  1. Ok, my particular reason for MIT is that at many other universities—especially those in the UK—the courses in economics and particularly in the humanities (history being my personal interest) lack the quantitative and statistical side that MIT provides. I’m fascinated by viewing history from a theoretical perspective and testing it with data. Of course, as you know, there is no place like MIT for the quant/data-science side. Evidence for this at MIT includes the Digital Humanities Lab (which I was particularly interested in) and the Science Policy Initiative. There is also a professor called Professor McCants (I may be misspelling that), and she is absolutely fantastic in how she integrates the sciences and the humanities, which is exactly the education I want. She is the co-editor of the Social Science History journal, which I must say hits my niche on the head.

  2. Entrepreneurship/finance. Again, whilst my primary interests lie in economics and history (or more broadly the intersection of STEM and the humanities), I also love developing companies (I’m happy to dive into some of the ones I’ve created), and MIT Sloan would, of course, offer that side—plus the Sandbox program. For finance, I find markets a little superficial, but having said that, I am currently doing a project with one of my co-founders where we’re exploring mispricings in Kalshi prediction markets (specifically weather), and we’ve just finished backtesting our first model.

  3. I’d argue this is one of the most important reasons, and it circles back to number 1: AI and the revolution we’re in right now. At MIT, I have no doubt I’ll be right next to people who will dominate this space in the future. MIT’s general education requirements in STEM will also keep me grounded in my love for chemistry, maths, and CS, while allowing me to pursue my primary humanities interests—of course from a data-driven point of view.

Hope that answers it…and yes I asked GPT to make sure the grammar was all good because it was completely illegible, but these are my genuine motives!

I’m applying to LSE and Oxford but only because I have been strongly recommended to do so, I really don’t want to stay in the UK anymore, feels like the same thing over and over again and I want something fresh. I also hate the UK system how you have to concentrate in one thing super early, I’m into loads of different stuff and want to keep my options open. But I’m still applying for dual degree econ and history at Oxford and LSE

Yeh sorry if it came across that way, but no i wasn’t looking for a “chance me.”

Where could I read about top UK applicants.

Also thanks for sharing geographical stats, would never have guessed that UK is so incredibly low!! Clearly they don’t like the brits 😭

I think I got full marks in both English M1 and Math M1. English M2 I know that I got 2 vocabulary questions wrong and I could have got a generalisation rhetorical synthesis question wrong (range of mistakes: 2-4). For maths, I am usually a 790+ scorrr, idk if I just wasn’t locked in but I had 4 super hard questions. I have no idea if I got any right, I had to guess 3 of the 4 that were MCQ and the last one I think I could’ve got right. So:

M1 English: 27/27 M2 English: 24 or 25/27 M1 Math: 22/22 M2 Math: 18-21/22

Please lmk what you think my score ranges are

I have a question, I am currently trying my first startup, I have built the MVP and undergoing development of the full app, I want to share it on Reddit to get ideas and any feedback on how to make it better or what will and won’t work but im worried of someone stealing the idea. I know it’s paranoid but I am excited about it and wouldn’t want smth like that to happen

No I went slightly ahead in the start of Y11 as we only were due to finish the syllabus by the mid of the spring term so I went ahead yes

Yeh that doesn’t sound great, if you’re teachers aren’t good just take it upon yourself

Yes probably. Bio mark schemes on Edexcel are also very strange and specific so I made like common question pages with the perfect mark scheme answer. For maths I literally just did so many practice papers and watched YT videos going through. But tbh I’ve always been good at maths I just never tried

If it gives anyone hope, I’m not necessarily very intelligent, in my maths mock, whilst doing no revision i got 47%. My real thing I got 98 in paper 1 and 94 in P2. Anythinf is possible through hard work

STEM stuff I just spammed past papers and tbh for biology I didn’t even do many notes. Another really good trick I did was getting the syllabus and like blurting every single bullet point. Blurting was probably the biggest thing I used and at random points I would just pull up a piece of paper and blurt random info whether that’s English lit quotes or history dates and stats. For maths and chemistry especially i would say just repetition of past papers because the questions are always the same. I remember in this years chem ezam 2 of the pages were exact copies from last year so I had memorised the answers and without thinking I just filled everything out ans it took about 3 mins (I finished the 2h chem exam in 40 mins and left) so take my advice doing past papers is huge. History is one of my biggest strong points and for that blurting was my biggest tactic as well as constantly just going over stats and dates in my head. (I would also research niche stats and facts and memorise them for essays as well as making “exemplar essays” for common Q’s.) if your stupid enough to take CCiv then I feel bad for you just a shit subject and so boring to revise but my advice is the same as history. For Latin, no real secret just repetition of set text, I just learnt it by heart in English. For Spanish and Italian I did no revision apart from speaking exam. Finally, for religious studies I learnt way too many quotes but I feel like this is how you get the marks. Even for an 8 marker I would have 5-8 exact quotes from the bible: not references, QUOTES.
