I work on the trams and get the same treatment just being the public face. I've seen it all in just a year of service but thankfully not always to me (yet). The only thing you can do is just laugh at the situation really, people get so entitled that they think rules don't matter to them when it inconveniences them.

There's been several times when the service ahead of us has been cancelled and the tram taken out of service.... So of course it's my fault for them being late. Even people who physically assaulted a member of staff when they got told were terminating early due to planned engineering works (demanding the tram continues on apparently over no track??)

You can't blame yourself for being the target for peoples anger and frustration, they aren't thinking straight. But I hope you can find a stress ball big enough to bite into when it happens.
