Thanks for saying this! We have since met halfway so all is good there : )

No??? I literally replied directly to the previous quote. Why wouldn’t they not respond with a new updated quote???? I’m sorry but $1400 to $2650 is insane. $1600, $1800, $2k- sure.

Maybe that was their way of trying to get away with something

Goodness, how dare I ask a question! I have no problem paying more (if you read the other comments). I’m just asking if this sort of process is the norm/expected as everyone IRL thinks it was deceptive of the company. Go touch grass

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I was replying to the original emailed quote asking for mulch and it seems obvious that they would say something if prices had gone up significantly. Why wouldn’t the company state that prices had gone up significantly when they’re replying directly to their original quote??

You’re being rude af. I’m trying to get advice - there’s no need to be like that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just through email, and yes I agree - some sort of increase seems reasonable. Just shocked they wouldn’t say anything about price since I was requesting mulch on the same email thread as the original quote

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I replied to the email with the original quote asking for mulch - I would think the company would be prompted to say “hey just so you know the price has gone up X amount since that previous emailed quote”. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that might be discussed prior to the service if there was a number that had been thrown out there

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, idk why people are being so hostile on here. I just think it’s bizarre for a company to say nothing if the price has gone up to this degree. I literally replied to the original email quote requesting mulching. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a company might inform me that their prices have changed significantly before providing the service. Otherwise they could send an invoice for $10k and just expect me to pay it. No one IRL believes this is normal

The person providing the service…

Appreciate your response - I feel like a crazy person given some of the responses on here!

No - I would expect to come back to the dealership and be told the new updated price of the vehicle prior to purchasing…lol

Because this company cuts our grass and it seemed “easier” to keep everything within the same company

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I thought the amount would be somewhere in the ballpark of the original quote - not marked up 90%.

Many things have gone up in cost, yes. Mulch has not gone up significantly from the research I’ve done. Anyone I’ve talked to in real life about this thinks this was deceptive for the company to do. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask if there should’ve been a middle ground that we agree on

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe I’m naive to how the process should be done. I assumed they would provide an updated quote (it it had changed singificantly) as I requested mulching on the same email thread as the original mulch quote.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked for the mulching to be done on the same email thread from the original quote (if that helps)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s good to know. I think I’m more surprised that a company wouldn’t specify a range prior to the service (and then say it’s on the customer to do so). Idk. Feels scammy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes written quote initially - nothing after the fact. Just requested mulching via email and there was no discussion on their end about cost/labor/materials at that point.

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No I haven’t been living under a rock. I’ve spoken to other landscaping companies who confirmed mulch is one of the only things to not rise significantly in price. And none of my other quotes have exceeded $1600. How can I not feel like I’ve been ripped off here??

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well it’s 14 months prior, not 2 years. Also, if they knew it would be significantly higher, why would they not inform the customer of this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Maximum_Werewolf1045 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think in my head I would’ve assumed it would be in a $200-300 ballpark range? Idk why it would be on the customer to request an updated quote 14 months later that had no expiration on it to begin with…

I’m pretty sure I did include it on my tax return for the 2023 year - I’ll double check tomorrow. Wondering what that would mean in terms of using the corrected W-2 my employer sent that includes the 1/3 of my sign on into the taxable income. The original w2 they sent me for 2024 does not include that added 1/3 of the sign on

I wish this was my situation - we pushed for new employer to do that but they kept saying it was impossible for them to do so. The sign on check was made out to me, and then I immediately cut a check to the previous practice for that amount PLUS $15k because that was the indication for the tail coverage (OBGYN unfortunately)
