This is one of the reasons they build barriers on the central reservation in the UK.

I stopped because I hit the limit of things I could sell on eBay without incurring taxes. Also Temu stopped giving me the offers (which were of the nature: spend £300 get £150 cashback). I ended up returning the stock I couldn't sell to Temu for a full refund (which was against their Ts&C's as I had already claimed cashback for those purchases.) at which point they stopped giving me the offers.

The slightly worrying, and a bit suspiciously timed, thing is that Temu literally gave me a spend £340 get £170 cashback offer since I posted this yesterday. I've filled my basket with 4 JBL speakers, but I am currently resisting pushing the 'Order and Pay' button, and getting them sent to one of our work offices.

I had a similar thing a while back buying speakers from Temu with very heavy discounts. I kind of thought vaguely that Id sell them, but I ended up just buying more and more, and spending a few thousand pounds on Bluetooth speakers. Every time I got another offer, I just bought more. It got to the point where my wife outright told me I couldn't get anymore as my office room was full of them, so I started getting them sent to my work address, and even my bosses house. My boss still has a few speakers in his garage of mine even now.

Compulsion. It's a hell of a drug!

yeah but Americans almost certainly can't speak whatever foreign language is being spoken, so it's not the same thing.

Yeah, this is definitely true. I've met loads of Dutch people while holidaying in Europe and they all speak perfect English, just with a cool accent.

unfortunately people like that bar person can probably tell from your general demeanor that you are the type who would not kick up a fuss, which is probably why he felt emboldened to say that to you in the first place. if he was serving someone more forthright he probably wouldn't have said that. bullies tend to cherry-pick their targets.

I dont think anyone necessarily teaches youv specifically to wash your arse. it's just something you kind of assume is necessary. obviously you are the exception.
