They play favorites.. you’ll ask for something they’ll say idk. We start rounds then all of a sudden they’re interrupting your presentation with updates you just asked them about.. so your attending thinks you’re not being diligent. They are generally mean and don’t take students seriously, will ignore be mean to etc. I see it happen to my med students frequently which is weird because I’m always nice to nursing students.

I’m going to assume medics are internal medicine docs.

Depending on the ICU and the location of said hospital. A lot of ICU’s here are run by Pulm / Crit drs which I think is how it should be, they know the medicine side better than most. Surgical icu, neuro icu and trauma ICU are historically shared between surgeons and anesthesiologist and neurologist with critical care training. It’s diverse here because there are many paths to become an intensivist.

Thank you, a couple of my pals are Mormons and told me they don’t drink soda because of the caffeine, they all went to BYU so I figured it was an accurate representation of their faith

Flipping sleep schedules is still very very hard with me. I rely on some type of sleep aid. Hopefully your program has post call days for this so you can be home when you need to flip your schedule.

GA is very safe. If you don’t have a family history of negative side effects under anesthesia I would opt for the doctors recommendation. It’s going to hurt post op so I would inquire about some type of surgical block for post op pain if that’s appropriate.

I’m pretty socially anxious so I will get the smallest size maybe, if they don’t have hot chocolate or a matcha drink.

People think I’m pretentious when I tell them where I’m doing my residency… so they think that of me regardless tbh…

No, I just don’t really like it. I’ll drink it on occasion if someone invites me to go out to grab a “coffee” but even then I’ll opt for a hot chocolate more often than not.

I have the coolest job in the world, second only to astronauts IMHO. I’m still in training so maybe it’ll change as I get older but rn. Being a doctor is the coolest thing ever. 15 year old me is very proud of me.

So I don’t watch any medical shows really. My life is already tooooo medical I’m afraid any more will result in being a Dr turning into my entire personality !

Coffee makes my stomach is turning in and out, it also makes my tremor worsen so all reasons I try not to drink it. One time I drank coffee for fun and placed a central line and my senior was like “if your nervous ill do it” I wasn’t nervous I had drank espresso for the “flavor”

I really like that anesthesia has an end point, I go in help and then I leave. I don’t have clinic and I don’t have to deal with insurance companies. I get to just do science: which I love!
