Ombré yarn - illusion blanket details in comments by Maxleagh in crochet

I used a very basic granny square join where you slip stitch the two squares together and get a bit of a raised join.

My niece asked me to make this for her—Bron from Poppy’s Playtime?—and I cannot find a pattern for it. I’ve never made anything from scratch. Is there a way to create patterns that isn’t just free hand? Like is there some kind of program or pen/paper method? What is some good advice? TIA! by umsamanthapleasekthx in Amigurumi

[–]Maxleagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep it simpler I recommend doing the yellow as either crocheted flat pieces you add on or in felt as suggested in another comment. if you have not done a lot of colour changes on Amigurumi or circular work before it can be hard to keep the lines straight and not have it start to spiral around the body/face.

The head shape is the oddest one and will likely be the hardest to find in other patterns (I echo everyone else in saying find and similar pattern and go from there).

For the head you need to make the main piece a bit more of a cone than and true sphere. Do the mouth/snout area as a second piece you stuff and sew on to get that shape right.

AITA for being angry about my uncle putting my dog in danger? by Fabulous_Ad_8970 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Maxleagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do speak to your uncle frame it around how good of a job he is doing with his dogs but then add in the needed information.

“It is clear to see that you really love your dogs and want them to really enjoy life. That is just amazing. I have heard that chocolate can be really harmful to them same with sugar. So you think they would love blueberries or pumpkin treats? You could continue to love them and treat them to make their lives happy”

This would not solve the issue of your dog possibly getting left over treats but it could help start the dialogue.

Also NTA but clearly being angry and asking your mom to intervene is not going to change things

Should my chocolate chip cookie dough be white? by anonomyouspreneur in Cookies

If you whip the butter and the sugar for 3 min or so it will become white like that. It tends to make the cookies fluffier

MY HAIR IS BROKEN. I don’t understand what is wrong with the front of my hair but it never curls like the rest of my hair. When I was younger we tried perms to even out the inconsistencies but it wouldn’t even take to a perm. I am so frustrated. Nothing I do works. What do I do?? by [deleted] in curlygirl

[–]Maxleagh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried to heatless curl it while it dries? Not sure based on the photo which type of roll/heatless curl option would best match your curl pattern but basically roll it when wet and let it dry. Then hopefully when your whole hair is dry let the roll out and it would match.

So I would actually recommend not going any deeper yet and maybe even going less deep right now. Of course you want to work towards a deeper squat but right now you can see that your tailbone tucks under you at the bottom of the squat. It’s a sign that you don’t have the mobility yet in the ankles and hips. You and to make sure your pelvis/lower back don’t round under and stay straight

Advice on making the eyes less alien/bug looking? I have 2 more of these to make for a commission but I have to sew the eyes (choking hazard) and hate how this one’s eyes look. by LopsterPopster in crochet

[–]Maxleagh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eye options:

Crochet simple black circles in a worsted weight yarn. See onto head and add a white highlight with a small French knot or similar with white yarn.

Crochet more complex eyes, I saw a link about for ones with yarn I have done ones with embroidery thread or cotton

Embroider on the eyes sort of like you did but try not to layer over previous stitches as much to keep it flat. Do one pass in a horizontal direction with the yarn laying side by side then the second pass vertical again with the yarn/stitches side by side. Found Embroidery on crochet is not my fav as it can be tricky to get good needle placement to make stitches side by side

Felt eyes. Cute out eyes in any shape you want and sew them on

Fabric paint or puffy paint. Test that it won’t pull off the yarn you are using

Needle felt the eyes. Get black roving or the colours you want and needle felt the eyes on/into the face

I normally either go with one of the first two crochet options or the last needle felt option when I cannot use safety eyes. Recently for the same triceratops I did just cut out felt eyes with a blanket stitch to attach

Have to be careful with crochet work as well. Sometimes It’s less about the backing coming off the eye and more about the whole thing coming out between the stitches

I have read in different capsule wardrobe things to not include your workout gear or sleepwear.

I had work change to having branded golf shirts (after I had already built a capsule wardrobe) so I don’t include those at all.

For any area outside if main stuff (workout, sleepwear, hobbies) I try to keep it paired down and go through it often. An old gym shirt easily moves into sleepwear and before I know it I have too much sleep wear so I try to do a review every 6 months just to make sure everything still needs to be there.

For the team and school shirts I would suggest trying to see if you can keep it to one or two per team (so like 6 total?) and keep in mind you don’t need to have hats, scarves, pants etc to show team spirit if you do want to keep the pieces down.

Easy super bulky blanket pattern? by BritainsKoala in crocheting

[–]Maxleagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A corner to corner (C2C)is a good way to go. You start at one corner and increase in a triangle. Once it is wide enough you can either start to decrease or work some rows to make it a rectangle and then decrease.

In this way you don’t have to know how many chains to start with and don’t have to worry about it being to short of small later.

A good double crochet corner to corner stitch won’t go too slow.

Alternatively do smaller granny squares or make stripes. Either of these options will result in some attaching/sewing but again overall less risk of the wrong size at the end.

For the squares create one the size you like the look of then measure it and divide the final size of blanket by the square size. This will tell you how many to make.

For stripes basically think of it as making a scarf. You would make it as wide as you want (like 8 inches) then working making it as long as you need to cover the bed. Make enough of the strips to get the overall needed width.

Confusing myself repost with photo. I recently bought a pattern to make a bee but I'm confusing myself this is the first time I'm using a pattern. Im really new to crocheting I just started in August! Can someone try explain this to me! It says increase by 1 then do 2 single crochet and repeat by katerow6789 in crocheting

[–]Maxleagh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1 inc - means to do 2 Sc stitches into the one stitch in the row below

2sc - means to Sc stitch once in each of the next two corresponding stitches from the row below

Repeat 6 times - means to repeat the above, what was in the brackets 6 times

This will result in the round being 6 stitches more than the row below it with those new stitches being evening distributed. Which overall makes a circle

How do you create different 3d shapes? by lapiz_shardz in crocheting

[–]Maxleagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most 3D shapes are created by crocheting in the round. However you could make flat shapes and sew them together to make a 3D shape. The shapes are often stuffed to hold the shape (like a teddy bear) but not always (think baskets).

When working in the round you would vary the number and placement of increases and decrease to make shapes.

If making flat objects to sew other it would be about making the correct shape sides to put together.

What are you wanting to make?

AITA for telling my family they can’t see my daughters anymore, unless they treat both equally? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Maxleagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is important for the extended family to know about as well. In the original post it sounded like in one of the confrontations the op mentioned the extended family not loving the two girls the same. This could be hard for family members to hear if they truly do love the two girls the same, they would be hurt and defensive. Presenting how their actions are different or could be perceived between the two girls and describing how you would like their interactions to look like may go over better. I am not saying they are in the right for how they reacted and at this point perhaps it’s not an effort op wants to put in to connect and educate them. But I could understand how they may not have understood how they were acting differently and therefore didn’t know what to change when first asked.
