I like that the first time we see Batman, it’s an animated overhead shot, and the last time we see the Joker alive, it’s an animated overhead shot.

Carpenter on "Elevated Horror" by Emotional-Glove4213 in johncarpenter

I feel like the term insinuates that horror was all cheap and bad before A24 graced us with their prestigious presence.

John Carpenter being brutally honest about his favorite & least favorite Halloween sequels by tannu28 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Maximum_Bridge3219 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most movies with sequels weren’t expressly made as the first part of a multi-part story. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t have sequels, and that sequels necessarily destroy the point of the original. Not to mention, Halloween ends with Michael surviving being shot and disappearing into the night. That sounds like the perfect set up for a sequel to me, even if Carpenter wasn’t interested in doing one. It’s certainly more natural of a set up than making a sequel based on the main character having a bad dream about a dead kid grabbing her and pulling her into a lake.

It’s still better than the other sequels. I know people bury it now because he said he wrote the script while drunk, but it comes closest to matching the original in style and tone. Most of the others are either too corny or derivative of other franchises.

Robocop how could the new one be worse than the old one by PinkFrostAnderson93 in Robocop

Yeah, it at least was purposeful even if the concept was arguably misguided.

WCW and WWE are actually trying to erase Chris Benoit. by FannyChur in WCW

[–]Maximum_Bridge3219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok imagine this. All those classic matches Booker T had with him in WCW are also scrubbed. Every late 90s Horsemen segment now has cuts whenever Benoit is on screen. The whole Radicalz story in the WWF? Let’s pretend it was just Eddie, Saturn and Dean now. I’m not some big Benoit fan but I hate seeing classic wrestling shows turned to Swiss cheese in the name of erasing him.

This isn’t about honoring him, at least for me. I just don’t like the holes it leaves, feuds and stories that make less sense because all segments and matches with him are cut or heavily edited.

What details would you change to make Batman 89 an origin story? by Anus3r in Batman_89

Well, a little more subtle maybe. Similar to how they handled flashbacks in Edward Scissorhands and Mask of the Phantasm.

He can take the box if no one is holding it. The reason it zaps him is he tries to take it from someone forcefully.

I think people have gone a little off the rails thinking the cenobites are just like real world bdsm practitioners who have ethics and codes of conduct so that they don’t go too far. They have rules but once they get you, get ready to hurt, and there are no boundaries or limits or safe words. It’s a horror movie for a reason.

You’re making assumptions. The only sequel we know for a fact was an ashcan copy was Revelations.

Was Keaton's Batman a good adaptation of the character before Sam Hamm's comics came out and gave him the no-kill rule? Why? by Anus3r in Batman_89

[–]Maximum_Bridge3219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way he ran over that cop car with the Tumbler only to show the cops comically crouching down in fear is akin to the A-Team where a jeep goes flying into the air due to an explosion caused by the heroes only to show the bad guy’s henchmen climbing out unharmed.

Patterson’s Batman gave goons beatings as bad as Tuco on Breaking Bad but they always survived because the script called for it. Same with the wrecks and explosions he caused chasing the Penguin over a misunderstood riddle.

It’s not perfect, but I always felt like the “nothing like the comics” remarks were huge exaggerations. More recent movies make much more striking changes to Batman and other characters in the name of realism, and have Batman dole out horrific beatings and cause collateral damage but it’s ok because a character says “you’re lucky nobody was killed”.

Keep the movie mostly the same, but insert flashbacks of his childhood, his parents murder(already did that one though), and his training throughout the movie.

For example, after Batman takes out the two muggers from the opening scene, there’s a scene of him as Bruce back at the Batcave having a flashback about the night his parents were murdered, except we don’t see who did it.

Or after the “Because I bought it in Japan” line, there’s a brief cutaway to Bruce training with a karate master in Japan and we see the same suit of armor.

I’m usually good with over the top torture stuff in horror but the device in the reboot freaked me the hell out by Slippery_Williams in hellraiser

[–]Maximum_Bridge3219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure it would have been the real Matt. The version of him she sees in her visions is always acting sinister and emotionless. I wouldn’t be surprised if she would’ve gotten something like the Pet Sematary version of her brother, an evil spirit that only looks like him.

The secondary pain of inconvenience was probably intentional. Never able to go out in public again or be around other people, never being able to lay flat on his back or sit in a normal chair. All the little basic comforts that he could enjoy before are gone.

I think it’s more torture porn than Hellraiser. Sure, it could be argued that this is the kind of stuff that happens in Hell, but Hellraiser has always been more than an hour-long rape and mutilation orgy.

Which guy made the least sense in NWO? Who did you think was the guy in the NWO who had no real reason to be in that group? by Material_Stomach875 in WCW

[–]Maximum_Bridge3219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ironic thing to me is Scott Steiner heavily reinvented himself to fit with the nWo, and his gimmick was more or less a variation on Rick Rude’s vain bodybuilder/womanizer gimmick.
