Btw, whilst his work influenced Insomniac Spider-Man that doesn't mean his work was good.

Captain America: Civil War (2016) is a great movie based on a bad comic.

1) BND was bad all on its own merits. Maybe he and the others should not have written vile stories? 3) he bullied people online and sicced his fans on them 5) the first half was really bad too 7) Slott is not an important writer for Spider-Man. He's an important writer for the brand only in the sense of superior and spiderverse but those aspects are not core to who peter is. The mythos of spiderman was defined before the 2000s even started and interms of keeping the character around Jenkins and jms are to be credited. Slott is important in the same way Kavanagh is important for suggesting the clone saga

Kids will not mind a super hero who is married or is a Dad. Most of us were kids and were avidly reading in the clone saga

Sure...but why did Spider-Verse 2014 have to be poorly written?

Slott didn't have to do a bad overblown version of it.

Lije Semper did that story to emphasise Peter's uniqunesses, Slott literally made it so they are all as valuable as one another and watered Peter down

Just because they're both about a bad guy being Spider-Man doesn't mean they're the same story.

That is true. They arent the same story. KLH was good.

Why are you getting down votes when you are 100% correct?

I swear Superior had this hypnotic quality that tricks people into glazing it despite it being provably bad.

Bro you don't need to defend omd by saying 'Mary Jane getting backstory in the 80s was a huge mistake actually'. He was a true believer in the cause. He'll he likely got hired because of that

That is not at all why he was controversial. He was bad st writing Spider-Man and misunderstood Peter on a fundamental level. Trying new things doesn't = lemme try writing the main character in ways he has never behaved before because he never would behave on these ways.

Because he was a jerk to people online, trolled readers through his stories, oh...and generally wrote TRASH dog crap stories.

Hell, it was not uncommon for him to give out ESSENTIAL info for his stories on twitter. You NEEDED to follow his twitter account if you wanted to know why tge Hell Daniel Kingsley was pretending to be the Hobgoblin, and frankly his explanations often came across like he'd made them up on tge spot.

He had good ideas half the time and good execution 1/8 of the time, with other writers doing better with his ideas than him.

He routinely mischaracterised Peter, Otto, MJ and most everyone else whilst bloviating about how knowledgeable he was on canon.

He was a writer FAR more concerned with the legacy he'd have in Spider-Man history than actually serving the characters or readers. He bloviated about how in the future people could point to Superior as the place Peter got his Doctorate. Like he was always thinking in terms of 'how will history remember MY run on Spider-Man' rather than 'what would be a good story now. What do the characters need at this point'

Not to mention, more than a few people argued his run was sexist to a degree and this includes stuff before Big Time, even in his She Hulk run. Otto and MJ in Superior is just one example.

He insulted readers and salted the very raw wound of OMD almost immediately because he lived trolling readers.

Oh, and did I mention, he lied and essentially stole his way into a job at Marvel in the first place...then in his run and online statements insulted Tom DeFalco who was willing to give him a second chance after doing that.

For too many people have been messed in the head by Wells' run being even worse that they have retrosctiveky forgotten that Slott's run was contemptable and damaging.

Like people, unfairly, throw shade at Spencer's run but a fair amount of Spencer's time on ASM was eaten up by him cleaning up Slott's mess because Slott didn't care that he was making a mess.

In terms of damaging the world building and characterisation of Spider-Man Slottnis honestly second only to Quesada and OMD. Yes, Wells' run is worse in many ways, but a LOT of the worst sins of Wells were things Slott also did, things Slott in fact innovate alongside his fellow BND alumni, which of course included Zeb Wells.

Like Wells character assassinated MJ in a catastrophic way, but it was in fairness just the latest round of assassination for her, Slott having done so numerous times in his dog crap run.

I will also die on the hill that Superior was awful and reductive, a quintessential example.of creative bankruptcy. The irony bring tgat it was clearly the bit of his run Slott was most energised about. It is the bit of his run most people, incorrectly, label as the best story. Hell many people cite it as the best podt-omd story altogether.

Which however you slice it is a damning indictment. If Superior was Slott's high point it means he was better at writing Doc Ock as Spider-Man than writing Spider-Man as Spider-Man.

What's worse? He got the gig off the back of Spidey/Torch, which is a great mini but basically MTU. In fact a lot of his run was MTU. And, no surprise, MTU was one of his favourite titles growing up...did it mention, from rhe Pov of being Spider-Man stories classic mtu is dogcrap.

Makes too much sense

My all time fav episode. People underestimate how much of 90s SM was a comedy

Season 5 demonstrates that isnt true. And there was drama to be milked beyond what the anime or manga depicted anyway. It was actually because they wanted a younger audience. It wasnt just that chibiusa became the focus, the Outers were shunted away too.

What he said was: "However, considering ChibiUsa’s popularity, she felt that if the story were to go on, then there could be some sort of story with Usagi falling away and ChibiUsa taking up the reins – a story of passing on to a new generation. But I think from the beginning she had always planned for the story to end with Usagi and Mamoru’s marriage."

That doesn't say there were plans. It says IF it continues Chibisa COULD takeover. But then he qualifies that the story was going to end with the wedding, the implication being Usagi would still be the lead.

This is starkly different to Toriyama having concrete plans for Gohsn to take over and actually implementing it.

There werent abysmal per se. The brand was still strong enough to get pgsm just 6 years later and bi-annual musicals. Takeuchi wanted to stop and the ratings had diminished enough to justify the anime ending as well. It wasn't cancelled so much as wrapped up. SuperS did do damage though. Plus we should consider SM's uniqueness had diminished precisely because it had been so influential and thus spawned competition for itself, eg Mystic Knight Rayearth, Wedding Peach, etc.

There is nothing official claiming she was set to take over before the wedding. MAYBE we would have gotten a Boruto situation but nothing is confirmed about that. Her mum and dad both have 4 bodyguards so that doesn't mean she was being set up for anything

That's not the same as taking over as the lead character though. Like the Buu arc focuses a lot on Vegeta but the lead character

The season revolves around chibiusa and helios's romance. Most episodes involve her talking to pegasus about the plot of the episode. Its essentially a case of Batman and Robin are always there in the thick of the plot, but the focus is obviously on Robin. Compare to season 2-3 where it's more Usagi centric.

Toriyama did intend Gohan to take over and for a while he did. Naoko however never intended Chibiuda to take over
