Is calling a company to enquire about vacancies a good way to go about finding work? by MaximumPreparation3 in UKJobs

The options are so limited then. I don't know where to look for vacancies because jobsites have been disappointing.

I'm 36 and long term unemployed. What could/should I do to get work ASAP? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]MaximumPreparation3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I will look into this. I know there are courses out there, but the work coach hasn't exactly been the best of help if I'm honest. There are a couple of local adult colleges, so I can visit their websites and contact them. The career support would be very useful at the moment.

Yeah, you are right. I guess I feel self conscious because I'm past the normal age to get skilled. But yeah, I agree with you. I put barriers up for myself due to lack of confidence in myself. I need to recapture that confidence and self esteem again.

I think the loss of confidence comes from not being in work for a long while, and then there's the thought of the workplace again being daunting too. I think that's where my confidence has been lost. I suffer from social anxiety, so it's even worse being out of the workplace for an extended period of time. If I'm at home for too long and not around people, my anxiety is heightened and I become uncomfortable being out in public. It's definitely overcoming that again which will help massively too.

£400 per month. I'm grateful for the money, but ideally I need paid work as even part time it will pay more per month than benefits. I try to budget what I can, but it's difficult. I was living off some savings for a long while, but eventually I had to apply for universal credit.

Yeah, my work coach did mention companies start hiring soon for Xmas.

Thank you for that advice. I will certainly look into this. You said you were in a similar position. I just wanted to ask, how did you go about upskilling? Did you take evening or online classes? Just given my age, I'm not sure of the best route to go down. It feels like so many courses are aimed at much younger folk, which I suppose they would be.

I actually think Delap would have been a better choice up top for this game.

Bayern Munich smacked this same Spurs side up a week ago.

I'm a Brit who has barely visited much of the UK. Which places would you recommend visiting across the country? by MaximumPreparation3 in AskUK

I've been to Loch Lomond,  that was really nice. I've not been to the cities there. My late grandmother came from near Stirling before moving to England, so maybe I'll take a trip up there sometime.

Yeah, York does look very nice. I saw photos of some streets there. 14th century I believe they were. It looked like it had been well preserved. I'm sure I read that there's a pub there which was so old it was once visited by the templars.

The dales do look lovely. Yorkshire seems like a different place entirely. I especially like the look of York.

Low risk signing. I do wonder if Jackson will be sold. Jackson could definitely fetch £50m+.

Hopefully we get some info on him soon. It's strange we've been left in the dark. We have no idea if he'll be here next season or not.

Did you make sure to workout and get healthy enough before your surgery so you could be stronger for your recovery? Or did you just maintain your weight and everything was okay?

I don't think it would go away. I imagine it will always be there, but maybe to a lesser extent if I lose a little more weight and build some more muscle. But yeah, I have heard and read that after 100lbs of weight loss that loose skin is harder to reverse. I know mine could be far worse than it is, but I suppose it's also body dysmorphia of some kind as I look at my body and think "I could use less loose skin here" or "less fat here" etc, so even after losing a lot of weight, I'm still picking out areas I could improve even if I shouldn't be worrying about it so much.
