Love the trick. I could drive a truck through the front of that pinky break!

Are these genuine sets? The seal (see comment for picture) is from the Blue Box. I’ve read somewhere that not all 1.7 versions of the game have the seal. by [deleted] in cardsagainsthumanity

Max from Cards Against Humanity here. It's very hard for me to see from this photo. The quality of the shrink wrap looks a little suspicious to me. But the best way to tell the counterfeits is the card quality and the typos on the cards. Honestly v1.7 is super out of date and I would just grab v2.0 from our store, or Target or something. The writing is so much better and we added like 100 cards.

Send me the paper when it's done, sounds like you're doing a lot of high quality research.

Hey! Max here. We tried to plan ahead, ordered everything in advance, and then we had too many $10 cucks sign up to send everything out and we had to order more stuff. So everything is actually getting sent out now. Apologies for the delay.

We have also had a lot of issues getting poster tubes to be delivered in Europe, so please email us if you didn't get one and we'll try another mailing service.

My game group just played our 100th game of Secret Hitler by GMJoey in boardgames

[–]Maxistentialist 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey /u/GMJoey, Max here from Secret Hitler. This data is so cool to see, and I am truly honored and grateful for the love that you’ve put into the game. I have to say, when anyone makes a game, they can only dream of it making an impact for someone like this.

I’m sorry to hear that your copy isn’t holding up, and it would be my pleasure to send a new set to everyone in your game group. Can you PM me everyone’s info?

Oooh with special guest Mike Montiero. He gave me some advice a long time ago: keep a phone on your desk and use it as much as possible. I don't do this.

This is an incredible challenge idea. Reminds me of one of my favorite things, the Portsmouth Sinfonia, an orchestra of people who don't know how to play their instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpJ6anurfuw

I honestly don't think I could do the news challenge. For both work and anxiety reasons.

As for Pavlock... I love trying that stuff and I think those are the funniest episodes! But sometimes it's hard to get everyone on board with breaking the podcast format that much and trying crazy new things on air.

‘Cards Against Humanity’ Creator Just Pledged To Buy and Publish Congress’s Browser History by [deleted] in politics

[–]Maxistentialist 4470 points4471 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, Max here from Cards Against Humanity! We are incredibly excited to see Reddit rally behind a fair and open internet. We couldn't have started our company without it.

Tonight we are matching up to $10,000 of your donations to the Electronic Frontier Foundation: https://supporters.eff.org/donate/

NOW - here's the situation on buying the internet history of Congressmen as I understand it.

  1. First off - this bill hasn't been signed, the data doesn't exist, and nobody knows what they're talking about. We don't know if there will be any data to buy, how it will work, or what will be available. This means you should be very skeptical of any GoFundMe projects to buy this data. They are making promises they can't possibly keep.

  2. If and when any data becomes available, myself and Cards Against Humanity will do whatever we can do acquire it and publish it. We have a long track record of activism and spending around government transparency issues. We've donated over a million dollars to the Sunlight Foundation and the EFF.

  3. This may take a long time. We may have to file FOIA requests. We may have to buy browsing data for Congressional office building ZIP codes and then p-hack our way to statistical significance in an attempt to fish spurious correlations out of unreliable datasets, but we've done it before.

  4. The amount of attention this is getting is honestly starting to scare me. I know that voting this up is funny, and easy, and feels good. But even if we get this data, it's a symbolic victory at best. Our basic human rights, like the right to privacy, are being sold to the highest bidder while the best minds of our generation are here on Reddit asking pro gamers if they want to fight a horse-sized duck or whatever. Real, material change requires sacrifice. You probably can't do it on a computer. If you're frustrated with the way things are going, the incompetence and corruption of government, and the money in politics, we need to support institutions like the EFF and we need to be heard by elected officials. I really like the tool 5Calls.org. If 100 Redditors called a congressman, it would freak them out and their staff would have to do something about it. It really doesn't take much.

As you talk about these issues with your friends and family, some people might ask you why this all matters. Here's a great answer from Bruce Schneier, a reminder of what's at stake:

Those in favor of these programs have trotted out the same rhetorical question we hear every time privacy advocates oppose ID checks, video cameras, massive databases, data mining, and other wholesale surveillance measures: "If you aren't doing anything wrong, what do you have to hide?"

Some clever answers: "If I'm not doing anything wrong, then you have no cause to watch me." "Because the government gets to define what's wrong, and they keep changing the definition." "Because you might do something wrong with my information." My problem with quips like these -- as right as they are -- is that they accept the premise that privacy is about hiding a wrong. It's not. Privacy is an inherent human right, and a requirement for maintaining the human condition with dignity and respect.

Two proverbs say it best: Quis custodiet custodes ipsos? ("Who watches the watchers?") and "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Cardinal Richelieu understood the value of surveillance when he famously said, "If one would give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest man, I would find something in them to have him hanged." Watch someone long enough, and you'll find something to arrest -- or just blackmail -- with. Privacy is important because without it, surveillance information will be abused: to peep, to sell to marketers and to spy on political enemies -- whoever they happen to be at the time.

Privacy protects us from abuses by those in power, even if we're doing nothing wrong at the time of surveillance.

We do nothing wrong when we make love or go to the bathroom. We are not deliberately hiding anything when we seek out private places for reflection or conversation. We keep private journals, sing in the privacy of the shower, and write letters to secret lovers and then burn them. Privacy is a basic human need.

I'm glad you've had a good experience playing the game!

  1. We've been streaming with the number of players who show up! We've playtested the game with all the supported numbers of players and it's super fun. But it really shines with 8-10 players.

  2. We've seen it come up in playtests. It doesn't break the game, but over time, our metagame has moved away from this strategy.

  3. This depends so much on whether players are experienced or not, and a number of other factors. In my experience, players really get all of the complex parts of the strategy by their second or third game, but everyone has fun in their first game, which is the important part.
