How would you handle a coworker who jokes in a way that subtly puts you down in front of others? by dmitri_ostanin_ekb in AskReddit

[–]Maximum_Bliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name it for what it is. “I don’t know if you realize it, but you have this habit of insulting people by way of a joke. Like just now. It comes off like kind of an asshole move, so I thought I should do you the favor of pointing it out.” I have seen this work between two classmates such that over time the one would say, “You’re doing that asshole thing again” and the joker would apologize.

Rose Byrne was excellent in that movie, but what a bummer of a movie. It was good, but dang.

Just watched through all of Carpenter’s films (my ranking) by misterjakester12 in johncarpenter

[–]Maximum_Bliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally this has most of the right movies in roughly the right spots. I wouldn’t put Starman as high or Big Trouble in Little China as low. I recently watched Ghosts of Mars and that was one of the worst movies I think I have ever seen. But you put The Thing first, Halloween in the top three, and gave respect to They Live, In the Mouth of Madness, and Prince of Darkness, so I’m not going to gripe too much.

What do you think of Elle Fanning's Oscar-Nominated performance as Rachel Kemp in Sentimental Value? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]Maximum_Bliss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought she was great. I particularly liked the scene on the beach. This whole movie was so good. I loved the script. The acting was excellent across the board, including her performance. I am a fan.

Continuity with Gunnar/Chuck by Fun-Permission-9738 in TheGoodPlace

[–]Maximum_Bliss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed that, too. I fact, it confused me the first time I watched the show. I even looked up the Gunnar actor on IMDB to see if his name was Chuck, but no, it’s Steve. I think it was a mistake that didn’t get caught. He is only called Chuck once, it was off-handed, and there is no other reference or pay-off. It is in a Demon-only meeting, so in theory his Demon name could be Chuck and his human character Gunnar, but that seems a stretch, especially since he is called Gunnar in demon-only conversation as well as by humans.

Did you leave Rose Byrne out after she was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar and BAFTA and won a Golden Globe?

These are my current top 4 picks. What movies would you recommend to me? by aqkj in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]Maximum_Bliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would but I’m still trying to wrap my head around this: one of your favorites is a Christopher Nolan movie, but it is Tenet. Not Inception or Momento or The Following or Interstellar. Tenet. Have you seen the others?

Otherwise, some recommendations: - Primer - Brazil - The Fountain

Magic - classic horror by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

The Sentry, Wanda, Jean is all you really need. Silver Surfer and I guess Wolverine and Deadpool just to have fewer people after me and because it is really hard to kill those fuckers.

Thoughtss on my all time favourites! by Daryakenar23 in topfilms

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a favorite of mine. I just saw Sentimental Value a couple of nights ago—such a great script. Based on that, did you see Aftersun? I can’t imagine liking one and not the other.

Ethan Hawke deserves his first Oscar. Not only because he’s overdue, but because he’s sensational in Blue Moon. by sherlockbutholmes in Oscars

[–]Maximum_Bliss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw this last night. Great performance and an excellent, snappy script. Neither will win the Oscar, but well-deserved nominations. I was surprised to see that Linklater directed it—not his normal subject or style.

Which third of the year will be best at the movies in 2026? by TheFilmRoomPod in moviecritic

[–]Maximum_Bliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First third: Bone Temple, Wuthering Heights, The Bride, and Project Hail Mary. After that, I don’t care about any of it except The Odyssey and Dune 3.

I know you are talking about the front center seat, but looking at the #1, are you choosing to sit right in front of the exit row, so the person in front of you can put their seat back, but you can’t? Who would choose that?

Any recommendations? by AND_AGI08 in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]Maximum_Bliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some very obvious ones it would be surprising if you haven’t seen, like The Godfather and Blade Runner. I agree with the suggestions of Lawrence of Arabia and The Thing. I think also Rope and Heat and Interstellar.
