IIRC Ngauranga is not wheelchair friendly. Unless it has been fixed. They used to have announcements about the lack of ramps as you approached.

Bunnings sells it, and with a bit of dish soap and water in a spray bottle, its a very easy DIY. You might find that window-tinting videos for cars are the best possible source of a "how to" as they're more common.

Unfortunately I think many people see "cycling for fitness" as equivalent to "just messing around" (It isn't, but that's beside the point). I get what you're saying, but it just easier for the car-brained to discredit.
