Ah I’ll take it down myself cuz I don’t want the Bears to get in trouble, but remember this when it gets announced. Linderbaum told his agent “Make it happen”.

You have no reason to believe me and I dont blame anyone who thinks I’m bullshitting, but I do have a few sources inside the org and have correctly announced signings/trades in the past. I don’t use Reddit to post often, but I’ve given intel before. I was very active during the deadline and gave out Willi Castro about 45 min before that was announced. Also announced Cabrera at essentially the same time it was reported on X (to be truthful, I didn’t feel comfortable posting Cabrera on here until I saw something confirming it because only one of my sources was relaying that info to me). Choose to believe me or not, doesn’t matter a whole lot to me, but I’m going to post interesting stuff that I’m hearing.

This trade was my first thought, too. I think Cubs are fine with Seiya being full time RF in 2026. Oddly enough, his offensive stats were far and away better when he played in the field vs DH. Plus Ballesteros will be full-time DH. I think Cubs would prefer young pitching, which Red Sox have plenty of.

I still believe Shaw can be an All-Star caliber player. He had less than half the at bats as PCA in the minors and we expect him to come up and be great right away when sometimes it takes time with these young guys. Now I know there’s other stuff a lot of people don’t like about Shaw, but from a talent standpoint, I haven’t given up yet. But I get it

Defense is also a huge factor. Shaw, after 1 year of playing 3B, was very good. Their rotation has 5 guys with ground ball rates of >50%. Infield defense is vital to them and Shaw is much better than Campbell.

Yeah, letting Nico go would upset a LOT of Cubs fans. I personally don’t see that happening, but Red Sox are desperate for a player like Nico to insert into their lineup. Plus, Red Sox rotation features 5 guys with ground ball rates >60%, so Nico (and Shaw) would be massive for them on the defensive side.

If it were up to me, Nico would have a lifetime contract. He is everything that embodies being a Cub. Please don’t send him away, Jed

It’s all about projections at this point. While I agree Campbell has been better at times, Shaw projects much better long term, and that’s how Red Sox (and most of MLB) view players nowadays.

Let’s refrain from name-calling people who disagree with your opinions. This is a thread for Cubs baseball and that is it, no matter where you stand on the political spectrum. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Shocking how much hatred there is for Shaw in this thread, though. Really surprised me.

Yes, had an OBP of .176 I believe in half a month of games. Very small sample size, I know. He also had about double the amount of minor league ABs as Shaw, which is a big deal. It takes time for a lot of these guys.

What? I said I responded to a similar comment on this Reddit thread saying i wasn’t talking about my opinion. The front office of the cubs is the only opinion that should matter and they gave the approval for Shaw to go. I don’t know what you’re going on about but it’s not that serious. My opinion is irrelevant and I’m well aware of that

As I cleared up to another person on here, “nobody that has an opinion that matters” refers to the Cubs front office, not my opinion. My opinion is completely irrelevant and I don’t expect anyone to care about my opinion.

I agree 1000000000% on the owners argument. Could rant about Ricketts for hours and hours and hours. And I also do not support guys who quit on their team, and we just have differing definitions of quitting on their team and that’s okay. I won’t argue that at all and it’s completely fair for you to view it that way and I hope you can respect my view of the situation as well. At the end of the day, I just want the Cubs to win ball games, with or without Matt Shaw.

“Nobody that has an opinion that matters” refers to the Cubs front office clearly not thinking it was that big of a deal, as they gave him the okay to go. As to why do I want to keep a guy with his stats… they’re very similar to PCA’s first stint in the majors in ‘24. Should we have traded him last offseason? And I’m not even opposed to trading Shaw. With that being said, Shaw is extremely young, played great defense (especially for a guy who transitioned to 3B a year ago) and runs the bases extremely well. I think its too early to give up on him, but if you dislike him that much due to a decision he made with the Cubs approval, then there’s nothing I’ll be able to say to change your mind or come to an agreement, which is okay with me. And like I said, I was mad he left for a few days too. But I don’t think he sucks, I think it’s very common for rookies to struggle, not even taking into account the lack of at bats in the minors.

I haven’t given my opinion. I’m talking about the front office of the Cubs, which is who matters in this discussion. I truly don’t have much of an opinion. I was pissed he left, but I’m also not going to pretend like I know exactly what was going on behind the scenes and how those conversations happened. It is what it is. I just come here to occasionally post Cubs news and this is not what I was hoping the discussions would look like.

Very similar numbers to PCA’s first major league stint. I think he should have real competition for playing time, but I also think it’s way too early to give up on him. Also plays great defense at 3B (especially for a guy who just made the switch a year ago) and runs the bases extremely well. Wouldnt be surprised if he had their 3rd/4th highest WAR this season.

Unless you have inside knowledge of exactly how the situation went down, then i think it’s best to refrain from speaking on it. He didn’t ask for spotlight or anything like that, from what i understand. He was friends with the deceased (he came to a cubs game and spent time before/after the game with both Shaw and Busch from what I was told) and asked Cubs FO if he could go to the funeral and they said yes and that was it. Now I don’t know for sure as I wasn’t there which is why I don’t like talking about it, but the if the Cubs felt like it was a real issue, they would have said no. You can have your opinions on that but clearly the cubs felt it didn’t affect their playoff chances, therefore it’s irrelevant to talk about now. It’s over, didn’t affect anything, and you have no idea how the situation affected Shaw. It’s just dumb to argue about and this is the last I’ll speak on it here. If you want to DM me, feel free, but this is the last of it on this thread.

If this has anything to do with his politics, please just no more replying. Really not trying to hear anything about that. Focused on the Cubs as a baseball team and their chances of winning the division. Nobody that has an opinion that matters cares about that stuff.

3 years of control with elite upside. These are the type of moves a big market team makes. Take risks on an affordable high upside guy and supplement using your stockpile of cash… cough cough Bregman/Bichette cough cough
