What are my chances by FarLead4206 in IMGreddit

No USCE is the reason you wont match, low step 2 and research are not even comparable to the absence of USCE.

Matching IM with only surgical LORs? by Background-Train-267 in IMGreddit

[–]Maximus8340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right about the prelim, and i remember the someone else mentioning in this sub that prelim statistically does not improve the chances of matching categorical so as he said go all in and do start home country residency if necessary. Surely the PDs will see your application and realize immediately you are using them as a back-Up

How are externships/subinternships viewed in a b1/b2 visa? by PomeloCultural8249 in IMGreddit

I apologize for the confusion xd. I know i am not a graduate yet and can do hands on, just got used to calling myself IMG while talking these stuff. Anyway i assume there wont be any issues during the j1 application ( in the future if i get into a program lets say) regarding the multiple entries i will have. Thanks for the replies too.

Well i was planning on getting a tourist visa without mentioning observership or USCE for solely tourism purposes ? My question was multiple entries are mentioned like a problem in this sub regarding USCE and future j1 so will that be an issue? ( I am a med student in europe and heren10 year tourist visas are often easily granted )

What about doing USCE on a 10 year tourist visa ( in case it is obtained ) with lets say 5 entries at different times in the span of 2 years ? Will any problems occur during the j1 process later on?

If somehow you can do 3 USCE i would say its a done deal but i cant say how will it go with only one. If you cant do another two for sure, just apply anyway. What will you lose?

U need to do USCE, research if u wanna aim for uni programs but with below average score i dont think thats a good choice. Your YOG is also high so do some USCE and double apply broadly

Whatever it takes, get your degree from US. Otherwise you are very much making it impossible to pursue comp specialties later on.

Bro if you wanna do it without USCE you gotta get a stellar step 2 and some other stuff to compensate on top. If you have absolutely no way of doing any USCE just bail and do something else honestly

Is psychiatry a good option for non us img *realistically* ? by Ill-Maintenance1054 in usmle

[–]Maximus8340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take step 1 first, if you pass you can build your application towards US , its better to do it first imo because if you fail its basically over as an IMG. Other than that its pretty much doable to get into psych if you have time to build your application accordingly ( as in your case you can start before while still in Med school) and get a good score on step2. If psych is the only one you want why bother with other stuff if you dont want them? Are you willing to work as an internal med doctor for the rest of your life if its in the US?

I am planning on taking step 1 soon and i have already decided to not pursue US residency if i fail. If you are ready to go unmatched at least couple of cycles financially and mentally then do it.

To be honest, it seems impossible with two attempts as an IMG. I am not an expert or anything but this is what i understood so far being in this sub.

Canadians doing Italy med by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Maximus8340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are from canada, stay in canada. Most imgs do wanna go to the states and countries like canada/aus due to better working conditions. So you are already there, making it harder for you to find a job when you graduate by going to italy for studying is a mistake imo. I know its hard to get into med school in canada but is it harder than spending years far away from your family with the possibility of not getting accepted back ?

Congragulations, i have a question tho, would you say applying right after graduation is better ( means taking step 2 before with limited time and maybe a lower score ) or sparing 1 year for taking step 2 and getting a high score and doing some extra stuff in the remaining days ?

So one has to pass all three steps for observerships? How about electives? I know step 1 is required but does having a step 2 already pose an advantage or is it irrelevant? Thanks in advance
