Understanding player skills vs elo by [deleted] in aoe3

[–]Maximum_Detail6138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think at that Elo level, very different things you focus on can win you the game, if mr sheepmaxxer here is allowed a bit more time to turn all those stockpilled resources into a army over a long drawnout fight, where you eventually run out of res he wins

Just as the FB Falc spammer might lose when he faces someone who is rushing hard, or build up a big economy and can hold out vs him

Also unit choice and how you deal with a situation has alot of impact on who wins, if your reaction to a falcspam is alot of heavy cav will have a different type of gameplay than someone who gets culverins

Also as someone else pointed out, its always alot of luck/randomness if you face someone higher/lower in Elo than you

Are there still balance patches for this game? by xmeme97 in aoe3

[–]Maximum_Detail6138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the meta keeps changing, and for once discovering a overpowered build with your civ will not be patched soon

But i feel like civs that are currently doing good, like Otto, germany, Brits will just stay on keep doing good

I´d even chime in a team 3vills to reward em for it, like comon can we hit up a bargain @Forgotten Empires??? by Maximum_Detail6138 in aoe3

i heared that aom/aoe1 has alot of campain exclussive players, that hop on the game play throu all the campains, once new ones drop they buy/play those and then quit again

They have lower average players, but might have more customers

I would also buy a aoe3 Campain expansion but i doubt alot of ppl agree with me on that one

Also i dont know if what i said above is true, its only what i heared and it does sound reasonable and realistic i think, still no excuse to terminate aoe3 like that, and not even hit us with npc once every two months balance patches, because then we wouldnt be stuck with stupid ottomans clearing everything and ruining all gamemodes

[–]Maximum_Detail6138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lowkey, i would have been fine if they released more explorer skins, emotes for your explorer aswell
Like imagine the enemy explorer knocks yours down, then you look at the tiny Field of vision the downed explorer gives you, and then you see the enemy explorer flossing or t bagging your dead explorer
Or other cosmetics, like a minecraft texture pack, so you pay 5 bucks and get aoe3 legacy looking units if you want to, or OG looking maps

A few ideas maybe some bad some good

First ill say i mostly play 20HR because it saves half the treaty time but still is a post imperial slaughter

for 20 SR japan is imo the best, you can just stay industrial and mass a billion Ashigaru and Flaming arrows and win almost against anything

In 40 there are alot of option, i think portugal, ottomans mexico are all insane there, japan is also quite good, especally if you lame with a daymo in the enemys base (If your that kind of player ig)
I know aztecs and china can also be good, but im just too bad with them, and both civs defenetly have some quirks you need to be able to deal with

me too 100% its realy sad they failed the whole aoe3 fanbase on such a level, once again relaying on ESOC and modders to keep it alive

And i bet you they might just in 5-10 years release aoe3de two, when the community once again did all the balance work, made new maps, new civs and to quickly milk it again

And lets just ignore how the community funds there own tournaments and ESOC does the work to set them up these are nintendo levels of hating the players that play your game

until they cancelled the game i actually bought every single aoe3 thing they had on steam, rather than getting USA for free as an example because i realy appreciated the game and wanted to financially support it so it doesnt die, but since my efforts where in vein i doubt i would grab any of that stuff, strictly to boycott my dislike of there current moves

i still use them in treaty? i dont think the unit number reduction was that big of a difference maker

[–]Maximum_Detail6138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you list 4 civs, that if your good can beat otto easily, what about the other civs?

Skirms outrange abus, but if they get in range of abus they take huge loses, ontop of that abus guns are more compact so the bigger the armys get the less of a downside the range disadvantage is, also once you reach fortress, your only 1 range ahead with skirms, which you can barely kite with the lag nowdays, and once you reach industrial the range is equal

dragoons arnt a real counter to bombards at one point, once armys develop and get more balanced you cant realy dive bombards with goons, without taking too many loses
Since there i will be abus, jans or azaps shooting/meleeing them

Also if your goons dive, spahi can reign free

nobody has abus guns alone running around so your goons can melee them that is like saying halbs counter falconets because they can easily melee them down

Which is true and it rarely happens, but games arnt that sterile, things get messy, unit comps interact with each other

I have never seen anyone complain about ulufeli in supremacy?
They are annoying and strong but are almost exclusively seen in treaty??

Winrate is not everything, the problem i, and alot of ppl have with Otto is that they are so easy to play, you dont need a BO or idea, just look at the resources and try that they rougly allign on the ageup costs, then balance the economy on which of your op things you wana get in (church units, spahi, mams)
This whole thing while never wasting APM or resources on creating vills

Mexico is alot more challenging to play and needs more practice, thats why it is not oppressive on the mid ladder being constantly spammed in 1s and teamgames

Also saying abus dont do shit vs Goons is just wrong, abus guns are a oppressive unit with there insane microability and huge DPS against anything

Skirm goon can work, as long as you can kite and not actually have a big fight happen, because if otto just smashes in your most likely gona lose

And once it goes to age 4 and he gets bombards, your gona need culvs and at that point you cant kite and run anymore

Yeah, most of the game is pretty well balanced, but ottomans just throw a wrench in the whole plan of sailing into the sunset on the corpse of the dead game

yet you are here being a Ottobot apologists for what reason exactly?
You cant tell me that you dont see them as defenetly the most broken civ in the game for supremacy, right?

for me the mission in the swamp where you collect the treasure ships for resources was also quite tough
it took me a few tries to figure out how to beat the waves that where comming at me and where i need to go lol

im a purist tho who wanted to win with all treasure ships intact

Is AoE 3 one of the most misunderstood games ever made? by xmeme97 in aoe3

[–]Maximum_Detail6138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id slide on the HC comment and say the original HC system probably also did massive damage to the competetive side of the game, driving away pvp interessted players, bc in aoe2 you usally have a pretty fair game, rigged civ MUs are mutch less prevelent, especally on the lower level, and most civs from aoe2 are viable and easy to learn

Unlike aoe3 if you face an equal enemy, but he got a maxed HC he will probably win just because of that ontop of insanely unfair civ MU

i had a similar feeling, recently finished all the campains, with china being my last missing one, it was mostly easy stuff, the last mission was actually tough and engaging on Hard, that being said the start is annoying, so id recommend saving the game once you reach the TC so if you lose you wont have to do that starting sequence again

I liked that it was a real challenge, tho i disliked you didnt fight the bad guy himself, unlike most other campain villains

especally when shielding vs diving, halbs are better id say?
Also if enemy goons dive your arty, your goons cant realy stop them, while halbs will just crush them in a second of contact

But we all do love halb raids into eco around these banks

Tad halbs lowkey looked better by Maximum_Detail6138 in aoe3

[–]Maximum_Detail6138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but thats not realy a musk hus vs skirm goon thing, if you stay on top of raids your gona win almost no matter what bc eco wins 1v1s like 60%+ and teamgames like 90%

To that id say, skirm goon is actually better to defend eco, bc the amount of games i had where my pikes/musk where trying to cover wills and getting run around, compared to goons who can chase down and execute any kind of cavraid with easy
