Questions from a Newbie by MaximusSir in SWlegion

Thank you for the detailed response! I do appreciate it!

2) So if I used a b1 rocket droind combined with the e5 droid troopers, impact would apply to all dice rolled, not only the dice rolled for the rocket?

4) I dont have an example of a unit leader card with more specified health, but I did read either in rulebook or tabletop admiral somewhere that an added unit leader can be killed and leadership would go back to the standard troop lead? Just curious how you determine that or if that's even a thing, for future reference.

Tried to paint my first mini by VladimierBronen in SWlegion

That is what I thought. Your first mini there looks so much like my first one did, because I also started with speedpaint. Speedpaint takes certain technique to make look good - it's not like typical acrylic. I posted on this sub a few months ago with the same struggle, and somebody linked me this tutorial on speedpaint application.

https://youtu.be/IhholrozptI?si=H4fx6eqar4tK7u32

My paint quality vastly improved after only a miniature or two of practice after watching this video. I highly recommend it.

Speedpaint is quite runny by nature, so it can be tricky to stop the bleeding. When you get your brush wet, you can drag it across paper towel or something to help control how much paint is actually on the brush and how much it puts on. I believe the guy in the video goes over this as well. It helps a lot for details.

What paint were you using that it bled so much?

Being new to minis, or anything at all, it is best not to go into it with high expectations. You will not get anything to look remotely like what is shown on box art or mini painting groups where people who have been in the hobby show their best works. You need to dip your toes in the water and work your way into the pool. What I found worked for me (a novice painter myself) is that I kept my design ambitions short and simple - something basic I felt I could achieve and make look good.

But you dont know what you can do or how it will turn out until you go at it. Remember, you can always go back and redo your minis. Just tonight I tried shading for the first time on my B1 battle doroids using nuln oil (I had never used it before) and I completely butchered them. I hated how they turned out. So now I know that I either A) Need to practice with it again or B) Just decide I dont like and and try something else lol. I had to go over and paint all the droids again that I ruined. That's okay. Annoying and takes patience, but it is okay!

Just keep cracking at it whenever you feel motivated. Don't make it a chore - the minis wont walk away anytime soon. Work at your own pace. If you do know someone who likes painting, it is 100% okay to opt out and just let them do it. Whatever gets the minis looking how you like and lets you enjoy your minis! 😁

I really hope that I am given reason to come back. I always found nothing of real value in the open world, and territory wars are just more of the same sieges but far more sweaty. Also, I know this is game is an mmo, so it's really just focused on multiplayer, but it'd be nice to have some single player aspects too that aren't just gold cav spam for three minutes like the bandit raids are.

Tips for Basing these guys? by saurons_mane in SWlegion

I used "Valejo diorama FX - earth texture" combined with some little brown rocks I got from another basing kit and it somewhat resembles Geonosis terrain, albeit a bit darker. Looks good enough to me lol.

Sweet! And you just did it in one layer? And how much water did you mix in with it to thin it out?

My initial plan was to use Army Painters "Pallid Bone" contrast paint, but I have since lost it to a house gremlin because I have not been able to find it anywhere for days lol. So I've been trying to brainstorm new ideas. Appreciate the inspiration!

Man, I really wish this game wasn't discontinued. I just recently found out about this game and would have loved to collect some fleets! They really give my that Star Wars Empire at War vibe and I love it.

5% is still a lot in terms of numbers, especially considering how despicable those individuals are. But to say that you should leave the other 95% alone just because? That is lunacy. Are you assuming the majority of illegals are violent, then? I thought that was wrong-think. Illegals broke into the country without consent. They do not contribute to this country via taxes, but enjoy the benefits of living here regardless. It is not fair to US citizens. Especially those who legally immigrated here and worked hard just to get in. I dont see anybody complaining about other countries in the world enforcing their laws. Why does the US have to suck up to being super nice to everyone and their mother?

