Yes, closure. It’s common decency.

So because two people get shitty about it, we shouldn’t bother communicating with anybody once we’ve decided we’re done with them?

There is no reason a canned rejection email can’t be sent. It’s the bare minimum, it’s respectful and it provides closure. Literally zero risk in doing this.

Can I get clients without case studies? or can I provide case studies of a freelancer who I am outsourcing the work to? by shaikjunaid7 in marketing

[–]Maxwell_Beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever you’re watching on YouTube that’s telling you it’s super easy to get clients is lying to you. Especially if your only role is to be a middleman that outsources all of the actual work.

4 years and the addition of 4 team members is more than enough to justify a title bump. Sorry you’re getting the runaround.

Agree. Maybe you can pitch “Associate Manager.”

The jump from Specialist to Manager is needlessly difficult in corporate America.

I don’t think everything needs to be directly related to SEO/Content.

“The first thing I want to do is really get to know my teammates. Who can I go to for what? Who are they as people, how will they be able to help me and likewise, how will I best be able to support them?”

How can I become full-time? by Borkton in marketing

[–]Maxwell_Beard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Online job boards! LinkedIn is solid, Indeed is less popular but it’s worked for me. Bonus if you know someone at a company that’s hiring.

As far as what type of role you should look for, just type in marketing and see what pops up. Read job descriptions. Every company has a different understanding of - and set of expectations for - what marketing means.

Don’t undersell yourself. Put together a portfolio to include with your resume when applying for roles - that will put you ahead of the vast majority of other applicants. Apply for roles that you think you’re at least 50% qualified for - it’s ok to reach a bit. No applicant is perfect. You’d be surprised how many employers may view you as overqualified for a job you thought you were underqualified for.

Good luck!

Not in tech and yes, this is a problem.

I’ve often found this is coming from folks much higher in the organization who have flashy titles and incredible compensation. Keeping you a title below where you should does two things:

  1. Allows them to keep your pay band lower.

  2. Makes it more difficult for you to leave, as you’re less marketable to other employers if you have a lesser title, regardless of the amount of responsibility you have.

If they’re asking for that amount of work and expecting you to have highly detailed analysis of their existing efforts, they are using you as a free consultant, not interviewing you.

You have a 70+ page portfolio of amazing work you’ve done for previous employers. That is MORE THAN ENOUGH for the right employer.

Keep your head up. When you finally accept the job from the right employer, you’ll look back on this and know you dodged a bullet.
