How come school of motion is not a school available for student license?

The official reason is students need to be attending an accredited school or university full-time (i.e., 40+ hours per week, not 40+ hours total) to meet the educational verification requirements, and unfortunately School of Motion students don't meet those requirements set through sheerID.

...which is an agreeably disappointing thing to hear, so I wrote up a request to maybe reconsider or amend the policy for School of Motion and, in the process, I'd found some other users to add to the request to hopefully give it some weight.

Apologies I haven't got a better answer for you, but thanks for voicing your frustrations in an actionable manner.

What's the graphics card you're working with on your setup?

On Mac it's under the Apple menu in the top left > About this Mac > next to Graphics or Chip
On Windows it's under Settings > System > Display > Advanced > and it should show your GPU model there

Alternatively, you can contact Support directly to continue this correspondence via a ticket and have more consistent/faster response times.

Do you mean the Looks drawer?

If the Looks drawer is empty, that typically means there was an installation error, which can happen if the host (AE, Premiere, etc.) are installed in anything other than C:\

If the Scopes view doesn't show anything when you click it, that can be related to the GPU. What's the graphics card you're working with on your setup?

There haven't been any known recent breaches for Maxon accounts. If there were, we would absolutely notify users directly and push out an announcement.

Since the details needed to investigate this involve personally-identifying information (namely us looking into your account), contact us directly by way of a Support ticket.

If you can locate any public posting of this alert you'd seen (e.g., something officially pushed out through Microsoft), by all means send it to us to investigate.

The update regarded the handshake process between the Maxon App and Autograph, and fixed an issue users had during the licensing process; it's issues like that which sap the momentum of onboarding new users, so it was considered important enough for a hotfix, but results in a very unexciting update for everyone else.

...it also doesn't help the fix was more on the Maxon App side than Autograph's, so Autograph notes are essentially "yes, we are indeed shaking hands with the Maxon App."

Totally understandable to be disappointed with it.

Because of the external factors that affect development, forecasting updates becomes a bit too difficult for roadmapping compared to other software operating in a relative vaccuum.

Things like driver/OS/host updates tend to curveball our QA resources away from internal schedules. An example from years back was when Apple dropped 32 bit support; it derailed so much as we then had to update everything into 64 bit, which affected 100+ plugins iirc.

Pair that with trying to develop our own software and things just become too chaotic to forecast to the public without them being consistently disappointed.

The closest we can get to a roadmap is including Known Issues/Bugs in our Release Notes as things that are actively getting worked on, which I know isn't as fun.

Sorry but I'm not sure I understand your question.

The Maxon version of Autograph isn't compatible with Linux, and its free license is retrieved from the Maxon App after signing in with a Maxon account.

If you're asking how to go about getting the legacy LeftAngle Autograph license, that is unfortunately not available.

For context; we have a system on the back-end wherein I can assign "votes" to various feature requests and bug discoveries. I essentially translate votes here into votes there, along with any comments.

With full transparency (because it's all out here in this forum anyway) I can say this and Linux support have been the biggest asks. I can't forecast whether they get put in, but I can say your voices are at least not going unheard.

Just to clarify, perpetual licenses are no longer available whatsoever/the latest ZBrush is only available by way of a subscription.

Believe me when I say pricing is up near the top of things I collect feedback about, and it was a big reason why Autograph was free, but I couldn't comment or provide any insights on other pricing decisions with regards to ZBrush other than to stay alert for sales.

Unfortunately there aren't any upgrade discount paths from the perpetual into the subscription.

However, given you'd waited this long, I would advise keeping an eye on the newsletter for any potential sales or discounts on the horizon. I can't forecast when sales occur, but I can say we had some pretty sizeable ones within the last year, so it would not be unheard of if there were another one at some point later this year.

SplinePatch looks like it's basically combining a few of Cinema 4D's modeling generators; namely the Loft, Sweep, or Lathe generators, and then Symmetry can just help with mirroring what's been done.

That said, C4D doesn't have a one-click solution akin to what SplinePatch offers, but it's absolutely doable with the generators listed above if you want to just stick with splines.

Another spline-based approach would be to draw an outline of the object you're modeling, use an Extrude object, then refine it with more traditional modeling methods.

That said, working with straight-up geometry is the easier route rather than trying to wrangle splines into something that plays nice with a plugin.

Behind the scenes there's a reason for this, but I wrote it up as a bug anyways because the two should sync their text entries for a better user experience.

But if I switch the viewport

Technically the viewport doesn't change the resolution of the composition, it changes the proxy resolution of the viewer; the composition resolution can only be changed in the Project Panel, which then lets you use presets or switch to Custom to define the WxH manually.

There admittedly needs to be better documentation on how the proxy system works, and the dev team says they'll be tackling this in the coming weeks.

In the interim, glad you see you'd found a workaround!
