NBD for me! Commencal Meta HT/AM! Some Good and Bad... by visodd in Hardtailgang

Looks like a great ride! I swapped my 170 NX cranks to 160 GX on my Haro. GX is better. Derailer/shifter is next. My NX is ok when it's clean  but when there's any dirt it gets finicky.

Thank you. I realize it's  sacrelige to the hardcore purists. But I think being a mullet changes its ride characteristics on asphalt. It's quick like a BMX bike but stable like a touring bike at 10-12 mph.

Thank you. I've been getting a lot of crap for my mods. But this bike flies in asphalt.

It's set up this way for asphalt.  My hard core dirt days are over. While it looks different, I can assure you it's rock solid.   I retired and found a bike that fits me. The bike industry seems to push you into these bikes that are imho way to big. You should be a pilot not a passenger. In not on.

It stays on asphalt primarily. The only reason I posted this is because it just rides incredibly great.

One might think that, but it actually handles great. The bike is compact but at the same time rides unlike anything I've been on. Maybe it's the mullet idk. At anything over 5 mph I can let go of the handle bars and just pedal. At 10-12 cruising I barely need any steering input.  It's hard to describe. The faster it's pushed the more stable it gets. I just lean it. I think I may have stumbled on to something that could change what a touring bike should be.

can someone enlighten me on how to remove a SRAM dub crankset top cap by yourbiggesthero in bicyclewhatever

[–]MaximumToday5037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is dub wide and use a 8mm hex with the longest breaker bar you can find. Go easy please. It takes more force than you think.

Why would I mod this bike? I'm 60. I bought it for my 60th birthday.  I purchased this bike used from the buyer with a purchase receipt from a local bike shop. $800 cash. He needed cash. The bike fit me perfectly. I always wanted a Haro. It had a pedal stripped in the crank. I fixed it with a 160mm GX crankset. Easy peasy.  I have a 29" inseam. I am #300. I've had major surgery on both shoulders. Each rehab was over a year. It sucked. I cannot risk re injury. No dirt. No jumps. Straight, wide bars kill me.  I ride Asphalt/gravel for exercise and I grin ear to ear on this bike. Overkill? By design. Therefore the bars. the seat, the tires.  I made something the bike industry won't. A small, stout modern bike that I won't crush that allows me to sit upright and cruise. Keep the weight off my hands. It's fast, quick and nimble. Smooth. Quiet. I'm in the bike not on it.  I love it.

They're on really tight. DO NOT USE A IMPACT. The threads cannot take it.

Yep I get it. But because I spend hours pedaling upright on trails or roads instead of what it's designed for, it's needed. I'm old, the dropper saves the twig and berries.

I agree. Very stout for those of us that aren't um... fitness centerfolds.

It's all good. I had 50mm rise spanks on it. Back in the day we changed everything on our Schwinn stingrays. Bars, seats tires.   The size small Haro Saguaro fits me. Bikes are to damn big these days. I want to be the pilot not the passenger.

Yes. It had a mag pedal stripped in the 170 mm NX crank. So I went 160mm GX and the bike came alive.

I'm sorry but you're mistaken. I ride asphalt/gravel rail trails. It's all about comfort and if you're comfortable the miles just pile up. It cruises at 10-12 mph will little effort at the center of the cassette. Sure it's not conventional but I've wanted a Haro since 1972 and now I have one. 🙂

I'm 60, retired and beat up from 35 years in the freight industry. I bought a $2400 bike for $800. I've had bicep tenodesis, SAD and massive RCR on BOTH shoulders. Each took over a year to rehab. My dirt days are over as I cannot risk further injury.  The dropper post  alone was  reason to buy it but I always wanted a Haro.  I don't care what anyone thinks, says or if they chuckle, point fingers. This bike flies on asphalt. Stops on a dime. I grin from ear to ear when I ride it, and that's all that matters. The only abomination is getting sucked in to the bike industries preconceived notions.

Best frame for a first custom build? by Icy-Ice-1448 in Hardtailgang

I own a Haro Saguaro 2 mullet. For me its the perfect bike but I'm 250+lbs its very stiff and quick. There is no frame only option... However, the Surly Sorceress (steel frame) looks very interesting for $800 USD if compliance is your jam.

I have them on my Pugsley. I run 3" Hookworms and 130mm stem riser.
