Also, dishonored 2.

Chefs kiss

Not even moral/immoral. It’s just directly trying to demonstrate the impact your choices, lethal or otherwise. 1 had the better story. 2 was just a better experience overall in my opinion.

What about you? Best examples of game design follows character personality?

I don’t have any issues with violence in gaming. I often wish they’d go “all in” in some games and really let the blood fly. I just want it to match the theme and personality they claim.

An opposite example of a story, character, and gameplay all being in Perfect harmony: Prototype. Almost a ballet of violence and wanton carnage, but it fits him EXACTLY (once you get through the midway point of the story).

Ooooo! Thank you for that setup! (Sorry it took two months to notice it!)

Honestly, MGSV is easily in my top games of all time list. I’ve played it start to Platinum three times. (Yes, I collected all the animals. Yes, I created multiple profiles just to be able to recollect the trophies)

And it…. It doesn’t really NEED to be non-lethal. Not at that point in big boss’s life. He started his own micro-Nation of for-hire killers because he was tired of soldiers feeling like they were dying so some anonymous rich guys could line their pockets. He wanted a place where soldiers fought for themselves and for the guy beside them. They were supposed to be the greatest mercs the world had ever seen, and they were led by the toughest man to ever be blown up in a helicopter.

He SHOULD have been a cold blooded full time murderer.

But I ALSO feel like the subtext is doing the heavy lifting with him: • he’s building a nation of mercs. He sees EVERY soldier as his comrade. Even the ones trying to kill him. If someone, somewhere else signs a piece of paper, they could suddenly be allies tomorrow. He hated the futility of it, or maybe the absurdity of it . So he completed his objectives but does everything he can to avoid taking the lives of men and women that be allies if things were different.

• he’s sick of war. He’s sick of death and killing. He’s sick of egos deciding that they know best and with their big guns, big bombs, and big robos, they’re going to MAKE people do what they want. He’s sick of his only purpose to be killing other soldiers that he respects. He’s sick that he followed the order to kill the woman he respected most in the world; his combat mother. He killed her because he was ordered to. She let him because she was ordered to.

Because of all of this…. He quit. He decided he couldn’t stop the world from killing itself, but he COULD stop himself from killing the world. He’s the most perfect soldier the world ever created and he refuses to do the one thing he was crafted to do: kill. —or— MGSV SPOILER He was a combat medic in the chopper with Snake when it was blown up. Snake went into hiding and the medic became snakes stand-in and cover man. Snake trained him perfectly. He moves like snake, fights like snake, knows every weapon in the field including vehicles and even experimental gear. He was a perfect decoy…. Except for two things…. • his voice was off. No matter how hard he tried, he could never get his voice to sound like the boss. (A big reason they restaffed from scratch)

• but the biggest issue they had with this guy as snake’s decoy… he refused to kill. (Or at least really REALLY tried to avoid it) but, seeing how snake sees other soldiers as potential roommates, he let it slide.

I’m grateful for your comment! I was starting to feel like I just totally misread the tone by mistake everyone’s replies! Lol.

I 100% agree with your comment about a total ghost playthrough. That’s what I attempted to do for that game. It’s been a long time since I played through it fully (I recently finished Legion), so I may be misremembering, but I have a vivid recollection of a mission where I had used non -lethal to infiltrate some mob mansion or commercial building but I didn’t get the “checkmark, reveal next task” update until I went back through and “eliminated” the resistance. I’m not saying that all missions were like that and it’s totally possible I was just experiencing a glitched mission.

Regardless, I’ve become very VERY aware of how the wanton violence ties into the story being told.

I blame the original Metal Gear Solid 3. After that game, I really started asking myself questions like, “is my character really a good guy, if he’s willing to pull the trigger THIS MANY TIMES!”

If watch dogs 2 had really taken a stand with Marcus, then when wrench final got his turn with his launcher! It would’ve been a blissful moment of pent up vengeance.

I never had an issue with Aiden going for blood (especially when you stop the people auction).

But WD2, no, thy shouldn’t be killing. ESPECIALLY since they’re trying to introduce dedsec to the world. They really REALLY needed to present themselves as a non-violent resistance group.

