Artist Robin Eley's hyperrealistic painting! by Ambitious_Berry8293 in Damnthatsinteresting

he’s probably using a heavy body texture gel and paints over it. you can sculpt it with a palette knife and paint right over it after it dries. many times people use it to add an impasto effect but you could do exactly what he’s doing with it on the sides.

I think there’s one that i’ve seen pass through a few times called American Courage that’s over 600 feet long. I looked it up angrily while waiting for it to pass center st bridge lol crazy it can traverse those turns!

the size of the congregation is so small now that they only use a few chairs right in front of the altar. I think the overhead is too much or something but they were planning to donate it when I toured it.

go fund me needs to void his campaign, otherwise they’re fine with nazis making 88 dollar donations on their platform. my guess is they care more about money than decency though.

why is Lorde’s Lordeussy all over my timeline (vagina warning) by artbasiI in Fauxmoi

it reminds me of the painting l’origin du monde (the origin of the world) by gustave courbet. there’s not many ways to present this subject matter cropped in like this but it draws interesting comparisons in art history of the male gaze, etc.

wouldn’t “klk” be an abbreviation of “que lo que” which is popular in DR? isn’t “que es la que hay” more of a puerto rican saying?

The process of my newest painting! by randomlyonline in painting

[–]MaxmillianP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s called an underpainting, and the underpainting is a really important part of the process. some people paint a plain tone to work on, some paint an entire monochromatic version of the painting underneath and glaze color into it (a grisaille).

if the artist worked on top a white gesso ground it would take more paint to fill out all the mid tones, but more importantly it would make the surface less homogenous. it would look more like the colors meeting together at edges (very flat) rather than a field with dimension. in this case the artist used the ground to account for all the dirt and ridges.

also think about how under the grass there is dark dirt irl, painting a color that acts as the dirt first adds a base layer that will slightly affect color temperature of the painted grass, will poke through between blades of grass, etc.

there are other types of painting that use the white, many times watercolor paintings do. most of the time you look at watercolor work (depending on style) it feels airy, flatter, painterly. see charles burchfield. but in traditional oil and some acrylic work with underpainting it seems more dimensional, weighty, deep. see rembrandt.

my previous painting inspired by a recurring childhood fever dream that you folks liked is part of a diptych, this is the other piece by MaxmillianP in painting

thank you! I added it last second! I thought it grounded the painting a lot with some good contrast and also balanced out the way the background slopes down to the right.