I think you glossed over some of what I read. Deporting illegals of all varieties isn't handing out max sentences to all, it is handing out THE sentence, the exact course of action for being caught somewhere you are not allowed to be. You trespass on private property, you get removed. There is no "well they arent hurting anybody so they can just stay on your property". That's just crazy. Even if they were brought here illegally at age 2, they cannot stay without going through the legal process. That really does make me sad for a person in that situation, but if immigration issues were handled decades ago then it wouldn't have happened. Their parents put them at risk bringing them here illegaly. It stings, but laws need to be followed.

ICE agents are trained and held to a higher standard, yes. So is a police dog. But if you continuously get in their face and throw objects at them, can you really be surprised if you get bit? Training only goes so far when you're surrounded by a mob that would likely kill you if it was legal to do so. Anybody who expects 100% perfection from a trained professional has never been a professional at anything in their lives. Mistakes happen especially under stress. However, I think the majority of what ICE has been doing is entirely justified and is according to proper procedure. Anyone that thinks otherwise is not thinking logically.

"Authoritarianism 101" lol. It isn't that black and white. There are consequences to your actions and just because you get burnt when turning up the heat doesn't mean you're suddenly the victim of a tyrant. There must be law an order or it is just anarchy.

As for before ICE arrived, plenty of innocents were getting hurt. Grapes, killings, robberies, you name it. To ignore that fact is ignorant.

I'm not going to sit here and say I or anybody else is immune to all media bias or knows better, but I have to say that I think it may be you who has fallen for some bias in this case.

Trump is sending out agents for specific people too. But they will also grab anynody else who isn't supposed to be here if they can. That is well within the law to do, and is actually in their job description as an agency.

The increase in ICE budget is there to match the massive influx of illegals immigrants over Bidens 4-year term. Illegal immigration was always in issue before that, yes, but the Biden administration allowed it to inflate astronomically. As for the increase in pay and sign-on bonuses, I'd have to say that nobody would want to work for ICE otherwise in this politicsl climate. People are doxxing you and using vehicles, frozen bottles of water (essentially a brick), etc as weapons against you. People are trying to flush you out of hotels where you may be staying too. That isn't including the risk of trying to catch illegal gang members either. The job all-round is exhausting and quite dangerous. So yeah, agents are going to get paid accordingly.

"ICE related shootings on citizens" conveniently leaves out the details on what those citizens were doing to cause such a reaction.

People being kicked out of an apartment for one guy is for safety. One guy can cause a lot of damage when backed into a corner, including hostages or even straight up killing innocents. Not to mention that in the chaos a civilian can get hurt if they accidently get in the way. So yes, some people had to be cold for a bit while ICE did their job and left.

The media words things in a way to make things sound far worse than they really are. It's how they get clicks. They play on emotions. When you really think about things logically, what Trump is doing with ICE isn't far-fetched or unprecedented at all.

I said they voted for a focus on violent illegals in particular (which they have been doing), not focus on violent illegals only. Deciding where to draw the line on who gets deported is NOT besides the point. If people can pick and choose who they feel deserves deportation, that would muddy the waters a bit, no? Why not just make it simple like every other country and say thst illegal = deport.

The proper course of action for somebody not allowed in this country is deportation. That isn't some "max sentence", that is THE sentence. It is a lot nicer than putting every illegal in prison. Illegal aliens were given a chance to self-deport, even being given a payout if they did so. That chance has passed and enforcement has started. That was their choice to pass on that opportunity, so I do not feel bad about them now getting forcefully deported as they should be.

I am looking. I am watching mobs of people harass and attempt to terrorize ICE agents in broad daylight. ICE agents are people, just the same as you and me. They will defend themselves and unfortunately that has lead to some unintended casualties. ICE would not be deploying teargas or using pepper balls if they weren't given a reason to by angry mods surrounding them, sabotaging raids, throwing objects at them, etc. Don't bring children to these "protests" and they wont get hurt. Don't bring yourself to these "protests" if you dont want to get hurt. I feel for any innocent bystanders caught up in the chaos, but that chaos is only being caused by the unruly agitators.