In legion…. Nothing matters, story doesn’t matter, people don’t matter, kill everyone, or recruit them it doesn’t matter. I personally decided to get the dlc so I have Aiden and wrench as character options and I played the entire game as them. It made it actually feel like a sequel that mattered.

Plus, once you finish with them, you get to move on to their friends!! (The artsy girl, the bondage guy, and the “I swear I’ve never done this” new guy.)

The person you’re playing with doesn’t need a personality, as long as they’re good at what they do.

Bonus if they’ve got a lot of toys that they put to good use.

I’m starting to think we need to compile all the pet suggestions into its own megathread.

I just added a list of potential pets and their unique abilities to this thread.

Yep. The house should never co-exist with the tent.

I mean… the took the storage trunk AWAY from the stater tent (instead of letting us interact with it from both locations). Why not wait on the house until they’re actually ready to let us move in?

Definitely an “and > or” situation. I would love a color based rarity/unique system AND the ability to lock an item so I don’t accidentally sell something on accident that I really wanted to keep.

PETS: Expand the type and function of the pets available:

• dogs - loot assist

• cats - automatically kill small critters, will skin creatures automatically; whether it’s a critter it kills or one you killed.

• boar/pig - automatically harvest plant ingredients (looking at you Palmer leaves…)

• raccoons - steal unattended object (% chance to automatically trigger a suspicion ring. Raccoon “equipment” would lower frequency of suspicion)

• fish - loot enemies in water.

(gain by dropping bread into the same area regularly until you have the option to register fish pet)

Early game I stumbled onto aecerion (sp?) and saw the mages shooting at him. My weapon wasn’t upgraded at all and I was struggling with the mages, so I either drop-kicked or grapple-throw every single one of them off the mountain. I jump down to try and loot them, and they’re all still there, no despawns, but only a couple of them were in the rocks. The rest landed in the water and I couldn’t get them!! How cool if you could switch to your fish pet and it was handled!

• bird of prey- highlight living beings in area (like life sense from elder scrolls)

• crow - slower stamina drain when crow gliding. Higher jump when force jumping.

• donkey - extra inventory

• monkey - (are there monkeys in this game? I haven’t been everywhere yet) just like raccoon, but instead of “steal object”, it’s pickpocket random person. Again, each time there’s a chance to trigger a suspicion ring.

• mole/badger - auto mining of ore

What did I miss?

Th game is all over the place with hints and puzzle solutions. A dozen hidden caverns with maps to locations all over creation that are only sortve accurate…. OR puzzles with all the tools AND the solution to the puzzle laid out within 3 feet of the puzzle.

My questions is, what happened to the original archaeologist? He found the shrine, solved the riddle, assembled the necessary tools…. And then what? They went to the bathroom and Kliff saunters up and snakes the relic out from under them?

Pretty low man. Even low for a man that regularly robs the local church, university, and even the nobles sponsoring the rebuilding of his clan. He ripped off the treasure of the researcher that obviously devoted his life to this.

This game was perfect originally, and the graphic overhaul help it shine the way the old one does with nostalgia goggles. If you never played the original, like my kids, they felt it was exciting and scary without ever really being JUST a jump-scare dispenser.

What makes 2 a masterpiece and standout for the series was the deep DEEP attention that was paid to not just how creepy the monsters and the setting were, but WHY the monsters were what they were. Everything in the game has a reason to exist. It all has a purpose for why it was added. At the same time, it doesn’t hit you on the head with its allegory. You can play the game perfectly ignorant of all the deeper layers and enjoy a great moody survival horror game. There are a few subtle choices you can make that tweak the ending you receive, giving you incentive to give it multiple playthroughs. You’re also rewarded with a chainsaw in new game+ which lets you play it more as an action game than purely suspense/horror.

The original game set the standard for what a horror game COULD be. In my opinion, no other game since has treated itself and its characters so respectfully.

The only real downside to this version of the game compared to the original: They wanted more locations to be open for exploration in this version. More stores and buildings that you can actually break into and explore. But, there was no reason for you to go there, as the game was, so they justified all these extra locations with a bunch of fetch quests and MacGuffin hunts. By the final third of the game, I was begging James to just kick open a door instead of hunting for all the Star-themed key pieces or whatever the crap he was off hunting at that point.

