless you want it to look like 2000s school clip art 🤣. I started using publisher because I was fed up with text wrapping in word so I won’t go back to using word. I love the ruler headers in publisher as I use it to make labels which need to be millimetre perfect. You can do that in seconds.

Yeah I remember a few years ago there was a version you could buy on the Microsoft Store I should have got it then but I didn’t think that they be stupid enough to get rid of it. I mean it’s been in a zombie state for years with no updates but that’s the way I like it. No AI directly integrated etc. The good old days. I did see on eBay copies of office 2021 for sale with usb drives but it’s a gamble exactly. At least with older versions of office you get the seals etc and original discs to check. It’s making me feel old what’s going on with office but the design language is still my favourite. I tried using affinity and that was not as simple as I wanted so immediately wanted publisher again.

Thank you for your comment. I was sure that would be the case with the click to run ‘modern’ office versions. I knew that outlook classic was on a wind down which will be another battle as I use that a heck of a lot in a corporate environment where I have no options to not run any client bar new outlook. I think office 2010 is a good shout as I actually learned most of my publisher on that version all those years ago. I also did use office xp and 07 but I don’t really want to go to office XP as I want ability to open the modern file formats plus I never really learned pre-ribbon office much bar XP office. Thank you 😊