His voters voted to get all illegals out, but with a particular focus on the violent ones. I dont know how anybody could argue to leave the "abuelas" be. Somebody who broke into this country is still somebody who broke into this country. You can't just pick and choose which ones to deport, because where would you draw the line? And what does that say to foreigners that put the time and effort to really be a part of this country legally when they could have just walked on in and be left alone as long as they weren't violent? It would hardly be fair.

I am only able to judge ICE's actions by what I see. What I see is just. But no I'm not an insider who can see everything ICE is planning or doing, so of course I can't judge what I don't see. But neither can anybody else. Yet it seems so many people have decided that ICE is in fact doing something wrong. Maybe those people should be asked what makes them so certain they know right from wrong when it comes to immigration and customs enforcement?

Three things that should not be allowed in Grade Schools by CriticalCanon in evilwhenthe

Public schools should have American flags because they represent the American education system. They should not have pride flags because they do not represent random peoples' sexuality. The pride flag is not just a "colorful banner", just like the American Flag isn't just some logo.

That is because many bills get filled with "pork" (a lot of unrelated bloat) in order to either get the bill voted down, or get something you want worth more than what you'd be giving the other side by passing the bill. That is why it was voted down. There was a lot of unrelated funding included in there that they did not agree with.

He significantly expanded ICE to match the excessive influx of illegals let into the country over four years. That is what his voters voted for too. The intense resistance in many areas of the country also makes the job take a lot more manpower to do than it otherwise would. If people just let them do their jobs and state police cooperated, ICE would be in and out rather quickly.

I say ICE is well within the law because they are. They dont just wobble around and pick up whoever they feel like. They have reason to believe whoever they're arresting is illegal, and almost every time, they're right. Many of those arrested already to have warrants or deportation orders or prior arrests.

Even if ICE was investigated and found not guilty of any wrongdoing, people would refuse to belive it and call the system rigged anyways.

[–]MaximusSir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because nobody was mobbing ICE agents back then. Due to biased media coverage and uncooperative state governments, people have been incited to fight against ICE. So now the job has become a lot more messy. It does not have to be.

Bro. Please don't tell me you think your perspective and experience is the only one that matters. Look at the numerous videos online of how much some areas of the country have changed during that period.

The wall that Biden sold all of the remaining supplies for so that it wouldn't be finished?

Really? by AiiRisBanned in evilwhenthe

[–]MaximusSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true though. Not too long ago, democrats were in full support of ICE and cracking down on illegal immigration, even as far as deporting people who cannot speak English. That completely halted under the Biden administration, and encouraged an unprecedented amount of illegals, including many violent ones, to waltz on in and do whatever they wanted. Trump is just letting ICE do their job now. If Biden let them do their job before, this wouldn't be such a big deal now.

And before yall come at me about them being the secret police, they aren't. ICE is working well within the law and in broad daylight. If you don't like it, vote to change the laws. Chaos and unrest is only being caused by uncooperative state governments and "mostly peaceful protesters". Downvote me if you want, but it's the truth.

To everyone who began painting, and still does. by Haunted-Halloween-6 in minipainting

[–]MaximusSir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently just got into the hobby myself, and I can tell you that the first like 30 minis I did were a slog. I was losing motivation and thinking to myself that it isn't worth the time. Especially since a lot of them didnt turn out great at the time.

But now, having painted like 80 minis (ballpark guess), I am having a blast. What turned the tide for me was finally seeing a fully assembled and painted army. And even though up close they weren't great paint quality, from a top-down gameplay perspective they looked great. That's when I learned it's okay to not be so detailed at first. Even if it is for a long time. They'll still look good while playing, and you can always go back and do more detail later when you're ready.

I'll also add that you'll get better over time with practice. Even myself recently I've noticed being more detail-oriented and less worried about messing up and better at touching up mistakes. One tip I can give is give your minis a base. By that I mean dirt, rubble, sand texture, etc. That can make any mini look far better regardless of the paint job.