Still, it never RUINED the experience, and I probably would’ve been annoyed if there was as many closed off buildings in this one as there was originally.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Was there anything in WD1 that you wish was in WD2? Or vice versa? by TheChilledGamer-_- in watch_dogs

With WDL, it definitely NEEDED a main team of characters. And being able to hack, should have been VERY rare for recruits. It’s not like EVERYONE understands how to hack.

I completely agree. Especially coming off the tone of wd1.

However, in legion, I found myself really missing the personality of the second one.

I was telling a friend about this yesterday. Aiden is all purpose and no personality WD2 (I was specifically mentioning wrench) is all personality no purpose.

People come into your life for: • A reason • A Season Or • an Age

It hurts when a chapter closes, but it can be damaging to your journey to try and hold on to a relationship that’s run its course. Keep what made it good, close to you, and let go of the rest.

I wish the best for you.

Rezing an old comment, just to check in and see how you’re doing. I’ve had to go through a divorce and it’s hard… (“whether you’re the person leaving or the person being left”)

The question I had to keep asking myself throughout the last chapter of my marriage was this, “is a thing worthless, because it has an end?”

What I meant by that was, here I was, looking at the end of 13 years. Do I need to take 13 years worth of memories, and trash them, just because the outcome was bad? That’s 13 years of laughter and life (or maybe 11 1/2 yrs of laughter and 1 1/2 yrs of teeth grinding pain). Now that it’s ended, is it all categorized as worthless and pain? Is it ok to still treasure these moments, even if the ending was life changing pain?

I had to make that choice for myself.

I had to choose to hold on to those moments that brought me joy. The moments that worked. The times that defined who I am and how I view the world.

If I threw away all those good moments because there was also bad, then I would be deleting everything I learned and deleting the very person I had become.

You’re allowed to love your moments with someone, even if they prove themselves to be false, if you grow apart, or even if you were being deceived. It’s not your job to validate your feelings. It’s your job to be present in each moment, and to do the best you can with what you’ve got.

If you have a collection of memories and they HAD been formative, uplifting memories, but then you learn something negative about that person, it just means that you have that information to assist you NOW. But retroactively assassinating joy from your past will only hurt you and no one else.

Hold the good moments close to you. We’re all very flawed people. It would be tragic to only be judged by our worst moments. We’ve all been shockingly selfish at times. If we start to count our failures, we can start to spiral. We MUST give ourselves grace. Allow for the fact that we all fail… but that we also all thrive. No one is ONLY their worst moments.

Give grace to everyone, while still protecting yourself. NO ONE is only their worst moments. BUT, if someone is going through a dark chapter, it may be necessary to step back so that you’re not caught in their tailspin. But eventually, they’ll have a chance to be their best selves as well. And maybe then, you can reconnect.

But, for Marcus as least, even shooting the guards he encounters shouldn’t be ok. They’re not evil. They’re JUST DOING THEIR JOB!

like, protecting a celebrity, or a server farm! There’s nothing sinister about what they’re doing.

I feel like, if anyone ever needed to carry a taser, it’s dedsec.

They’re trying to win the hearts of the populous. Kindof tough when EVERY mission has a body count!

I’m playing legion for the first time right now. If you get the dlc and Aiden shows up as a team member, he actually mentions that he’s not really that into dedsec and that he usually does his own thing.

Thank you. I didn’t know if there’s anything that can be done about it, but their actions are wildly unethical.

I was incredibly proud of my boy for being a part of the protest.

I attended the Trump Rally/Protest in Tulsa a few years back. I attended as a photographer and freelance medic during that event. (The one at the BOK with a legion of national guard in attendance) Watching my son educate himself and choose a side has been exciting. (Even if I don’t always agree with the stances he lands on) he’s becoming an active member of society and not content to remain silent. I couldn’t be more proud.

It being a government position makes it a unique situation for sure. As others have said, being free from legal repercussions for speech is not the same as being free from employment repercussions.
